The Ocean City Boardwalk trams, a summer tradition since 1964, will not return. City Manager Terry McGean confirmed this week that the town has decided to permanently discontinue the service, which was suspended August 2024 after a tragic accident claimed the life of a toddler.
“The Town acknowledges the long-standing tradition and the fond memories many residents and visitors have of the Boardwalk tram, however after thoughtful review and extensive discussion, the trams will not return in their previous form,” McGean said in an email Monday. “That said, the Town is actively exploring ways to reimagine the Boardwalk without the trams and the goal is to introduce new attractions and experiences to connect visitors along the Boardwalk in a safe and enjoyable way.” according to Ocean City Today Dispatch
McGean said the Jeeps once used for the trams have since been repurposed, and the Town plans to sell the trailers.

Dogfish Head – World Wide Stout, 18% ABV, 70 IBU
Brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley, World Wide Stout is dark, rich, roasty and complex. This ageable ale clocks in at 15-20% ABV and has a depth more in line with a fine port than with a can of cheap, mass-marketed beer.
Calvert Brewing – Route 4 IPA (WILL POUR AFTER WORLD WIDE STOUT IS GONE), 6.5% ABV, 76 IBU
Dedicated to one of Maryland’s first major highways. This balanced IPA is restrained and easy to drink thanks to the fruity aroma and caramel malt that balances out the hop bitterness. Hops: Simcoe, Centennial, Amarillo

Refreshing and great for the beach, Crushin’ It is soon to be your summer staple. With Citra, Mosaic, and Azacca hops blending together to accentuate the fresh flavors of orange juice, Crushin’ It is dry, approachable, and perfectly balanced
Heavy Seas – Loose Cannon, IPA American, 7.2% ABV, 45 IBU,
Our flagship beer, Loose Cannon wins people over at first smell. The carefully cultivated interplay of Simcoe, Palisade, and Centennial creates a most fragrant IPA—its nose bursts with notes of grapefruit, herbs, and pine. Bitterness is somewhat subdued by the floral quality that pervades the taste. The color is burnished gold, and the mouthfeel is creamy. A strong malt backbone balances out the triple-hopped beer. Its nickname, Hop3, comes from the brewing process: our brewers hop Loose Cannon in the boil, the hopback, and the fermenter. It won a second place CAMRA award at the 2010 Great British Beer Festival

The Town of Ocean City’s Emergency Management Department, together with Town leadership, continues to track the coastal storm and its evolving effects. The National Weather Service and local meteorologists have issued new guidance for residents and visitors.
Storm & Wind Conditions
The forecast for wind speeds has eased slightly, though gusts may still reach up to 50 mph.
According to WBOC, a gale warning remains in effect until 8 a.m. Monday, with north winds of 20 to 30 knots and gusts up to 40 knots over coastal and inland waters. WBOC TV
Meteorologists warn that overnight into Monday, gusts above 50 mph are also possible as the storm persists. WBOC TV
Waves in the coastal zone are expected to be 3 to 6 feet, posing hazards to small craft and coastal access. WBOC TV
Flood / Tide Outlook & Coastal Impacts
Water is up to the snow fencing at the Carousel Hotel
High tide events are projected at 1:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m. — with flooding likely about 2 hours later on the bayside (around 3:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m.).
WBOC’s reporting and radar imagery show “wicked” waves and elevated water levels encroaching on the inlet and boardwalk areas. WBOC TV
The storm also brings coastal flooding, beach erosion, and strong wind-driven surge into low-lying streets, particularly near tidal rivers and bays. WBOC TV
NOAA’s ocean gauge at the inlet (OCIM2) suggests that shallow flooding is expected in vulnerable waterfront zones—with some road closures and vehicle inundation possible. National Water Prediction Service
It’s windy at Seacrets, but no street flooding-people and cars moving.
Parking & Public Safety Advisory
Everyone with vehicles parked on downtown streets — from the Inlet to 15th Street — is strongly urged to relocate to higher ground to avoid flood damage.
The Town reminds residents and visitors: do not drive through standing water. Even a few inches can disable a vehicle or hide hazards underneath.
Avoid flood-prone areas, stay alert, and exercise caution, especially during peak tidal periods.
Leadership Comments
“We continue to monitor the storm’s progression and will provide updates as necessary,” said Mayor Rick Meehan. “While wind conditions have improved slightly, we are expecting moderate flooding during the high tide cycles. Residents and visitors, specifically in the downtown and bayside areas, could experience increased flooding during the bayside high tide cycles around 3 p.m. and again early Monday morning.”
Communications & Support
The Town has activated its Joint Information Center (JIC) to coordinate messaging and updates.
For further assistance or questions, use the contact form on oceancitymd.gov, or call 410-520-5285.

Every October, Ocean City shows what it does best: showing up for one another. The Hope Palmer Pink Party is more than a great afternoon out—it’s a community rallying behind breast cancer screening, treatment, and survivorship on the Lower Shore. Come dressed in pink, bring your friends, and help us fuel lifesaving programs close to home.
Hope’s Story: “Infinite Hope”
In June 2011, Hope Palmer—then 37 and a mother of two young boys—went in for a routine OB/GYN visit and left with a stage III breast cancer diagnosis. She faced a double mastectomy, multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and clinical trials. Through it all, her boys were her North Star, and she received care close to home at TidalHealth’s Richard A. Henson Cancer Institute. Today, she continues regular follow-up with her oncologist and channels her energy into helping others get screened sooner through TidalHealth’s Drive for Mobile Mammography. As Hope says, early detection is a lifesaver—and making care convenient helps more women get screened on time. TidalHealth
Learn more about Hope’s journey and the Drive for Mobile Mammography initiative in TidalHealth’s “Infinite Hope: A Survivor Story.” TidalHealth
Event Details (from the Pink Party flyer)
What: Hope Palmer Pink Party — a community fundraiser for breast cancer efforts
When & Where: Saturday, October 11, 1-5 on at Sunset Grille
Early detection saves lives. Survival rates improve dramatically with screening and earlier-stage diagnosis. Hope’s support for mobile mammography highlights a powerful idea: bring the screening to people—especially those facing cost or transportation barriers. TidalHealth
Care close to home reduces burden. Treatment is a marathon; eliminating long travel helps families focus on healing, not logistics. TidalHealth
Local dollars, local impact. Donations to regional programs like TidalHealth’s campaign stay on the Shore and serve our neighbors—friends, coworkers, and family members. TidalHealth
Why “Party with a Purpose”
Fundraisers like the Pink Party turn awareness into action. A night of music, food, and community gives us:
Momentum—to fund more screenings, support services, and survivor programs now
Visibility—to reach those who might be delaying a mammogram or don’t know about local resources
Belonging—for survivors and families to feel seen, supported, and celebrated
When we gather, we raise not just dollars—but courage.
The Ocean City Difference: A Town that Gives
Ocean City’s business community is famously altruistic. Year after year, restaurants, bars, hotels, retailers, realtors, anglers, and event producers open their doors, donate auction items, sponsor stages, promote ticket sales, and rally staff and guests for causes like breast cancer screening. Locals buy the raffles, tip the bands, and run the routes. That’s our culture: hospitality meets heart.
The Pink Party is a perfect snapshot of that spirit. From venue hosts and beverage partners to sponsors, musicians and donors—this town shows up. It’s the kind of generosity that turns a good party into measurable impact for local families.
How to Help Right Now
Attend the event and invite a friend who needs a fun afternoon out.
Wear pink and share photos to spread the word.

The Endless Summer Cruisin’ Car Show is back in Ocean City this week—and today’s weather couldn’t have been better for the iconic Boardwalk Parade. Each year, more than 2,000 classic cars and thousands of fans roll into town for a weekend full of car shows, national vendors, live music, and celebrity meet and greets, all set against Ocean City’s beautiful fall backdrop.
If you missed today’s Boardwalk Parade, don’t worry—there will be more on Friday and Saturday mornings around 8 a.m., starting at 26th Street and heading south on the Boardwal. So grab a coffee, throw on a sweatshirt (and maybe pack an umbrella), and enjoy the show!
Country Calling 2025 in Ocean City, Maryland was one for the books — and for once, not because of the weather! After three consecutive years of getting rained on during both Country Calling and Oceans Calling festivals, the skies finally cut us a break. The sun was shining, the breeze was gentle, and the weather was nothing short of perfection. It set the stage — literally and figuratively — for a weekend full of high energy, big names, and unforgettable moments on the boardwalk.
Carrie, Luke, and Luke!
Carrie Underwood performs on the Boot Stage at Country Calling in Ocean City, Maryland.
The headliners? Absolutely top notch. These global superstars delivered performances that had the crowd singing their hearts out and fans reminiscing about their favorite sets as they walked home down the iconic boardwalk. Many attendees were back for their second year of country music on the sand, and it showed — the energy was palpable.
Have Fun and Be Safe 🙂
Crowds were greeting with happy hellos from security as they walked through the lines to enter the festival.
Organizationally, this year’s festival felt impressively smooth. The lines for food and bathrooms moved quickly, a rare feat for events of this size. The ticket booth was more accessible than ever, right on the boardwalk and easy to navigate. Getting into the venue was also surprisingly efficient — long lines moved fast, and the staff greeted fans with warm smiles, reminding everyone to “have fun” and “be safe.” It was a small touch, but it made a difference.
Dolles Dogs
Dolles created a Weiner Window for the Callings Concerts- hot dog, chips, and soda for just $10! (Photo Credit: Dolles IG)
One particularly memorable highlight was Dolles “Weiner Window” — a $10 deal for a soda, hot dog, and chips that had festival-goers lining up for a break from overpriced concert food. Of course, no trip to the boardwalk is complete without grabbing a sweet treat from Dolle’s itself, and the festival crowd kept that tradition alive.
…But as with any massive event, not everything was perfect.
Ride Share Complaints
Brooks and Dunn sang their hearts out to fans on the Boot Stage Friday evening!
One major complaint among festival-goers was the rideshare situation. With drop-offs and pickups limited to the 4th Street municipal lot, many were frustrated by the long walk — especially after hours of dancing and sun. Another sour note came when some bands encouraged fans to throw beer cans into the crowd — a reckless move that resulted in one young girl, who had saved her own money to attend, getting hit in the eye and needing ambulance care.

Super fans ran from the entrance gates to get their spot at noon and stayed just to get a first row spot at Country Calling.
Crowd behavior was a mixed bag. While most people were friendly and excited, some overindulged and had to be escorted out by security. Others were just plain rude, elbowing their way to the front, ignoring the unspoken rule that those who camp out early earn their front-row spot.
Money, Money, Money
Jordan Davis took the Scoot Stage by storm signing his top hits.
Food prices within the concert zone also raised eyebrows — significantly higher than normal boardwalk rates. And while the headliners were undeniably incredible, there was a noticeable drop in mid-day star power compared to last year. It seemed like much of the budget went into the three top acts, leaving earlier bands a bit underwhelming by comparison.
Still, despite the few bumps, Country Calling delivered another unforgettable weekend full of music, sun, and good vibes. As we close the book on this year’s concert, the only question left is: how many months until we can do it all over again?

These days, Ocean City is a year round resort, although a trip here in the summer can be very different from a winter visit. If you are looking to get away from it all, time to relax and focus on family and friends, this is the place to be during the fall and winter. It’s a much slower pace, but that can be a good thing! You can choose to do nothing, or you can choose to take advantage of all that off season Ocean City has to offer.
Walk the Ocean City Boardwalk
morning boardwalk

A walk along the Boardwalk during the quieter off-season may be even more enjoyable than in the hot, busy summer months of July and August. Grab a coffee and enjoy the almost 3 miles of safe, car free boards. Take advantage of less people and ride a bike from one end to the other, any time of the day!
Enjoy Assateague & the Wild Ponies
Hop in the car and take a trip to Assateague. The State Park is open. The Assateague Island National Seashore is open, but the visitors center is closed, the OSV is closed due to the Government shut-down. Assateague is well known for its wild ponies, off-course. Don’t Miss It!
From beer lovers to music fans to families enjoying the crisp fall air, Berlin Oktoberfest has something for everyone. Tickets and mugs are limited, so plan ahead and buy early to skip the lines!
Ocean City, Maryland, is the place to be this fall. The first weekend of November (November 1–2, 2025) is packed with things to do, from the OC RV & Van Lifestyle Show to the Bronco Beach Bash, plus Halloween events on Friday night. But let’s be clear: the event you don’t want to miss is the Octoberfest Shore Craft Beer Fest on Saturday, November 1.
And this year, the timing couldn’t be better: the weather on November 1 is typically perfect: sunshine, crisp fall air, and no hurricanes or rain in sight.
“But Halloween is Friday night…”
We get it — Friday night is all about costumes, candy, and late-night fun. Families will be at the Haunted Highway Trick-or-Treat Bash at the Convention Center (Oct 31, 4:30–7 p.m.), while adults flock to Ocean City’s nightlife. One of the biggest highlights is the legendary Halloween Costume Contest at Seacretsdetails here.
So here’s the pitch: why stop the party after Friday night?
Octoberfest Shore Craft Beer Fest is the perfect after-party. Show off that costume one more time, keep the good vibes going, and switch from cocktails and late-night shots to unlimited local craft beer tastings, cider, mead, hard tea, and cocktails in the fresh fall sunshine with a gorgeous view of the bay.
Saturday, November 1: Octoberfest Shore Craft Beer Fest
Picture this: You wake up Saturday, grab your friends, put your Halloween costume back on, and head downtown by the bay. The sun is shining, there’s a fall breeze, and live music is playing. Food trucks are serving, breweries like Dogfish Head, Burley Oak, Big Oyster, Fin City, Evolution, Burnish, and Big Truck are pouring, and your night-out crew is all together again — just in daylight.
It’s the ideal way to turn Halloween weekend into a two-day celebration.
Why Families (and Pet Owners) Love It Too
One of the best parts about Octoberfest is that it’s not just for late-night partiers. This event is kid- and pet-friendly:
There’s a playground at 3rd Street Bayside Park where kids can play while parents enjoy tastings.
Dogs are welcome on leashes, so nobody has to stay home.
Non-alcoholic options are available, making it inclusive for designated drivers and non-drinkers.
This makes Octoberfest unique: you can party with your friends, include your kids, bring your dog, and still enjoy one of Ocean City’s best festivals.
Octoberfest is Adding a Costume Contest!
Yes — we have added a costume contest for the day after Halloween.
Tap back into to the Halloween energy from the night before – or just keep it going all night long.
A daylight costume contest where you AND THE KIDS can win is a fun way to make the weekend extra special!
We will have an award for the best adult costume and an award for the best kids costumes. We may have to break the kids awards into 2 categories: 0-6 and 7-12.
Jimmy Greene We caught this Beautiful site on Assateague Adventures
ASSATEAGUE ISLAND, Md. – The ongoing federal government shutdown has forced Assateague Island National Seashore into limited operations, leaving visitors with open beaches and campgrounds but few staff and services available.
According to the National Park Service’s official lapse plan (PDF here), the ASSATEAGUE ISLAND National Seashore will remain open for day-use activities such as beachgoing, hiking, and wildlife viewing. However, visitor centers are supposedly closed, ranger-led programs are suspended, and most staff have been furloughed. That leaves fewer rangers on duty and significantly reduced services like trash collection, law enforcement, and safety patrols.
On-the-Ground Observations at Assateague Island National Seashore
Day 1: Government Shutdown
During a recent visit, the visitor center was actually open and the desk was staffed by only one ranger, who explained that staff were not permitted to answer questions about the shutdown. At the ranger station where campers normally check in, the doors were locked. The Superintendent’s office number provided went unanswered, with no option to leave a message.
This lack of communication and visible staff presence highlights the challenges of maintaining even partial operations during the shutdown.
Camping Status
You can even work from the beach!
The Recreation.gov system, where visitors typically book Assateague campsites, remains online. However, a notice posted on the site (screenshot above) warns that depending on agency operations, reservations may not be honored if a location closes during the shutdown. While the Assateague campground is technically open, there appears to be no staff available to assist campers or manage check-ins.
The message reads in part:
“Depending on agency operations, if you have a reservation at a location that closes and your reservation is canceled, you’ll receive an email with more information. Some locations will be closed and will not provide an email update. Please check the agency webpage or contact local offices directly for the latest information.”
Visitor Experience and Concerns
Sharon Parker – Finally saw a pony at Assateague!!
For now, Assateague’s beaches and trails remain popular for families and nature lovers, with many still arriving to see the island’s iconic wild horses. Yet the reduced staffing raises concerns about public safety, conservation oversight, and long-term care of the fragile island ecosystem.
Visitors Can Help
Assateague is a wonderful asset to visitors and locals alike. Many of us would miss access if the government closes the park, so the better stewards we all are of this national treasure, the more likely we are to continue to be able to enjoy the ASSATEAGUE ISLAND National Seashore.
Pack in and pack out all trash
Plan for self-sufficiency (no ranger-led programming or assistance available)
Verify campground status through Recreation.gov before traveling
Stay alert around wildlife, as monitoring is reduced
Keep your distance from the ponies. For their safety and yours, please keep your distance. This means in cars too. Yesterday, a young pony showed a great deal of interest in a car. Stopping and creating traffic jams only leads people to behave badly. Please keep moving. Stop and park to take pictures. Discourage ponies from eating your food.
Drive slowly – keep to the posted speed limits. The ponies are not afraid of the road or the cars. Please keep them safe by not speeding and by paying attention to where you are and what is around you.
Looking Ahead
Until Congress restores funding, Assateague Island National Seashore will continue operating under partial, uncertain conditions. For the latest updates, visitors should check the official NPS Assateague website.
