Ocean City, Maryland, was the place to be yesterday as Boardwalk Rock launched its inaugural day with sunshine, sand, and sounds that had the entire beach vibrating. The weather couldn’t have been better — warm, breezy, and drenched in sunlight, it set the perfect backdrop for a full day of rock nostalgia and fresh energy. Fans gathered from all over, beach towels and sunscreen in hand, for a relaxing day rocking out in the sand to the soundtrack of our youth — and, dare we say it, the bands sounded even better than they did when we were in high school.
Rob Zombie was a crowd favorite as a last minute add on to BWR 2025.
From the opening chord to the final encore, Day 1 was electric. The only complaint? We wanted more, more, more! But more on that in a minute…
Rob Zombie brought the monsters and the hair flips with his signature horrific flair, turning the boardwalk into a horror-rock playground. Trapt followed with an even more “Headstrong” performance than expected, their sound so powerful it could be heard from every corner of the festival grounds. Extreme cranked the energy to an all-time high, delivering a set that left no doubt about their name.
Extreme wowed with the mega energy using every inch of the stage!
Kat Von D stunned the crowd in a sleek, skin-tight black catsuit, proving she’s not just about the visuals — her vocals were powerful and haunting. Royale Lynn kicked off the day as Boardwalk Rock’s unofficial hype girl, getting the early crowd amped up and ready for what would become an unforgettable ride.
Looking “purr-fect” in her cat suit, Kat Von D started the day off on the Thunder Stage.
But the band that everyone is still talking about? None other than Bush. Gavin Rossdale looked like he stepped straight off the posters from our teenage bedroom walls, not having aged a day. And that voice? That accent? We almost forgot how swoon-worthy he was until he started chatting with the crowd. Generations of fans — from Gen X to Gen Z — were falling for him all over again. Gavin didn’t just stay on stage either; he jumped down into the crowd, holding hands, taking selfies, and singing directly to fans. The connection was electric, authentic, and unforgettable.
Gavin Rossdale, still the swoon worthy heartthrob of every female in the audience.
Halestorm brought the mega bass and some jaw-dropping guitar action, with Lzzy Hale’s fierce vocals echoing across the sand. Def Leppard’s set was a throwback dream — the crowd stretched as far as the eye could see, screaming every word like it was still the ’80s. And Mammoth WVH stunned audiences with raw talent and tight musicianship — it must be in the genes.
The bass from Halestorm vibrated throughout the entire inlet!
The only complaint from fans? We wanted more, more, more! But wait — we can have more! Because Day 2 kicks off today at 12:30 PM on the Bolt Stage, continuing the energy with none other than Tim Montana leading the charge.
So grab your sunscreen, rally your crew, and get ready to do it all over again — because Boardwalk Rock Day 2 is about to begin!
A new product has launched from of the oldest restaurant in Ocean City is called the Angler White.
Angler White is a Belgian style beer that complements the Angler Restaurant and Bar’s other beverage choices as well as bringing a light, summery tasting beer.
White Angler can
Belgian style beer often produces fruity and spicy flavors. According, to Brandy, the Bar Manager at the Angler who came up with the name, Angler White, she stated, “Think of this beer like a Blue Moon style beer.” Belgian beer is known for its lively carbonation, providing a refreshing and sometimes effervescent experience. Brandy added, “We wanted to have the Angler name on a beer can product, and EVO reached out to her and offered this Belgian style white beer that will be perfect as a summer drink.”
The Angler White is being produced for the Angler Restaurant by distinguished Eastern Shore brewer, Evolution Craft Brewing Company (EVO) of Salisbury, Maryland. EVO is noted for its top-rated beers and particularly for its beer pairing with food.
Inside the Angler’s Hook and Reel Liquor store
White Angler contains five percent (5%) alcohol and is available in twelve-ounce cans during restaurant seating meals as well as the two bars at the Angler Restaurant. If you wish to try it at home or on vacation, the Angler’s adjacent liquor store, called Hook & Reel Liquor, sells six packs of this beer to go. Angler White is only available at the Angler Restaurant located at 312 Talbot Street in downtown Ocean City, Maryland.

The Angler Restaurant started in 1939 and this year will be eighty-six years young. Its all-day menus specialize in seafood in a family friendly atmosphere. The restaurant has seating inside as well as on its ample patio area. Its two bars are situated along the Angler’s water side for excellent views of the Talbot Street marina and activity south of the Route 50 Bridge. After several gray days of relentless rain, Ocean City is finally basking in sunshine—and just in time for one of its biggest weekends of the year. Boardwalk Rock 2025 is in full swing, and with the skies clearing and the boardwalk buzzing, locals and visitors alike are ready to let loose to the sound of screaming guitars and soulful vocals.
Despite a sudden, torrential downpour around 3 p.m. on Friday that sent some scrambling for cover, the weather has since taken a turn for the better. The forecast for the rest of the weekend is picture-perfect: sunny skies, warm ocean breezes, and music echoing from the famous Ocean City boardwalk.
If you’re just getting into town, don’t worry—you can still pick up your event bracelet at the welcome tent on North Division Street, just off the boardwalk. Volunteers there are keeping the lines moving fast and the vibes high.
Sunday promises to be a standout day for the festival, with a strong lineup headlined by artists both classic and new. Katie from caught up with one of Sunday’s first performers, Tim Montana, who’s kicking things off on the Bolt Stage at 12:30 p.m to keep the energy going.
“It’s kind of wild,” Tim laughed. “Rock music is coming full circle.” What used to be your dad’s or your grandpa’s music—well, now the kids are playing it on their Spotify playlists.
Montana, who owns a bar back home in Big Sky Country, says his entire staff took the weekend off to watch him play at the beach. “I was like, ‘Who’s working the bar??’” he joked. “Guess we’ll just ask the Cisco delivery guy to jump behind the bar.”
It’s not just his crew that’s into the tour life. Tim says music is a way to bond with his kids, even when their tastes differ. “My high school daughter rolls her eyes at the big truck I drive with my logo on it—but when I put on some good rock music suddenly she’s into it,” he said. “Meanwhile, my middle school boys think the truck is the coolest thing ever.”
Montana’s experience is just one example of the intergenerational love of rock that’s pulsing through Ocean City this weekend. From boomers who grew up with the classics to Gen Z kids discovering the legends through viral videos, rock music is proving that it’s not just surviving—it’s thriving.
And while fans might only see the one performance on stage, many don’t realize the grind that artists endure to get there. Several performers are coming in hot from gigs in Daytona, Connecticut, and other cities just hours before their sets here in Ocean City.
“It’s a hard rock life,” Tim admitted, “but man, it’s worth every mile.”
With a beautiful weekend ahead and energy building by the minute, Boardwalk Rock 2025 is shaping up to be more than a music festival—it’s a celebration of heritage, heart, and the healing power of sunshine and sound.

Donors at kickoff Dogfish Head Headquarters drive will receive a free T-shirt
DELAWARE – The Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD) is kicking off its 5th Annual Blood for a Brew campaign on May 20th from 12:00 – 6:00 pm, at Dogfish Heads’ headquarters in Milton, DE. BBD is thrilled to once again be partnering with Delaware’s fantastic local breweries and coffee shops. Presenting donors will receive a free T-shirt.
Dogfish Head Milton Brewery
The annual Blood for a Brew campaign is critical to raise awareness for the need for blood and to encourage new blood donors to step up and save a life. The summer period from Memorial Day through Labor Day represents a challenging period for blood collection, with school breaks, family vacations and the holidays making donating less of a priority. Encouraging blood donations during this difficult summer period is essential to meeting the needs of patients in our community. BBD’s partnership with beloved local breweries and coffee shops helps to alleviate this annual shortfall.
Nineteen breweries and coffee shops are holding blood drives this summer, more than double the number of breweries that comprised the first Blood for a Brew tour in 2021. Our partners this year include:
Dogfish Head Brewery
Revelation Craft Brewing Company
Dewey Beer Company
Big Oyster Brewery
Mispillion River Brewing
Camp Adventureland
Crooked Hammock Brewery
Stewart’s Brewing Company
Two Stones Pub
5th Company Brewing
Volunteer Brewing Company
2SP Tap House
Liquid Alchemy
Twisted Irons Craft Brewing Company
Constitution Yards
Wilmington Brew Works
Ocean View Brewing Company
Burley Oak Brewing Company
Evolution Craft Brewing Co.
Warmer months bring an increase in accidents and trauma-related injuries. Known as “trauma season,” late spring and summer see a rise in emergency room visits and transfusion needs. At the same time, blood donations typically decline due to travel, school breaks, and holiday schedules, creating a perfect storm for shortages.
Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently lifted several blood donor eligibility restrictions. To view current eligibility guidelines, visit delmarvablood.org or call 1-888-8-BLOOD-8.
WHAT: Blood for a Brew Campaign Kickoff Event
WHEN: Tuesday May 20th from 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm
WHERE: Dogfish Head Milton Brewery, 6 Cannery Village Center, 6 Village Center Blvd, Milton, DE 19968
WHO: Blood Donors, Transfusion Recipients, and Blood Bank of Delmarva Representatives
WHY: It only takes one hour to donate, and a single donation can save multiple lives. Roughly one in seven hospital admissions require a blood transfusion. Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and many more.

Hyatt Place Ocean City is proud to announce an exciting new chapter in its story: the grand opening of a second building located just one block west of the main hotel on 16th Street. Since welcoming guests to its original oceanfront location in the fall of 2018, Hyatt Place Ocean City has become a beloved choice for families, business travelers, and beachgoers. Now, with a growing demand for extended stay accommodations and enhanced guest amenities, the hotel is expanding its footprint—and its offerings—on May 16, 2025.
The new building marks a significant enhancement to the guest experience, aligning with the needs of today’s modern travelers. Whether you’re staying for a weekend getaway or an extended vacation, this expansion offers more comfort, flexibility, and value—all while maintaining the exceptional service Hyatt Place is known for.
Thoughtfully Designed for Extended Stay Comfort
Hyatt Place on 17th street opened their new facility just west towards the bay in Spring 2025.
The new building introduces 63 city view rooms and studio suites, including two distinct room types. The city view Queens/King rooms offer a budget-friendly option ideal for solo travelers or couples. These rooms mirror the size of the existing rooms in the original building, ensuring a consistent level of comfort and functionality.
What truly sets the expansion apart, however, is the introduction of the City view Studio Queen Suites—a completely new room category for Hyatt Place Ocean City. At 460 square feet, these spacious suites feature two queen beds, a sleeper sofa, a larger TV, in-room microwave, and a fully equipped kitchenette. With 30 of these suites available—a rare offering in Ocean City—guests can enjoy the convenience of preparing meals in-room, making them ideal for families, groups, or travelers planning longer stays.
A spokesperson for the property shared, “It’s an exciting addition that will be added across the street from Hyatt Place Ocean City / Oceanfront, featuring new spacious studio suites and efficiencies combined with state-of-the-art amenities, available for booking May 16, 2025, and beyond.”
Modern Amenities to Match Modern Expectations
Many amenities are available for patrons including indoor heated pool, outdoor pool, business center, pool bar, and 24 hour fitness room.
From check-in to check-out, the new building was designed with comfort and convenience in mind. Guests will be welcomed by a brand-new front desk exclusively located in the new facility, ensuring a seamless arrival experience. The building will also feature a 24/7 lobby marketplace, a breakfast buffet service and dining area, and an outdoor heated pool, perfect for enjoying Ocean City’s sunny days.
Additional amenities include laundry facilities, a private balcony in select rooms, and a dedicated parking garage. Combined with its modern design and practical features, the new building is tailor-made for guests looking for both value and versatility.
Importantly, guests in the new building will also have full access to the amenities in the original hotel. These include the indoor heated pool, outdoor pool, SeaScape Pool Bar (open daily from 12 PM to 8 PM), lobby bar, coffee bar, 24-hour fitness room, business center, and a 1,500 sq. ft. meeting space—perfect for business retreats or small conferences.
Elevating the Guest Experience
Elevating the guest experience at Hyatt Place was the goal for the new building which sits offering a beautiful ocean view.
Since breaking ground in Winter 2023, the expansion project has been guided by one central goal: to elevate the overall guest experience by offering more room types and upgraded amenities designed for today’s traveler. The addition of the Cityview Studio Suites, in particular, is a strategic response to guest feedback and travel trends that prioritize flexibility and comfort.
Whether guests prefer a partial ocean view, high-floor ocean view, oceanfront room, or now a spacious city view studio suite, Hyatt Place Ocean City offers a versatile range of accommodations to meet every preference.
Each building is equipped with its own parking garage, and additional options such as street parking and an overflow lot ensure ample parking is always available.

STATUS OF PROJECTS IN DOWNTOWN OCEAN CITY – as of May 2025
Museum of Ocean City 2
Following up on our past articles on new development and renovation going on in downtown Ocean City, we wish to provide an update on other new projects underway. Several site plans have been approved over the past couple of years with that said, we will highlight those projects that have been completed, underway and projects that have not started yet.
As many know, an approved site plan does not necessarily mean a project will be built. Many other factors come into play, particularly with market conditions and financing feasibility. These highlighted projects will have a variety of uses; including three public projects. This update does not include single family residential but you will note that several of the projects include new seasonal housing!
Completed projects
104 Worcester Street
104 Worcester Street project
The small weekly rental building on the north side of Worcester Street, just west of S. Baltimore Avenue has been demolished, and a new three-story structure has been permitted and constructed. These two residential units, four bedrooms each, have an appearance of a townhouse building with first floor parking. It will provide thirty-nine (39) beds of seasonal housing for Dumser’s Dairyland employees; owners of the property. It is located adjacent to Dumser’s Dairyland office and its ice cream manufacturing facility. The building has now received its Certificate of Occupancy. In April 2025, the Ocean City Development Corporation (OCDC), a nonprofit organization charged with revitalizing downtown Ocean City, provided an award for “Excellent Downtown Development Project” to this project.
100 Talbot Street
Talbot Street new construction 2 units
This newly constructed project contains two buildings with six bedrooms each. It was completed in April 2025 and will be used for short term rentals. It is located at the northwest corner of S. Baltimore Avenue and Talbot Street. This project received an “Excellent Downtown Development Project” award from the OCDC at its April 2025 annual meeting.
101 16th Street
Hyatt West 16th Street
Just completed and opened in early May 2025 is the Hyatt West Hotel project located on the west side of Baltimore Avenue along 16th Street. This new hotel consists of sixty-three (63) hotel units; about fifty percent are Queen Studios that have a kitchen. It also has an outdoor pool and lounge space.
Guests of this hotel will have access to all of the amenities at the main hotel (Hyatt Place Ocean City/Oceanfront) located directly east, on the boardwalk. Such amenities include meeting space, indoor and outdoor pools, bars, interior veranda and more.
217 S. Baltimore Avenue
Museum of Ocean City 2
This new addition to the Ocean City Lifesaving Station Museum officially opened to the public on May 1, 2025. It is located at the northeast corner of S. Baltimore Avenue and Dorchester Street. This circa 1910 building which was the former Bank of Ocean City, was fully restored to its original look including attractive porches. The Bank donated this building to the Town of Ocean City in 2019. New local historical exhibits and artifacts have been installed in this new Museum of Ocean City which is open to the public.

400 S. Baltimore Avenue
OCPD substation building
This multiuse project, located on the southwest corner of S. Baltimore Avenue and Somerset Street, is being constructed by the Town of Ocean City for its new Ocean City Police Department facility. It is being referred to as OCPD Downtown Substation. The previous use was a public parking lot owned by the Town of Ocean City. This new facility will contain first-floor office and public lobby space for OCPD employees, as well as a garage storage and repair for the bicycle unit. With elevator access, the second floor will be for OCPD office, training, interview, and meeting space. The third floor will provide housing for sixteen (16) seasonal City employees.
OCPD concept rendering
The parking will be located in the rear of the building. The local nonprofit organization, OCDC, has partnered with the Town in acquiring grant funds and financing of this new facility. The OCDC will be responsible for managing the residential uses on the upper floor once completed.
The private buses that have historically used this Somerset Street location for drop off/pick up of its customers from area hotels and campgrounds will continue to utilize this location; including its bus shelter. Public restrooms will also be provided. This project is estimated to be completed for Summer 2025.
St. Louis Avenue and 3rd Street
Skate Bowl building 2
As part of the next and final stage of redevelopment at the popular Bayside Park at 3rd Street, is construction of new administrative space and restrooms adjacent to the OC Skate Bowl. The other improvements were previously completed for the 2024 summer season; including new playground equipment, inclusive playground with a communication board, music hut, basketball courts, tennis/pickleball courts, and renovated skate bowl improvements. The newly improved park also provides access to the bayside boardwalk; an ideal location for fishing and crabbing. Bonus, a fishing permit is not required in this area of town. This park was once known as the Downtown Recreation Complex.
This new building will contain public restrooms on the first floor, along with a “skate-in” skater lounge area, which will provide shade for park skaters. On the second floor there will be offices that are accessible by stairs and an elevator. An observation deck will also be accessible for parents and other interested onlookers. Its construction is expected to be completed for Summer 2025.
Construction underway
1101 Baltimore Avenue
1101 Baltimore Avenue
A four-unit residential project, located at the northwest corner of Baltimore Avenue and 11th Street, this three-story project will contain parking on the first floor and consistent with the upper downtown design standards. Construction of these units is expected to be completed in 2025.

It appears downtown Ocean City will once again have a service station with fuel pumps. This project is located just north of the Route 50 Bridge along the west side of Philadelphia Avenue. The fuel storage tanks have been installed. The final site plan also includes a canopy over the fuel pumps.

The proposed KYMA Luxury Resort Hotel is located in the vicinity of the Inlet; just south of Sunset Park. The plans include sixty-two (62) guest rooms, seven (7) guest suites, a restaurant, banquet room and VIP lounge. The project is planned to have on-site parking, as well as dedicated off-site parking to meet mandated requirements. The Town of Ocean City has permitted use of Sunset Park as a fire lane for this new project. In exchange, the owners have agreed to allow public access to the bayside walkway, on the west side of the parcel. To date, the project site has been fenced and a foundation plan has been approved.

Formerly known as the Phillips Beach Plaza, this building and adjacent Bo-Con Apartment building were demolished over this past winter; the site has been cleared. Plans were originally proposed as the site for a future Margaritaville branded project, with 265 hotel units, three (3) restaurants, convention space, and retail stores. However, this project is no longer being pursued.

In 2024, a revised site plan was approved for a more traditional hotel with less guest rooms and fewer amenities than the Margaritaville proposal included. Also, there may be other pending legal challenges to be resolved, before the project is permitted to move forward. Other than those for demolition, no other building permits have been issued for this project to date.

On the face of it, Memorial Day is something of an arbitrary summer kick-off. It’s a throwback to when most people worked 9-5 jobs and three-day weekends were something of a rarity. The last Monday in May, however, is the first three-day weekend of the year that is guaranteed to be temperate (and often pleasantly hot). It makes perfect sense that it should have established itself as the kickoff to the summer vacation season.
Today, as the three-day getaway is a critical part of many of our busy lives, Memorial Day Weekend in Ocean City holds a special place in the collective consciousness. It reminds us of the permanent good-off mode we occupied as kids, and gives us a reason to think seriously about how to recapture that attitude once again.
There are a million reasons to spend Memorial Weekend at the beach. Here are five:
1. The water is cool but not cold.
Samantha Snyder and Melissa Thornton riding the waves at the 39t Street Beach.
That first annual dip in the ocean is a really specific one. You hit the surf and are startled by a cold that makes you lose and catch your breath all at once. But by the time Memorial Day rolls around, the Ocean City beach has been toasting in the warm spring sun for a few weeks and 90 degree days are common, or at least more common than not. The sand will have been hot on your way down and, although the seabreeze provided a little relief, the cure for the hot is the cold, and vice-versa. When you head back to your blanket to take in the sun, the head still will be something you appreciate.
2. The traffic is thick, but not desperate and manic
There’s a whole other attitude in May than in July in Ocean City. First off, most people are coming just for the weekend rather than for a week or two. Vacation pressure – the phenomenon that makes some people desperate to have fun, hasn’t set in yet. Instead there is something of an optimism in even the line of cars along Route 50 on the last leg toward the beach. Parking is a little easier, as is navigating the streets, and the enthusiasm for the weekend ahead is the dominant motivator.
3. Ocean City is busy but not packed

More than pretty much any other summer-y weekend, Memorial Day weekend makes you feel as if you are part of a rising wave, and in a way you are. In the ramp up to schools closing and vacations starting, festivals and excursions and fireworks, Memorial Day weekend puts the beach front and center. Sure, there still are plenty of sponsored events but most of the people in town are there specifically to enjoy the tradition of being at the beach on Memorial Day.
4. The summer is not started, but still is anticipated.
Memorial Day weekend is kind of like a staid Spring Break. Families and couples treat themselves to a well-earned taste of the summer to come. Many if not most people who come to Ocean City for Memorial Day weekend treat it as a kind of vacation test drive, a way of whetting their vacation appetite. Restaurant waits are minimal, bars have plenty of people in them, but getting service still is a piece of cake. It is the best of the summer mixed with the perks of the off season.
Making sure they are in top physical condition all season is a point of pride for many on the OCBP.
5. The lifeguards are back!
If there’s any more iconic symbol of the beach than a member of the Ocean City Beach Patrol mounting the stand, I’d love to hear about it. After months of anticipation and of the recurrent call to keep your feet in the sand until they are in the stand, you can hit the waves while the beach patrol stands guard.
The Ocean City, Maryland Boardwalk is more than just a place to grab a bucket of fries or ride a Ferris wheel—it’s a living slice of East Coast history. Stretching nearly 2.5 miles along the Atlantic Ocean, this iconic wooden walkway has been welcoming beachgoers for over a century. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or the fiftieth, understanding the boardwalk’s roots gives even more meaning to every step.
A Simple Start in 1902
The Ocean City Boardwalk officially began in 1902, when local hotel owners built a wooden walkway for their guests to stroll along the beachfront without trudging through sand. At first, it only ran for a few blocks—and was rolled up and stored in the winter! But even in its earliest days, the boardwalk became a central hub of activity, drawing families and visitors with ocean views and salty breezes.
Rapid Growth in the Roaring Twenties
As Ocean City’s popularity soared in the 1920s, the boardwalk grew with it. New attractions, food stands, and shops lined the expanding path. Historic staples like Trimper’s Rides, which dates back to the late 19th century, became fixtures. The boardwalk wasn’t just a place to walk—it was a place to play, eat, and make memories.
Storms, Resilience, and Rebuilding

Over the years, powerful storms—including the infamous hurricane of 1933 and Hurricane Gloria in 1985—damaged large portions of the boardwalk. But each time, Ocean City rebuilt stronger and smarter, using better materials and extending the walkway farther north. Today’s boardwalk stretches from the Inlet at South 1st Street all the way to 27th Street.
A Blend of Old and New
Dolle’s has been in Ocean City since 1906 when Rudolph Dolle and Rudolph Dolle, Sr wanted a location to showcase their hand carved carousel.
Modern-day visitors enjoy the perfect mix of nostalgic charm and updated attractions. You’ll still find old-school treats like Thrasher’s Fries, Fisher’s Popcorn, and hand-dipped ice cream, alongside live music stages, street performers, and nightly events in the summer. Explore dozens of boardwalk restaurants offering everything from grab-and-go snacks to full oceanfront dining.
