About the Artist:
Dover, Delaware native, WesDavis, started playing piano when he was 12 years old. He would spend hours teaching himself on the piano in the family home. Eventually he began playing guitar, while piano remained his preferred instrument. He also developed as a singer.
Though he wrote and performed music constantly from then on, including shows across the US and overseas, it wasn’t until 2005 that he made the decision to make it his full-time profession.
Wes has since performed in venues throughout the region, but has played most often in the Ocean City, Maryland area, covering classic rock hits in some of the the town’s most popular music venues. His original songs have gotten radio play and received enthusiastic response from diverse listeners.
Having become a fan of Elton John’s music from an early age, he’s gotten raves especially for his renditions of those songs, and recently did a live stream tribute to the “Rocket Man.”
Wes continues to stretch himself musically and reach audiences remotely during this time of quarantine, seeking to bring inspiration and enjoyment to many, despite being currently unable to play out in front of live audiences. Having spent years in other professions, he has completely embraced music as a calling, and urges others to remain true to their joys and passions.
Have you ever had your picture taken in front of this Ocean City mural on the Boardwalk at Caroline Street? This enlarged postcard was installed on the Fun City wall as part of the OCDC Public Art program about five years ago and has become a great photo op for visitors. We asked our friends on Facebook to send us their pictures, so here is a collection of their replies and photos they posted. Surprisingly, there were actually quite a few people who had never noticed this wall painting before, so to them we say next time it’s safe to visit the Ocean City Boardwalk, walk around with your head up and eyes peeled as there is always something interesting to see there. Until then, keep Ocean City Dreaming.

The ten mile stretch of exceptionally clean, fine grained, white sandy beach and the sparkling blue, salty, breathtaking ocean are our most valuable assets, the primary reason people travel for hours to visit Ocean City Maryland each year. However, if you ever need a break from the beach, or the weather is not ideal for the beach, or you just want to explore more of the local area, there are plenty of places to visit just a short drive from Ocean City. Small historic towns such as Berlin, America’s Coolest Small Town in 2014, Snow Hill or Pocomoke in Maryland will take you back in time. Wander along the charming streets and visit the museums, unique stores and restaurants these towns have to offer. If you want to get away from the crowds and traffic, spend the day on Assateague Island, Md with the wild ponies and deer, salt marshes, maritime forests, coastal bays and the long stretch of dramatic, mostly deserted beach. Head north into Delaware and explore some of their beach towns including Bethany Beach and Rehoboth Beach, or historic Lewes, the first town in the first state. Staying in Ocean City, you are close enough to visit Chincoteague Island or Wallops Island for the day, and maybe you will be lucky enough to be there when a launch is scheduled. Take advantage of all this unique and unrivaled area has to offer next time you are able to visit our resort, call in to some of the surrounding towns and destinations, and you might just discover something extraordinary. Until then, enjoy Ocean City and its surrounding small towns from your lap top or phone, until it is safe enough to actually be here in person. Keep Ocean City Dreaming.

Can’t Travel to Ocean City But You Can Read About it and SO MUCH MORE
The Worcester County Library is creating content on its social media and website to help throughout our Stay-At-Home order. The library system is giving you access to:
Tutors
How-to videos
Virtual book clubs
Story times
Seclusion Cinema
and more
For parents that are having trouble with helping your student during this virtually learning time, Worcester County Library Card holders have access to a tutoring system through the library. Card holders have access to live tutors from 2pm until 11pm every day, and skill building 24 hours a day. Students can use this on their own, or it can be a family affair. Click here for link.
If you don’t have a library card, here is a link to their online form. A digital card is viable for 90 days. Non-residents can apply for a card as well, the non-resident fee is being waived at this time so a temporary card will be given. When the library opens back up, if a non-resident wants to continue to use the library services they can get a card for a $10 fee.
How-to videos are running the spectrum of difficulty and interests. Recently posted videos taught juggling and series of videos display sewing a teddy bear. If you go through their videos you can find other older posts that teach latin dance and watercolor painting.
They have started a Seclusion Cinema which is asking for all ages to create films on their properties about their quarantine time. Submissions will be taken anytime during the library closing. Here are the guidelines:
-All ages accepted.
-Must be filmed in entirely on the filmmakers’ property, and nowhere else. Maintain social distancing and put no one at risk.
-Entries must be 5 Minutes or less.
-Keep it PG! No profanity, violence, or adult content.
-No copyrighted images, music, effects, or sounds allowed unless with credited permission by the material’s author/creator.
-“Royalty free” images, music, effects, or sounds are allowed.
You can find entertaining educational segments too. A Facebook post showed viewers how quickly objects fall. Like objects and same weight objects were dropped and filmed to see if they would hit the ground at the same time. Afterward the segment suggested googling ‘physics of falling objects’ for more information or activities.
The library’s Facebook feed has suggestions, not just information. One of their posts said gardening can reduce stress, but then offered up the suggestion of listening to a book while gardening to change it up a bit. With the library’s link to Overdrive & Hoopla card holders have access to many digital books.
If reading, listening to books, trying cool experiments, and creating movies are not your bag, the library also has links to Mango a language learning software and Muzzy is language video for kids. Who’s ready to say hello in another language when we all can get together again?
When the Stay-At-Home order lifts you can visit the library system’s buildings here:

SP Industries’ Pocomoke City, MD site is a manufacturing plant and distribution center for its SP Bel-Art and SP Ableware brand products which include research laboratory supplies, biohazard waste disposal products, and bath and safety products for healthcare patients. Many of these products including wash bottles and biohazard waste bags are currently experiencing higher demand as a result of COVID-19. Frontline facilities like hospitals as well as researchers working to better understand the virus and develop testing protocols and potential vaccines need SP products such as those coming from Pocomoke City as well as the company’s other lines which include evaporators, freeze dryers and aseptic fill-finish equipment.
SP Industries, Inc. (SP), is a leading global provider of scientific equipment, labware, and glassware that is used worldwide in research laboratories, production and healthcare. Headquartered in Warminster, Pennsylvania, SP has offices and production facilities in the USA and Europe including a 100,000+ sq. ft. site located on the eastern shore in Pocomoke City, MD. The Pocomoke facility typically employees 150 workers on site, but due to current mandates and precautions the company has enacted remote work, split shifts, and other adjustments to be able to continue work.
We feel privileged to be part of an organization deemed essential as we contribute in some small part towards mitigating the current crisis. We all wish that circumstances were different and we know it will get better, but right now I am just very proud of how our employees have stepped up to embrace the challenge and manage the disruptions affecting both their professional and personal lives. ~ SP CEO, Brian Larkin
The nature of SP’s products and the businesses and institutions that rely on them for their work have made SP an important partner and essential business in our current international health crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic.
SP President and CEO Brian Larkin says that “we feel privileged to be part of an organization deemed essential as we contribute in some small part towards mitigating the current crisis. We all wish that circumstances were different and we know it will get better, but right now I am just very proud of how our employees have stepped up to embrace the challenge and manage the disruptions affecting both their professional and personal lives.”

Ocean City, Maryland – (April 10, 2020): With the holiday weekend upon us, Ocean City officials urge that now is not the time to travel to the resort community. Maryland, along with several surround states, remain under a Stay-At-Home order. In addition, Ocean City’s beach, Boardwalk and Inlet Parking Lot remain closed.
“We are facing the greatest health challenge of our lifetime and all of us will need to make sacrifices to stop the spread of this virus,” Meehan stated. “It is not going to be easy to spend this weekend away from family and friends but we must continue to do our part and rise to this challenge. Social distancing is making a difference and if we continue to work together, we will get through this together.”
Ocean City hotels are working closely with the Town of Ocean City and those few that remain open are only accommodating essential lodgers. Officials are also reminding property owners that the emergency declaration signed on March 31, restricts short term accommodations for rentals to essential lodgers only through April 30, 2020. This includes but is not limited to condo-hotels, rental properties, inclusive of private renters or management companies and HOAs, Airbnb, VRBO style lodging and other overnight accommodations.
“Although it remains unsafe to gather for holiday celebrations, we hope families find ways to connect virtually,” Meehan finished. “Together, as a community and a country, we need to give strength and comfort to one another. This weekend, as we celebrate Passover and the Easter holiday, remember to be kind, be compassionate and choose community over covid-19 by staying healthy and staying home.”
If you are experiencing possible COVID-19 symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath) contact your primary care doctor for further screening to determine if you should be tested. Unless you are suffering a medical emergency, please do not show up unannounced at an emergency room or other medical facility. You should speak with your healthcare provider, who can alert an emergency room so that its staff is ready with proper protective gear. To protect yourselves and others, wash your hands often, cover cough/sneezes, clean and disinfect surfaces, and stay home if sick. For more information on Coronavirus and prevention tips, visit WorcesterHealth.org or call 410-632-1100 option #8 to connect to our call center (Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm). For COVID-19 information in the State of Maryland, please dial 211.
Do you have a great pic of your family enjoying Ocean City? Did the ‘SCOPES’ crew help you capture that image? Do you always take photos of your Ocean City vacation? During these uncertain times, Telescope Pictures wants you to look back and remember your favorite memories while vacationing in Ocean City, Maryland. The Governor of Maryland said, “Be A Hero Stay Home” and Telescope Pictures wants to reward those heroes and help them have some fun at home too.
“Photos create emotion,” says Jon Cameron, co-owner of Telescopes Pictures. Jon told OceanCity.com he and his wife, Sam, also a co-owner, were flipping through social media and felt inspired to try and do “our part.” Telescopes Pictures saw many companies helping with food drives, kids’ lunches, and other kind gestures, they just wanted to spread a little joy and help people recapture Ocean City memories. They hope this challenge and the free gift can do that. “Hopefully, [this challenge] can give people that special moment in the living room they would normally have at the beach.” Jon says it can be tough to get the family together for a family photo and since everyone is stuck in the house together already, why not have some fun. “Ocean City is such a special place to so many people, and were one of those businesses that have the opportunity for years and years to take those awesome, special memories on the beach. We love our customers so much. This place is like a second home to so many people, and I think a lot of people worry about when they can make it back here. We want them to know we miss our customers, employees, and beaches and we want to give them some hope.”

You have a great pic of you and the family on the beach with the surf boards you rented for the day. Why not draw the surfer boards on paper to scale or not and have everyone pose the same as before. (Don’t forget the board shorts and sunscreen.)

Jon and Sam’s History with Scopes
Telescopes Pictures has been snapping away on Ocean City’s beaches for decades. This summer will be its 71st summer in Ocean City. Telescopes Pictures has 5 locations in Ocean City with one inside of Seacrets. A scopes crew member can be easily found fashioned in their iconic blue shorts. Jon and Sam Cameron both started out in those blue shorts, one on the beach and one in Seacrets.
In 2001, Jon Cameron found himself in need of summer job, while attending college at Shippensburg University. Jon was leafing through his college paper when he came across an ad that caught his attention. “A Picture popped out of a lot of tan and seemed to be athletic people, college students. It said ‘Work and live at the beach. Make $10,000 dollars. Be shirtless. Meet chicks. Have the summer of a lifetime. Call 1-800-telescopes‘ or something similar to that. So of course I called immediately. It was a recording that said ‘Congratulations, you are gonna have the best time living in Ocean City Maryland this summer. Leave your name, your dorm room number, your school, and when your last day of exams is, and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Congratulations and have a great day.” When Jon told his dad about his opportunity, Jon’s dad was not as optimistic about Jon’s new venture and told him he should make plans to come home for the summer. None of Jon’s family had ever heard of Telescope Pictures, Jon included. They had never been to Ocean City, Maryland, so all this did not add up for Jon’s dad. Still feeling as though he had found a chance to live at the beach and get paid to do it, Jon did not heed his dad’s warning. Jon was called a few days later from Ocean City Telescope with a date and time to meet for what he would later figure out to be a try-out for what he thought was a sure thing job. With many other students applying for a job Jon had no experience at, Jon was brought back after the weekend was over for the unfortunate news that he was not chosen. “I froze up. I’ve never been told I couldn’t do something that I wanted to do. I couldn’t go home and tell my dad I didn’t make the key chain team. So I just stood there. I really couldn’t leave because I made it there on my last tank of gas. I made it very awkward for this management team, and I didn’t leave. They basically were telling me, ‘To go, leave, go home, now.’ I told them I couldn’t go home, because I would get in trouble. ‘I didn’t make the team. That’s not gonna make sense to my dad.'” So management looked at one another and said maybe they could find something for Jon for a few days, and then he never left. One job they needed help with ran into another job and then the following weekend there was another tryout and Jon made it. That was 2001, in 2004 Jon was the manager of a single location. In 2007 he was the manager of multiple locations and here we are in 2020 and Jon and is wife have been the co-owners since 2019. Under the new ownership, Telescope Pictures is re-establishing their presences on Ocean City’s boardwalk. The new location is on 4th St on the Boardwalk. Telescope Pictures hasn’t been on the boards since 1998.
Rosie getting her classic Telescope Pictures portrait on the beach!
Sam Cameron’s genesis to becoming an owner of Telescope Pictures differs from Jon’s due to her growing up with a home in Ocean City. Sam spent her summers in Ocean City. Sam’s parents patronized Telescope Pictures often, and they actually have pictures of Sam as young as 2 years old with Telescope images. When Sam told her parents of her opportunity to work for Telescope Pictures at their Seacrets location, unlike Jon’s dad’s reaction, Sam and her parents didn’t think it was something shady. “Sam’s parents are our traditional, Telescope, Dumser’s, Fisher’s Popcorn, Ocean City family. They gave the Scopers water, watermelons, and treats,” Jon told us. Sam enjoyed her time at Seacrets taking photos, but didn’t come back after her summer of 2010, well not right away anyway. Jon told us in 2015 he took a call from Sam asking if she could get her job back at Seacrets, because it was the only job she ever loved. Jon being her manager then and still the manager at the time of the call, remembered her being an awesome crew member and her images were great. He was happy to have her back.
Telescope Pictures Caring for Our Region
Knowing Jon and Sam are married, it easy to put the following pieces of this puzzle together. They fell in love, got married in 2018, and took over the business in 2019. They are the very proud parents of an adorable cock-a-poo, named Rosie. Jon & Sam’s passion for their company, Ocean City, their employees, and clients is evident. This challenge isn’t the first time the Camerons have given to spread kindness and love. Last year, Telescope Pictures asked customers if they wanted to donate the change from their transaction to charity. A different charity was chosen each month during the shoulder and summer season and whatever the spare change was Jon & Sam matched it.
Charities donated to:
PMRC
Atlantic General Hospital
Ocean City Downtown Corporation
Humane Society of Worcester County
Big Brother Big Sister
Photography Business Changed and So Did Telescope Pictures
The Camerons want to make sure Scopers are focused on putting ‘Feeling Back in the Photo.’ “It can be rough out there when you ask someone if they want their picture taken and they say, ‘Why, I have a phone?’ We had to change how we did business. We had to slow things down and made sure we were more personal. Our customers and our employee’s time with us is valuable. Our management team, Charlie and Tim, are vital to our success. We treat everyone like family, we want them to know that without them there isn’t a business. We make sure we create experiences that mean something to all of them. We make sure our Scopers spend extra time with our customers so they can capture images better than a phone and mom & dad can be in the picture. We have special events for our employees throughout the summer to show our appreciation.”
This Telescope Pictures challenge is just another way the Camerons and Telescope Pictures are changing things up to give everyone a great experience. “We want to show our love and appreciation for our customers, the town of Ocean City, and our staff. Sam and I are excited to see how people participate. We can’t wait to see the creativity.”

The almost 3 mile long Ocean City Boardwalk is the perfect place to go for a walk or a bike ride, never failing to entertain. From 1900, there has been some form of Boardwalk in Ocean City. The original Boardwalk was lifted at the end of every summer, and, like the boogie boards and beach towels of today, put away until needed the following year. By 1910, the Boardwalk was permanent, running just five blocks but expanding to 15th street by the 1920’s. Visitors continued to enjoy the Boards through the following decades, and in the ’40’s and ’50’s, dressing up to promenade along the narrow boards was something of a tradition. On hot days, it was possible to sit underneath the raised Boardwalk to shelter from the sun, and many a local child would spend their evenings looking for lost change at the end of the day, under the Boardwalk. The Boardwalk fell victim to the great storm of 1962, but it was rebuilt to the Boardwalk we recognize today, which now ends at 27th Street.
When you take a walk or a seat on the Boardwalk to people watch, and you will be continually captivated by the array of personalities streaming past you. The sights, smells and sounds you encounter will stay with you for life. The experience you have on the Ocean City Boardwalk can change depending on the time of day or the time of year, but no matter which season, or whether it’s morning, noon or night, it is sure to be a delightfully enjoyable and entertaining time. Take a Walk on the Boardwalk with us from your laptop or phone, until it is safe to do so in reality. Be a hero, stay home and enjoy Ocean City from your living room.

Whether you have been a loyal attendee throughout the last 29 years or planned to attend Cruisin Ocean City for the first time, we know how special this event is for automotive enthusiasts. We welcome participants and visitors from all over the region with many as far away as Florida, Colorado and Canada . Given all that is going on around us, we cannot in good conscience risk the health and well-being of our participants, sponsors, spectators, vendors, entertainment, staff, as well as the Ocean City community.
After careful deliberation, and in following the latest mandates and recommendations from national, state and local authorities, we are sad to announce we are postponing Cruisin Ocean City until May 20-23, 2021.
All pre-registered Cruisin Ocean City 2020 participants and spectators will have their registration/tickets automatically transferred to the 2021 event. However, if you would prefer you can have your registration/tickets transferred to the Endless Summer Cruisin event, planned for, October 8-11, 2020. To do so please call or email our office at 410-798-6304or infoevent@specialeventpro.com.
