Apply for a marriage license

Once you’ve decided on an Ocean City, Maryland, wedding, your first step is to apply for a Worcester County marriage license. Call the Clerk of Court Office at 410-632-5500 to find out what’s required, and what documents are needed.

First Step for a Beach Wedding in Ocean City

Call the Mayor's Office

Arrange a Beach Wedding Ceremony

If you want to arrange a beach ceremony, call the Ocean City Mayor’s Office at 410-289-8931. You’ll need to provide someone to officiate, since Ocean City doesn’t have a Justice of the Peace.

 

Wedding Prep Check-List

Make sure you can get it all done
  • Choose your wedding date and time
  • Select the type of wedding you will have
  • Discuss your budget and who will pay for what
  • Consider hiring a wedding coordinator
  • Make arrangements with a religious officiator
  • Select wedding and reception locations
  • Select bridesmaids, best men and other roles
  • Place engagement announcements in local newspapers
  • Choose your wedding dress, veil and other accessories
  • Select a photographer, videographer, caterer, florist and D.J.
  • Discuss the guest list
  • Discuss honeymoon and make reservations (this is traditionally done by the Groom)
  • Arrange for time off work

4-6 months out: Check-List

Start early
  • Start bridal registries at your favorite stores
  • Order dresses, tuxedos, shoes and accessories
  • Order invitations
  • Select a color scheme
  • Parents should select attire

Make sure you get a permit

Assateague and Ocean City require permits. Once you have a marriage license and an officiant, submit this form on oceancitymd.gov.

2-4 months out: Check-List

Start early
  • Select and order wedding bands
  • Order wedding cake
  • Check state and county marriage license requirements and obtain marriage license
  • Plan meny for reception
  • Choose reception music or entertainment
  • Complete guest list and send invitations
  • Arrange for lodging for out of town guests
  • Purchase gifts for the wedding party
  • Make reception seating chart if necessary 1 Month Prior
  • Review all arrangements
  • Finalize rehearsal dinner arrangements
  • Call guests who have not responded
  • Give final counts to the caterer

More details on getting married in Worcester County

Ocean City Weddings

You need to apply for a Worcester County marriage license. Call the Clerk of Court Office in Snow Hill at 410-632-5500 to find out what’s required and what documents are needed. 
No.  You must wait until after 6 am on the second calendar day after you apply for the license before you can be married.
The hours for applying are 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
According to the Worcester County site,
  • “Only the bride or groom need apply. The fee for a marriage license application is $35.00, CASH only, no checks accepted. You will need to show a drivers license or birth certificate for both the bride and groom. No blood test is required. We need to have Social Security numbers for both.
  • The fee for a civil ceremony is $25.00, CASH only, no checks accepted. Please make an appointment at the time you apply. We can accommodate no more than six people.
  • You must be married in Worcester County, if you obtain your license in this county.
  • You must wait until after 6:00 a.m. on the second calendar day after you apply for the license before you can be married.
  • The license is valid for six months from the date of issue.
  • If either party is divorced, we need documentation of same, please bring papers with you. If bride resumes her maiden name, we will need to see documentation of same.
  • If either of you have a deceased spouse, you will need to know the date and place of death.
  • If under 18, please call for information.”

  1. what if we just want to renew our vows on the beach. This is our 40th wedding anniversary and I thought it would be nice to
    do that if not to expensive.
