A WEEK IN REVIEW OF OCEAN CITY PICTURES – Week 35th of 2025

Let’s look at several pictures taken in Ocean City, Maryland over this past week between August 23 and August 29th.

Here’s some pictures of this thirty fifth week of 2025 in Ocean City.

Once Erin passed offshore of Ocean City this past week, we received very nice weather.  However, for much of this past week visitors were not permitted to swim in the ocean due to strong rip currents.  All is fine now!

Special Events

Jeep Fest 2025

Although the first day (Thursday) was slightly impacted due to Erin, the balance of Jeep Fest went off nicely, especially the Beach Crawl each morning that took participants from the Inlet parking lot to 30th Street.  A great turn out of jeeps for this event.

Sunset Park Party Nights

This past Thursday brought the last of these free concerts for the 2025 summer season.  Over 300 people turned out to see the popular jam band, The Dunehounds close out this event.  This event was sponsored by the Ocean City Development Corporation and the Town of Ocean City.   The OC Recreation Booster volunteers sold beverages at these events with all proceeds going to youth programs in Ocean City.

Photo Friday Contest Winner August 28th 2025

This was the last week of our summer Photo Friday Contest, and what a week it was! For those who were here, the name “Erin” won’t be forgotten anytime soon. But as your photos prove, even when the weather doesn’t cooperate, a day in Ocean City is always better than a day at the office or school.

Despite the rough ocean and swimming restrictions, you all made the most of it. Your amazing photos show you building sandcastles, playing with dump trucks in puddles, and enjoying the Jeeps, local wildlife, sunrises, and sunsets. You captured the true spirit of Ocean City, which is all about playing and having fun with friends and family, no matter the conditions.

Thank you for sharing your memories with us. Our contest may be over for now, but we hope you’ll continue to capture and share your moments in Ocean City.

Here are some of this weeks photos from our Photo Friday contest.

This week’s randomly selected winner of 2 FREE passes to Nick’s Mini Golf is Chalese Jenelle for this great photo of someone with his toes in the sand, just like many of us had to do last week!  Congratulations Chalese!

Labor Day in Ocean City Md

Ocean City is a fantastic place to spend Labor Day Weekend and celebrate the end of summer. Summer-season businesses, rides, and activities are all still operating, and this year, it looks like the weather is going to be beautiful!

This might be your last chance to relax on the the beach this year, or watch the kids boogie board in the ocean. But there’s much more to do, and great reasons to stay in one of our hotels when you take advantage of their special deals available,  just for this weekend.

  • The beach still has lifeguards on duty this weekend, making it a great time to enjoy the warm ocean water and less-crowded shores. The restrictions put in place when Erin was around have now been lifted, so there are no restrictions on entering the water.
  • Sundaes in the Park with Fireworks: it’s the last Sundaes in the Park of the season this weekend and to celebrate KittybackClassic & Country Rock will be playing. Grab your chair or blanket and head to Northside Park from 7-9pm on Sunday for music, ice cream, and a spectacular fireworks show to end the evening.
  • Dining: Ocean City’s huge selection of restaurants and bars will be open all weekend with music and happy hour specials too. It’s also the perfect time to enjoy some fresh seafood or outside dining.
  • Fishing and Water Sports: You can take advantage of the still-warm weather for activities like boat rentals, fishing and  jet-skiing. Try Odyssea Watersports or Bayside Boat Rentals for boat rentals and jet skiing. Saltwater Adventures will take you fishing, providing all you need for a great family friendly fishing trip. Let someone else do the driving and consider taking a cruise around the bay over towards Assateague Island or up the ocean! The Angler, and Seacrets Cruises are two excellent options.
  • Have a game of Mini Golf! Nothing screams summer in Ocean City more than a game of mini golf, in fact, your visit should not be complete without at least one putt around a course. Try Nicks Golf or Old Pro Golf – you’re never too far from either!

Let’s look at several pictures taken in Ocean City, Maryland over this past week between August 16 and August 22th.

Here’s some pictures of this thirty fourth week of 2025 in Ocean City.

This week was a week of significant changes. Starting with the nice weather weekend of August 16th and 17th and then dealing with the impacts of offshore Hurricane Erin later in the week.  It’s always exciting being on the island that we call Ocean City and the Delmarva Peninsula.

As Hurricane Erin traveled through the Atlantic and stayed clear of Ocean City, its strong winds and shore surge were definitely felt though.  For safety, the Town’s Ocean were deemed not accessible for several days. The large waves and ocean water over the beach made for many scenic photographs.

Many jeep enthusiasts traveled to Ocean City to enjoy this event and particularly the “beach crawl” that allows registered jeep owners to travel on the beach from the Ocean City inlet to 30th Street.  Erin only affected Thursday, the first day of this event. There will be another jeep beach crawl held Sunday morning, too if you wish to check it out.  And the beach obstacle course, too, is located just north of the Ocean City pier.

Hurricane Erin Moves On, But Dangerous Rip Currents Remain in Ocean City, Maryland

0

Hurricane Erin may have moved away from the Delmarva coast, but her effects are still being felt along the shores of Ocean City. Although the skies have cleared, the sun is shining, and humidity levels have dropped, officials are warning that ocean conditions remain dangerous for swimmers heading into the weekend.

Exorbitant Amounts of Energy

Waves from Hurricane Erin crash into the Ocean City pier

Despite the picture-perfect beach day, Ocean City Beach Patrol (OCBP) Captain Butch Arbin urges visitors and residents to remain out of the water. “When hurricanes form, they pump a lot of energy into the ocean,” Arbin explained. “That energy doesn’t just disappear when the storm passes. Water is pushed toward shore, tides are higher than usual, and the surf becomes unpredictable and dangerous.”

Rip Currents

The most serious risks currently facing beachgoers include strong rip currents, higher-than-normal surf, and receding water levels — all signs of ongoing turbulence beneath the surface. According to the OCBP, these conditions are expected to persist through Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Public Safety

Rip currents can move faster than Olympic swimmers and are deadly for swimmers.

With summer winding down and schools starting back up, the city’s beach patrol is now operating with about 40% fewer lifeguards. The OCBP transitioning into off-season staffing levels. This reduction in personnel adds another layer of concern for public safety during a time when many visitors might underestimate the power of the ocean due to the calm weather above.

“Our motto has always been, ‘Keep your feet in the sand until there’s a lifeguard in the stand,’” said Captain Arbin. “That advice is more important now than ever. Don’t be fooled by sunny skies. The water may look inviting, but it can be deadly.”

As Ocean City enjoys the final weeks of summer, safety remains the top priority. Hurricane Erin may be gone, but her impact lingers in the waves — and the risks are very real.

Bai-Tee Bakery Opens on the Boardwalk at the Commander Hotel

A Sweet New Chapter from the Team Behind Spain Wine Bar

Ocean City has a brand-new culinary destination to buzz about: Bai-Tee Bakery, now open on the Boardwalk at the historic Commander Hotel. The latest creation from Peter Elias, the visionary restaurateur behind the popular Spain Wine Bar, Bai-Tee is far more than a bakery. It’s a dynamic experience that combines artisan desserts, deli-style favorites, a full bar, and one of the best ocean views in town.

For years, Peter has been known for elevating Ocean City’s dining scene with bold ideas, refined flavors, and unforgettable hospitality. With Bai-Tee, he brings that same fingerprint of excellence to a space designed to surprise and delight. Locals and visitors alike will quickly see that Bai-Tee is not your typical bakery—it’s a place to relax, gather, and savor Ocean City in style.

More Than a Bakery

elegance and deli style combine at Bai-Tee Bakery

Step inside Bai-Tee and you’ll immediately notice it feels different. Rather than a traditional bakery where guests simply grab a loaf of bread or a box of pastries, this new concept offers a walk-through service counter and deli-style setup. Shiny glass display cases overflow with desserts—everything from elegant, layered pastries to bite-sized sweets topped with fruit and glaze. Fresh breads and savory options line the counter as well, inviting guests to browse before choosing their favorites.

bai tee bakery sandwiches

But Bai-Tee goes beyond sweets. The menu also offers deli plates, small bites, and seasonal creations that make it just as appealing for lunch or a light dinner as it is for a morning coffee stop. Whether you’re grabbing something quick to enjoy on the beach or settling in for a leisurely meal, Bai-Tee has something to suit every mood.

A Bar with a View

the inside bar at Bai-tee Bakery overlooks the deck - the boardwalk - and the Atlantic ocean

One of the bakery’s standout features is its full bar overlooking the ocean. While many bakeries focus solely on coffee and pastries, Bai-Tee leans into Ocean City’s vibrant food-and-drink culture by offering craft cocktails, wine, and bubbly. Drinks like the Ananas au Feu—a tropical blend of rum, banana, caramelized pineapple, cinnamon, and lemon—highlight the creative menu.

Guests can sip their drinks indoors while enjoying the stylish décor, or head outside to Bai-Tee’s elevated outdoor seating area. Located just above the Boardwalk, the terrace offers the best of both worlds: it’s close enough to feel the Boardwalk’s energy but high enough to provide a quieter, more relaxed experience.

A Stylish Gathering Place

Peter has a reputation for blending design, atmosphere, and flavor, and Bai-Tee continues that tradition. Inside, the bakery features sleek tiled walls, greenery, and chandeliers that create a modern yet welcoming vibe. The space is open and airy, encouraging people to stay and connect, whether for a casual breakfast, a mid-afternoon treat, or cocktails at sunset.

Special events, private gatherings, and group outings will also find a natural home here. With its combination of bakery, deli, and bar, Bai-Tee is versatile enough to host everything from family get-togethers to after-work meetups.

The Bai-Tee Experience

Peter Elias - owner of Bai Tee bakery offers treats to the attendees

At its heart, Bai-Tee Bakery is about celebrating the joy of food and the beauty of Ocean City. It’s a place where the community can come together, where visitors can discover something new, and where every detail—from the desserts to the drinks to the design—reflects a commitment to excellence.

For locals, Bai-Tee offers a fresh spot to enjoy breakfast, lunch, or evening cocktails with an unbeatable view. For visitors, it’s an experience worth adding to the vacation itinerary, capturing the flavors and atmosphere that make Ocean City such a special place.

With Bai-Tee Bakery, Peter once again proves that Ocean City’s dining scene can be innovative, stylish, and unforgettable. This new addition to the Commander Hotel and the Boardwalk isn’t just a bakery—it’s a bold step forward in the way we experience food and community at the beach.

The Morning After: Ocean City’s Post-Storm Return to Normal

This morning, the Town of Ocean City was busy restoring order after the effects of Hurricane Erin left their mark. Lifeguard chairs were moved back into place, while the ocean and wind-swept sand from yesterday’s storm was cleaned up. Evidence of the storm’s power, like tidal pools by the Boardwalk wall and sand on the beach steps, remained—though the Boardwalk itself was largely clear. Visitors, eager to get back outside, were out enjoying the beautiful weather and watching the stunning waves from a safe distance.

Yesterday’s stormy weather has moved off the coast and today the weather couldn’t be better for day two of Ocean City’s Jeep Fest, which continues through August 24th. This morning’s beach crawl was able to take place and people emerged from their bunkers to enjoy the spectacle and embrace the sunny skies after yesterdays clouds and winds. The beach was extra flat after a very high tide last night, perhaps less challenging for the Jeeps, but very appreciative for the spectators!

Check out the videos from Jeep Fest on our Facebook page here.

Hurricane Erin Affects Ocean City – Photos

While Hurricane Erin is offshore and moving to the Northeast, her affects on the coast are visible.  The ocean looks angry and big waves crash against the pier and the beaches with regularity.  2 pm is supposed to be when Erin is directly off Ocean City, but the storm effects will be felt for several more hours.

The Ocean City Beach Patrol

OC Beach Patrol watches the waves as Hurricane Erin moved northward off the beach in Ocean Citiy

The Ocean City Beach Patrol has closed the ocean – asking people to stay out of the water – for all activities – from wading, to swimming and surfing.  Please listen to them. Erin’s power is moving massive quantities of water around and when you are caught in the rip current that is trying to bring that water back into the ocean off the beach, you can die and so can people who are trying to rescue you.  Please, stay in the sand, well away from the water.  And don’t forget that long period waves generated by a storm far away can be bigger than what you see.  Stay well back from the waves.  One big wave can knock you over.  They are fun to watch, but please be safe.

The Waves are BIG

The Boardwalk

the boardwalk looks pretty clean as erin heads up the coast

The Boardwalk looked pretty devoid of sand thanks to earlier work of the town employees.  However, the largest amount of water on the beach and perhaps even the boardwalk will be later this afternoon.  The hurricane wall is in place, however.

Jeep Fest

Jeep Fest was scheduled for 7:45 this morning and then postponed to 8:15.  The Beach Patrol and town employees were conversing with the Jeep Fest organizers as water surged under the pier all the way to the decking by the Boardwalk.  No jeeps were going under the pier this year.

jeeps start to enter the boardwalk in ocean city

Instead, they rode onto the boardwalk by Jolly Roger and then down onto the sand and into the sand course.  A few stalwart individuals were there to watch, but mostly, the Jeep owners loved going out in the storm.  It was barely raining, but the wind was howling and the sand was blowing.  Perfect, for a fun day on the beach in your Jeep!

At 2 p.m. on the beach near the Carousel Hotel, we braved a deserted beach where the wind blasted us with sand and nearly blew us off our feet. Despite the low tide, the waves were enormous, some crashing almost to the sand dunes.

OC Rock and Ride Festival: A New Era in Ocean City

bikefest is now oc rock n ride for 2025
Here’s a visual glimpse at the OC Rock & Ride branding—very similar to the Bike Fest/Bike Week branding, capturing the energy and spirit of Ocean City’s new motorcycle rally, but reflecting the fun of the past.  This is the next chapter in the beloved tradition previously known as BikeFest, but now run by locals Mark and Tyler Odachoski.

From Bike Week to Rock and Ride

For years, Ocean City’s Bike Week and BikeFest drew thousands of riders and fans to the shore for one of the East Coast’s largest motorcycle rallies. But after changes in promotion and management left the event’s future uncertain, many wondered if the tradition would fade away.

Enter OC Rock and Ride—a brand-new festival created by local residents Matthew and Tyler Odachowski. Determined to protect the legacy of Ocean City’s rally while giving it fresh energy, they re-imagined the event with a sharper focus on rock music, family-friendly fun, and community involvement.

The result is a festival that honors the past while paving the way for the future.

What’s New in 2025

bikes at OC Bikefest 2022

The OC Rock and Ride Festival takes over Ocean City this September with a bigger stage, bolder concerts, and expanded activities. Legendary rock bands including Queensrÿche, Slaughter, and Quiet Riot will headline the event, bringing national talent to the Inlet and Convention Center.

But the festival isn’t just about music. Expect:

  • Expanded Boardwalk Ride – The traditional group ride down the Boardwalk is back and better than ever, now spread across two days.

  • Vendor Villages – Custom bikes, apparel, accessories, and unique gear for riders and fans.

  • Stunt Shows & Demo Rides – High-octane performances and factory test rides for anyone looking to experience the thrill.

  • Poker Runs & Charity Rides – Classic rally traditions that connect riders to local causes and the community.

Why the Change Matters

The shift from BikeFest to Rock and Ride is more than just a new name. It’s about ownership, vision, and ensuring Ocean City continues to host a marquee fall event that draws visitors, boosts the local economy, and creates lasting memories.

By bringing the festival back under local leadership, Rock & Ride promises to stay true to Ocean City’s unique character—where the roar of engines, the pulse of live music, and the ocean breeze combine into an unforgettable experience.

A Tradition Reborn

When the sun sets over the Inlet and the last guitar chord fades into the sound of motorcycles revving along Coastal Highway, one thing will be clear: the tradition of Ocean City’s motorcycle rally is alive and well—reborn as the OC Rock and Ride Festival.

With its mix of roaring bikes, electrifying concerts, and community spirit, Rock & Ride isn’t just a replacement for Bike Week—it’s the start of a bold new chapter on Maryland’s coast.

Ocean City closes the beach to Swimming, Wading & Surfing Ahead of Hurricane Erin-Related Storm Activity

As tropical weather ramps up off the Atlantic Coast, Ocean City, Maryland, has officially closed the ocean to all swimming, surfing, and wading activities. The Ocean City Beach Patrol (OCBP) made the announcement Tuesday morning, August 19, in response to treacherous surf conditions caused not by Hurricane Erin directly, but by a separate low-pressure system ahead of the hurricane’s projected arrival.

Why the Ocean is Closed Today

According to OCBP, dangerous breaking waves in the surf zone (shore break) combined with a high risk of rip currents have created life-threatening conditions in the water. While lifeguards are still stationed on duty to protect beachgoers and provide information, they are urging all visitors to stay out of the water completely until conditions improve.

Ocean City Beach Patrol Statement:
“The conditions are deadly. Do not enter the ocean until further notice. Lifeguards are on duty today to inform and protect the public, but for everyone’s safety: no swimming, wading or surfing until further notice.”

Rip Currents: A Silent but Deadly Threat

Thanks to NOAA: www.ripcurrents.noaa.gov

Rip currents are fast-moving channels of water that can pull even the strongest swimmers away from shore in seconds. They often form near breaks in sandbars and are especially common when large surf or strong tides occur, as seen with today’s weather.

Ignoring warnings about rip currents is not just dangerous—it can be fatal. Every year, rip currents claim lives in the Mid-Atlantic, and Ocean City officials are doing everything they can to prevent tragedies.

Hurricane Erin: Not Here Yet, But Still a Threat

Thanks to weather.gov

Although the current hazardous conditions are not directly from Hurricane Erin, the Category 1 storm continues to move northward through the Atlantic. According to the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Erin is expected to bring increasingly strong winds and rough surf to the Mid-Atlantic coast starting Thursday.

Here’s the latest storm projection from Tuesday, August 19 at 11 AM EDT:

  • Wednesday 8 AM – Thursday 8 PM: Ocean City may experience intensified surf and winds as Erin skirts the coast.

  • Friday & Beyond: Erin’s outer bands are expected to continue affecting Maryland’s coastline through the weekend with large swells and rip current risks.

The Good News: Sunny Days Ahead (With Dry Feet)

Photo friday kids on the beach
Marsha Boback The classic Ocean City scope pose with the littles.

Despite the ocean closure, Ocean City’s weather outlook for the rest of the week is relatively pleasant:

  • Wednesday–Friday: Mostly cloudy with breezy conditions, occasional light rain possible

  • Saturday–Sunday: Partly to mostly sunny, highs in the upper 70s to low 80s

  • Next Week: Mostly sunny skies are expected to return, with clear, dry beach days perfect for sand, sun, and shore strolls

What You Can Still Do in Ocean City

Just because the ocean’s closed doesn’t mean the fun is! With the weather turning dry and mild after Erin passes, here are some awesome things to enjoy without getting your feet wet:

  • Boardwalk Adventures: Ride the rides, explore the arcades, or try a famous bucket of fries.  You can also download the Best of Ocean City® passes to visit the winners and win prizes!

  • Fishing from the Pier: Stay safe and dry while casting from land.

  • Shopping & Art: Explore the Ocean City Art League or browse shops along the Boardwalk or boutiques in Berlin.  You can download Trails to help you explore, get discount coupons AND WIN PRIZES.

Park Place was voted Best of Ocean City Boardwalk- Shops by editorial staff.

  • Family Attractions: Try mini golf, the OC Life-Saving Station Museum, or climb some ropes at Nick’s.

  • Live Music: Catch concerts and beachside performances at the Ocean City Performing Arts Center, Seacrets or around town.

Hurricane Erin Bringing Life Threatening Ocean Conditions to Ocean City

hurricane erin position and projected path by weather.com

Storm Update: Dangerous Conditions in Ocean City

The storm’s full impact has now reached Ocean City, bringing deadly ocean conditions and flooding concerns. Ocean City Beach Patrol reports that the tide is going out until 12:30 p.m., yet ocean water has already reached the boardwalk and dune line. When the tide turns and begins to rise again, even more water is expected on the beach. For that reason, even walking on the beach can be dangerous.

For everyone’s safety:

  • No swimming, wading, or surfing is allowed.

  • Conditions are deadly. Do not enter the water.

  • Hurricane Erin is causing life-threatening rip currents.  STAY OUT OF THE WATER!
  • Visitors should check in with a Surf Rescue Technician on duty for the latest updates.

Lifeguards remain on duty each day to inform and protect the public, but cooperation is critical to keeping everyone safe. Please stay out of the ocean and avoid flooded beach areas.

weather.com map of erin storm warnings along the east coast

According to Weather.com, “While the hurricane’s maximum sustained winds have not changed much since Wednesday afternoon, the size of Erin’s tropical-storm- and hurricane-force winds has increased dramatically over the past few days, as expected. Winds have been gusting between 40 and 50 mph on the Outer Banks, and a NOAA buoy about 170 miles east of Hatteras near the center reported winds gusting to 85 mph and up to 40 foot waves early Thursday morning.”

What to Do Instead

Even though the beach and ocean are unsafe, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy Ocean City during the storm.  It’s not raining most of the time.  Maybe a little mist and blowing salt air, but we love that at the beach.  Get outside, you don’t have to hide indoors.  Luckily Hurricane Erin is just moving up the East Coast, well out to sea.  So, here are some fun things to do instead of swimming:

  • Watch the water from a safe distance.Waves from Hurricane Erin crash into the Ocean City pier

  • Explore the boardwalk shops and arcades.  Eat popcorn!fishers popcorn is open on the boardwalk as hurricane erin closes the ocean, but not Ocean City

  • Stop by Ocean City’s many restaurants and bars for local seafood, famous orange crushes, or a cozy meal indoors.

  • Download a Trail and get discounted coupons and/or earn points towards prizes.  The Best of Ocean City® trails and the Explore the Town of Berlin: the Game are all great ways to start earning points towards prizes and a future stay in Ocean City!
  • Visit attractions like the Ocean City Life-Saving Station Museum or Northside Park’s recreation areas.

  • Watch the Jeeps that are in town for Jeep Fest!jeeps on the beach with an angry ocean in the background - jeep fest and hurricane erin coincide
  • Take a drive to nearby Berlin, Maryland, voted America’s Coolest Small Town, for shopping, dining, and history.  Download the Explore Berlin Trail to win prizes and save money!

Stay safe, stay dry, and enjoy all that Ocean City has to offer off the beach. OceanCity.com will continue to provide updates as conditions change.
