Winterfest of Lights has opened for 2022, and it will not disappoint! Northside Park comes alive as the sun goes down, and it sparkles where ever you look. Like the last couple of years, this year it’s a walk through event. But don’t let that put you off. On the contrary, this way there are less lines, you can go at your own speed, stop to take in your favorite view, take pictures in front of special displays, double back to see it all again, and really get in the holiday spirit. A great experience for people of every age including families, couples, friends, old and young. Children, literally squeal with delight, walk with eyes open wide, or sit back to enjoy the view in strollers and wagons. Older guests stroll around, taking the opportunity to rest on the many picnic tables dotted around the park, and some use the scooters available for rent at the entrance to the park. The walk itself is not that long, no more than half a mile, no more than walking round Walmart, to be honest. But it is so much more fun, you can’t help but smile as you take in the twinkling, shimmering light displays, and listen to the seasonal music playing throughout the park. So grab your hat, gloves, and comfy shoes, and head over to Northside Park for Ocean City’s Winterfest of Lights, you will not be disappointed!

One of the best things about the OC Air Show is that you don’t need a ticket to enjoy it. Nearly the entire beach and Boardwalk offer great viewing opportunities. For a good list, read on or click here.
Beach Between 10th Street and 20th Street
This area is generally considered the center of the show box and offers some of the closest views of the action. Expect large crowds, so arrive early.

The Boardwalk provides an excellent viewing experience while keeping you close to food, drinks, and attractions. It’s a great option for families.
Midtown Oceanfront Beaches
The beaches from approximately 25th Street to 45th Street offer slightly smaller crowds while still providing excellent views of most performances.
North Ocean City Beaches
If you prefer more space, North Ocean City offers a less crowded experience. While some maneuvers may appear farther away, you’ll still have a great view of the larger aircraft demonstrations.
From the Water
Boaters often enjoy some of the best views of the show. Just be sure to stay outside all restricted safety zones and follow directions from law enforcement and Coast Guard personnel.
OceanCity.com Heads to Wallops
Wallops, the Eastern Shore’s home to major rocket launches, will also host some of the teams flying during the OC Air Show including the US Air Force Thunderbirds and France’s legendary Patrouille de France.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook as we’ll be sharing arrival photos, practice-day updates, weather information, and plenty of amazing aviation photography throughout the weekend.
Plan Ahead
The OC Air Show is one of Ocean City’s most popular events of the year. Traffic can be heavy, parking fills quickly, and oceanfront accommodations often sell out.
Arrive early, bring sunscreen, stay hydrated, and get ready for an unforgettable weekend as the Thunderbirds, Patrouille de France, and some of the world’s top aviators take over the skies above Ocean City.
The votes are in your hands — and the field is wide open.
The 2026 Best of Ocean City® Photo Contest has received HUNDREDS OF SUBMISSIONS and now is the time to narrow the field. We’ve received a stunning collection of entries capturing Ocean City at its best — sunrises over the Atlantic, boardwalk moments, bay reflections, wildlife, and everything in between. Thanks to everyone who submitted photos! They are all gorgeous. We need your help selecting the 10 photos that will advance to the final round of public voting.
You may vote for up to 20 photos. Photos are displayed in random order, so scroll through all of the entries before you cast your votes — you don’t want to miss a great shot. New submissions received through Sunday will be culled and the best shots will be added to the pool, so check back if you’d like to vote on the complete set.
A reminder to all photographers: to be eligible to win, we must have a high-resolution version of your photo suitable for printing on an 18″x18″ award plaque. Winners will be selected from the top 10 vote-getters in the final round. We reserve the right to crop photos appropriately for display. If the photo receiving the highest number of votes is not available in the resolution we need to print, we will choose the next photo that is high enough resolution and has the most votes.
OCEAN CITY, MD — June 4, 2026 — The Art League of Ocean City invites community members to attend a special Creative Connections Club meeting. Supported through funding from the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore, this free recurring monthly gathering—hosted every second Friday—will feature a session this June on Friday the 12th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., highlighting Barbara Buford, who will introduce participants to the practice of Neurographic Art.
Neurographic Art is a free-form drawing technique designed to help calm the mind, reduce stress, and encourage relaxation through creative expression. The practice combines simple lines and shapes in an intuitive process that promotes mindfulness and personal reflection, making it accessible to individuals of all artistic skill levels.
The two hour session will be interactive, with a short talk on the science behind neurographics and a hands on lesson on how to incorporate the practice into your life. Barbara Buford will demonstrate how this creative practice can be used as a tool for stress management, emotional well-being, and self-discovery. As a core component of Creative Connections a portion of the time is set aside for socializing with other peers over light refreshments.
“I loved being part of this free program for adults 60 and older,” said Sharyn O’Hare, ALOC member and 2025 Gladiator for the Arts, who attended the first Creative Connections event. “It gave me the chance to learn new things, express my creativity, and connect with wonderful people in the community.”
The event is free and open to all interested age 60+ participants. No previous art experience is required.

For the first time in history, the FIFA World Cup will be hosted by three nations — the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The 2026 tournament will also be the biggest World Cup ever, expanding from 32 to 48 national teams and taking place across 16 cities throughout North America. And yes, Lionel Messi is set to play in the 2026 World Cup, becoming the first male player to compete in six different World Cup finals.
Ocean City will be getting in on the action between June 11 – July 19, as local bars and restaurants gear up to show matches and offer game-day specials. Whether you’re a casual viewer or a die-hard soccer fan (or should we call it football for the summer so we fit in with the rest of the world?), there will be plenty of places to grab a seat, cheer on a team, groan at the referee, celebrate goals, sweat through penalty kicks, and watch dramatic dives worthy of an Oscar nomination. Here’s some suggestions:
The Angler is partnering with Eastern Shore Distributing (Michelob Ultra) to promote the World Cup, and there will be a floating screen set up out in the bay!
Crawl Street Tavern during St Patrick’s Day Celebrations
The World Cup will be showing on the TVs at Crawl Street Tavern, and if a game occurs during a Friday or Saturday night while live music is playing, they will still show it without the sound! It’s the best of both worlds!
Vista Rooftop at the Fenwick Inn will be showing the World Cup, so if you can pull your eyes away from the fabulous views of Ocean City, you’ll also get to watch a match or two!
We will update this article as more information becomes available.

Safety Reminders
To help everyone stay safe and enjoy the weekend, we encourage all attendees to follow simple but essential safety tips. If you’re walking, remember to Walk Smart: cross only at marked crosswalks, stay alert, obey all traffic signals, and use sidewalks instead of crossing mid-block. Always make eye contact with drivers before stepping into the street.
Drivers, please Drive Smart. Stop for all pedestrians in crosswalks—it’s Maryland law. Slow down, especially when turning, and stay focused by avoiding texting or using handheld devices while driving. Be extra mindful of people riding bicycles or scooters, and do not drive in designated bike or bus lanes.
If you’re riding a bicycle or scooter, be sure to wear a helmet, follow the flow of traffic, and obey all traffic signs and signals. Use bike lanes where available, and always stay visible to drivers, especially at intersections.
Whether you’re on foot, behind the wheel, or on two wheels, remember that safety is everyone’s responsibility. Staying alert and following the rules of the road will not only make this Air Show weekend safe but also ensure that everyone can enjoy the event without any worries.
Let’s work together to ensure the 2026 O.C. Air Show is safe and enjoyable for all. Arrive early, plan to stay late, and enjoy everything Ocean City has to offer.
Visitors and residents parking in downtown Ocean City this summer may notice a significant change: traditional parking meters have been removed and replaced with a fully digital payment system.
The Town of Ocean City now requires motorists to pay for parking through a mobile parking app, making it easier to manage parking sessions without returning to a meter. Drivers can simply enter their parking zone information into the app, pay electronically, and even extend their parking time remotely when needed.
While many visitors appreciate the convenience of mobile payments, some have expressed concerns about the new system, particularly those who do not own smartphones or may have difficulty accessing WiFi or cellular service while visiting the beach.
To address these concerns, Ocean City has provided an alternative payment option. Anyone who does not have a smartphone or is unable to connect to the internet can pay for parking by calling the phone number displayed on all parking signs throughout the paid parking areas. The phone payment option allows drivers to complete their parking transaction without using the mobile app.
Town officials encourage visitors to review the parking signs carefully when they arrive, as each sign includes the necessary information for both app-based payments and phone payments.
The move to a digital parking system is part of a growing trend among municipalities nationwide that are replacing traditional parking meters with technology-based solutions. Supporters say the system offers greater convenience and flexibility, while critics note that it can present challenges for visitors who are less familiar with smartphone technology.
As the busy summer season gets underway, Ocean City officials remind motorists to pay close attention to parking regulations and ensure their parking session is properly activated—whether through the mobile app or by calling the phone number listed on the parking signs.
The phone number to call if you have no smart phone is (877) 727-5758.

Kalamata Meze Bar – Best New Restaurant Voters Choice
Best of Ocean City®: Why OceanCity.com Remains Ocean City’s Most Trusted People’s Choice Awards
Best of Ocean City® is different.
For more than two decades, OceanCity.com’s Best of Ocean City® has been helping visitors and locals discover the best restaurants, bars, things to do, shops, and Boardwalk businesses in Ocean City, Maryland.
In a world filled with “best of” contests, sponsored rankings, and paid awards, Best of Ocean City® remains committed to a simple principle:
The winners are chosen by the people—not by advertising dollars.
Businesses cannot buy a win. They cannot sponsor a category to improve their chances. They cannot pay for placement in the results.
Every Best of Ocean City® winner earns recognition through the support of voters who participate throughout the year.
That commitment to fairness is why Best of Ocean City® has become one of the most trusted resources for anyone looking for the best things to do, places to eat, and places on the Boardwalk in Ocean City, Maryland.
How Best of Ocean City® Voting Works
Unlike many contests that open for only a few days or weeks, Best of Ocean City® voting remains open for nearly an entire year.
Anyone can participate, and voters can cast votes once each week for their favorite Ocean City businesses.
This long voting period allows thousands of residents, vacationers, second homeowners, seasonal workers, and repeat visitors to participate.
The result is a larger and more representative sample of opinions than a short-term voting contest.
When visitors search for the best restaurants in Ocean City, the best bars, the best things to do and the Best of the Boardwalk, they can feel confident that the Best of Ocean City® results reflect the voices of real customers and community members.
Protecting the Integrity of the Vote
Maintaining the integrity of Best of Ocean City® has always been one of our highest priorities.
We currently use CrowdSignal to record and analyze votes across hundreds of categories.
Over the years, we have continuously refined our voting safeguards to ensure the results remain accurate and trustworthy.
Several years ago, we discovered attempts to manipulate voting activity. In response, we strengthened our systems by implementing additional protections, including:
Captcha verification on selected polls
Monitoring for unusual voting patterns
Removal of suspicious voting clusters
Review of voting activity originating from the same IP addresses
Analysis of voting behavior occurring within seconds of account registrations
Ongoing manual review of irregular activity
These measures have helped ensure that legitimate voters remain the deciding factor in every category.
New Challenges in the Age of AI
Technology continues to evolve, and unfortunately, so do attempts to manipulate online contests.
During this year’s voting process, we identified voting activity that appears to have been generated through automated methods designed to artificially inflate vote totals.
Fortunately, our review procedures detected these suspicious patterns.
We have already identified and isolated the affected votes and are conducting a comprehensive review of voting activity across all categories before finalizing the results.
Our goal is not simply to announce winners. Our goal is to ensure that every winner truly earned their recognition through legitimate community support.
What Happens When We Find Fraudulent Voting?
As part of our annual review process, OceanCity.com will thoroughly audit voting activity before the final Best of Ocean City® winners are announced.
Any votes determined to be fraudulent, automated, artificially generated, or otherwise in violation of our voting guidelines will be removed from the final totals.
In addition, any business that benefits from voting activity determined to be fraudulent, automated, or manipulated may be subject to disqualification.
Businesses associated with significant or repeated vote manipulation may:
Be removed from the final results
Be disqualified from the current year’s competition
Be prohibited from participating in future Best of Ocean City® contests
We do not take these actions lightly.
However, protecting the integrity of the contest is more important than protecting any individual result.
Why Best of Ocean City® Matters
Every year, tens of thousands of visitors use Best of Ocean City® to plan their vacations and make decisions about where to spend their time and money. You can see the 2025 winners at that link and download the winners onto your phone so it’s easy to find the best restaurant when you are hungry, or the best thing to do on a rainy day when the weather is bad.
28th Street Pit n Pub – Best Sports Bar Editorial Pick
The value of Best of Ocean City® comes from trust.
When someone wins a Best of Ocean City® award, visitors should know that recognition was earned honestly through the support of customers and fans—not through advertising, sponsorships, or artificial voting.
That trust is something we have spent years building, and it is something we will continue to protect.
Thank You to the Ocean City Community
The overwhelming majority of businesses participate fairly and enthusiastically. Likewise, the overwhelming majority of votes come from genuine supporters who simply want to recognize the businesses they love.
We are grateful to every voter who takes a few minutes each week to participate.
Your votes help visitors discover great businesses, reward exceptional service, and celebrate the people who make Ocean City such a special place.
Because of your participation, Best of Ocean City® remains the most trusted source for identifying the very best of Ocean City, Maryland.

Ocean City is close to hitting the 15,000-donation milestone over the history of both events, and needs just 114 donors at this drive to accomplish that goal. Town of Ocean City Mayor Richard Meehan will present a proclamation commemorating the history of the Ocean City blood drive to BBD at 9 a.m. Thursday, June 4th at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center.
This drive comes at a critical time, as healthcare professionals typically see a rise in serious injuries during the late spring and summer months due to increased travel, outdoor recreation, boating incidents, and holiday activity. At the same time, blood donations often decline because of school breaks, vacations, and holiday schedules, creating added strain on the blood supply during a critical period for patients.
WHEN: Thursday, June 4th from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm
WHERE: Roland E. Powell Convention Center, 4001 Coastal Highway Ocean City, MD 21842
WHO: Blood Donors, Volunteers, Town of Ocean City Mayor Richard Meehan, Blood Bank of Delmarva Representatives
WHY: It only takes one hour to donate, and a single donation can save multiple lives. Roughly one in seven hospital admissions require a blood transfusion. Those in need include: cancer patients, accident, burn, or trauma victims, newborn babies and their mothers, transplant recipients, surgery patients, chronically transfused patients suffering from sickle cell disease or thalassemia, and many more.
To sign up for this blood drive, click here or call 1-888-8-BLOOD-8.
Donors can also visit Be the Reason to view upcoming summer donation opportunities, learn about additional donor promotions, and find convenient locations to donate.

Rainy weekends shouldn’t have you stuck inside your hotel room. In fact, a little drizzle is the perfect excuse to turn your day into a fun food-and-drink crawl through some of Ocean City’s newest and best restaurants.
The Challenge
Order one appetizer and one signature drink at each stop, relax for a bit, then head to the next spot when the rain lets up. From rooftop cocktails to seafood bites and comfort food classics, this “One Drink, One App” tour is a delicious way to spend a gray beach day.
Downtown
WIth a variety of apps and tap beer choices, Crawl Street Tavern is a perfect rainy day crawl choice.
Start your rainy-day crawl at Katamala with a small meze sampler of hummus, babs ghanoush, and saksuka paired with a classy elderflower spritz. The laid-back coastal vibe instantly feels like vacation, even if the skies are gloomy outside.
Next, head downtown to Angler Restaurant for their grouper fingers and a marina mojito while overlooking the marina. The waterfront views somehow make rainy weather feel even more charming.
A short walk away is Crawl Street Tavern, a fun and casual stop just off the Boardwalk. Try the tomato, basil crab soup with grilled cheese app with a cold draft beer or house cocktail while listening to live music and escaping the rain for a while.
Mid Town
Freshly shucked oysters pair perfectly with a rainy day appetizer crawl.
Seafood lovers should definitely make a stop at Blu Crabhouse and Raw Bar for boom boom shrimp or crab hush puppies paired with a spicy bloody mary. It is the kind of spot where you can comfortably linger while the storm rolls by.
For something a little more upscale, Marlin Moon offers $1.50 local oysters or $2.50 specialty oysters alongside handcrafted cocktail, like a pearl and petal lychee martini that feel perfect for a rainy afternoon date night.
If comfort food is calling your name, Longboard Cafe is the move. Their lobster mac and cheese or island frachos paired with a refreshing love potion #9. the perfect balance of fresh and beachy.
Roof Top
Upscale with a view and a menu of tappas, wines, and signature cocktails.
End the night above the city lights at Spain Wine Bar overlooking the bay. Order a shareable appetizer, I recommend the charcuterie board, and a signature smoky old fashion while watching the rain fall over the bayside. Rooftop restaurants somehow make stormy weather feel extra relaxing.
Cheers to Rainy Days
Rain at the beach is temporary, but great food, drinks, and good company can easily turn a gloomy weekend into one of the best memories of your Ocean City trip.
The demolition of the Flagship Oceanfront Hotel on 26th Street began in late April, and now very little remains. As bulldozers moved in and started tearing down the longtime family favorite on the north end of the Boardwalk, an empty space quickly replaced what was once a beloved Ocean City landmark. From its iconic pool bar to the unforgettable whale watching over Jonah and the Whale restaurant, the demolition marks the end of an era. And yes — the legendary all-you-can-eat seafood feasts, complete with snow crab legs, have officially drifted off into the sunset.
The Flagship Oceanfront Hotel was one of those classic Ocean City places that generations of families returned to year after year. Sitting at 26th Street and the Boardwalk, it marked the unofficial “north end” of the traditional Boardwalk experience for decades. Originally built in 1964, the hotel opened during a major growth era for Ocean City, when the resort town was transforming from a small seasonal beach community into one of the East Coast’s biggest vacation destinations.
What made the Flagship memorable wasn’t luxury — it was nostalgia. Families loved the oceanfront pool, the tiki-style pool bar, shuffleboard courts, playground areas, and the easy access to the beach and Boardwalk. Many guests remember spending entire summers there, walking barefoot from the pool to the sand and then back to the room for steamed crabs or pizza on the balcony. The hotel became especially popular with repeat visitors from Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey.
One of the most iconic features was the giant whale statue overlooking Jonah and the Whale restaurant. For many visitors, that whale became a landmark — “meet you by the whale” was a common phrase for decades. The restaurant itself was known for seafood buffets and all-you-can-eat crab legs, a very “old-school Ocean City” tradition that defined beach vacations in the 1970s, ’80s, and ’90s.
The Flagship also represented a different era of Ocean City architecture. Before the rise of towering condos and modern resorts, much of the Boardwalk was lined with simple family-owned motels and hotels that emphasized affordability and long summer stays. The Flagship fit perfectly into that culture — casual, family-oriented, and unapologetically beachy.
Its location on 26th Street was significant because that stretch marked where the “classic” Boardwalk atmosphere began transitioning into midtown Ocean City. In the hotel’s early years, the Boardwalk itself was shorter and quieter than it is today. Over time, Ocean City expanded northward rapidly, especially after the completion of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge in 1952 and the Bay Bridge-Tunnel in 1964, which made travel to the resort dramatically easier.
Ocean City’s Boardwalk itself dates back to 1902, when local hotel owners first built a temporary wooden walkway to keep sand out of their lobbies. The original boards were actually rolled up and stored at the end of each summer. Over the decades, the Boardwalk became the heart of Ocean City tourism, surviving hurricanes, fires, and constant rebuilding. Today it stretches roughly three miles and remains one of the most recognizable boardwalks in America.
The demolition of the Flagship in 2026 feels emotional to longtime visitors because it symbolizes the continuing change of Ocean City. The town has steadily shifted from classic motels and family-run hotels toward larger branded resorts and condominium developments. This property is to be redeveloped into a SpringHill Suites by Marriott.
For many people, though, the Flagship was never just a hotel. It was where kids learned to swim, where families gathered after long beach days, where teenagers hung out at the pool bar, and where generations created traditions that lasted far beyond a single vacation week. Its demolition isn’t just the loss of a building — it’s the fading of a very specific kind of Ocean City memory.
The sunsets are glowing. The waves are crashing. The fishing stories are getting bigger by the day. And once again, Ocean City photographers are proving why this beach town is one of the most photogenic destinations on the East Coast.

Blood for a Brew Campaign Kicks Off with Dogfish Head Blood Drive
DELMARVA REGION – Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD) will launch the 6th annual Blood for a Brew summer campaign on May 19 and is also urging Delmarva residents to donate blood ahead of Memorial Day weekend as hospitals prepare for the start of “trauma season,” a period marked by increased accidents, emergency surgeries, and higher demand for lifesaving blood transfusions.
Healthcare professionals typically see a rise in serious injuries during the late spring and summer months due to increased travel, outdoor recreation, boating incidents, and holiday activity. At the same time, blood donations often decline because of school breaks, vacations, and holiday schedules, creating added strain on the blood supply during a critical period for patients. To help encourage donations during the holiday week, those who come to donate at a BBD donor center or blood drive between Wednesday, May 20th and Wednesday, May 27th will receive a packable picnic blanket to celebrate the unofficial start of summer.
In addition to the summer giveaway, BBD is kicking off its Blood for a Brew campaign with a blood drive on Tuesday, May 19th at Dogfish Head Brewery’s headquarters in Milton, DE. This campaign is critical to raise awareness for the need for blood and to encourage new blood donors to step up and save a life. BBD’s partnership with beloved local breweries and coffee shops helps to alleviate the annual donation shortfall. The Dogfish Head blood drive appointments are full on the May 19 kickoff, but donors can still sign up for the June 2 date as well as other Blood for a Brew drives, HERE.
“Memorial Day marks the beginning of a busy summer full of events while also being one of the most challenging times of year for the blood supply. Our Blood for a Brew campaign launches at the start of the critical, summertime period and makes for a fun and easy way for our community to donate blood.” said Kristin Frederick, Vice President of Operations, Blood Bank of Delmarva. “Trauma patients, surgical patients, cancer patients, and many others rely on blood donations every day, and we need donors to step up before summer shortages impact hospital inventories.”
Consistent donation helps ensure hospitals have blood available when patients need it. We are asking eligible donors to make and keep appointments. One canceled appointment may seem small, but any decline in donor participation can quickly impact local blood availability.
These events serve as the kickoff to BBD’s broader “Be the Reason Summer Feels Brighter” initiative, a seasonal effort focused on maintaining a stable blood supply throughout the challenging summer months through community partnerships, donor appreciation campaigns, special events, and ongoing public awareness efforts. Donors can visit Donate Blood – Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD) to view upcoming summer donation opportunities, learn about additional donor promotions, and find convenient locations to donate.
Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors can give twice per month. In light of recent updates to FDA guidance, more people than ever may now be eligible to give. To view current eligibility guidelines, visit Donor Eligibility – Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD) or call 1-888-8-BLOOD-8.
