Photo Friday Contest Winner July 3rd 2025

This was our first Photo Friday contest of 2025, and although some days the weather has been much to be desired so far this summer, visitors still got out and about enjoying the town and all it has to offer, even on a less than perfect beach day. We saw people playing mini golf, and at the arcade, we saw folk riding go karts, and walking the boards, the ponies on Assateague don’t mind the weather, and there’s always a view, no matter how many clouds are in the sky. Sit back and enjoy some of this weeks photos from our Photo Friday contest, and get ready to submit your own photos in next week’s contest.

This week’s randomly selected winner of 2 FREE $25 gift cards to Baja Amusements is Brooke Robins for this stunning photo of the sunset at Northside Park. Congratulations Brooke!

  • Violators parked in restricted areas may be towed to the Ocean City Police Impound Lot (6501 Coastal Highway)

Tips for a Smooth July 4th in Ocean City

  • Arrive early to secure parking and avoid congestion

  • Be aware of increased pedestrian traffic in all event areas

  • If parked at the Inlet Lot, avoid exiting via 1st Street after the fireworks

    • Instead, go north on Baltimore Avenue

    • Use 9th Street or 15th Street to access Philadelphia Avenue and Route 50

    • Or continue to 33rd Street to take Route 90 westbound out of town

Weather Contingency

In case of inclement weather, both fireworks shows will be postponed to Saturday, July 5, 2025. All parking restrictions, transit services, and traffic plans will remain the same.

Final Reminders

July 4th in Ocean City is one of the busiest days of the year. Whether you’re headed to Northside Park or Caroline Street, plan ahead, expect delays, and allow plenty of extra time to enjoy the festivities.

By arriving early, staying patient, and following all posted parking and traffic signs, you can help make this Independence Day safe, fun, and unforgettable.

Discover Overholt: A Hidden Ocean City Speakeasy Experience Inside Dry 85

OVERHOLT SPEAKEASY AT DRY 85
A simple door leads to the new speakeasy at Dry 85, Overholt.

Step Inside Overholt Speakeasy: Intimacy and Indulgence in Ocean City, MD

Tucked behind a discreet sign just off Coastal Highway in Ocean City lies a quiet culinary haven: Overholt, the speakeasy-style hideaway inside Dry 85. With low lighting, a hushed atmosphere, and a name steeped in American whiskey heritage, Overholt offers a refined escape for those who want to dine and drink well—away from the crowds but still in the heart of the action.

A Toast to Tradition: The Overholt Legacy

overholt at Dry 85

The name Overholt is a nod to one of America’s oldest whiskey families, the Oberhotzers headed by patriarch Henry. German immigrants who settled in Bucks County before moving to Overton, later West Overton, Pennsylvania in 1800, the Overholts (anglicized) helped pioneer rye whiskey in the U.S. today.  They came from a region in Germany known for distilling “korn,” or rye whiskey, a tradition Henry continued in America. The name captures the spirit of craftsmanship and authenticity and that legacy lives on in every glass poured here—Old Overholt Rye is the foundation of Dry 85’s house Old Fashioned, a cocktail lauded as one of the best in Maryland. Although no longer distilled in Pennsylvania and with a higher corn content to more closely resemble bourbon, Old Overholt Rye is “America’s oldest continually maintained brand of whiskey.

An Intimate Escape Inside Dry 85

Created by Brian Bolter, Owner and Beverage Director of Dry 85, Overholt was designed as a quieter refuge within the energetic dining scene. “It’s a low slung, quieter vibe for diners and drinkers alike,” Bolter says. “A tucked away spot to relax from a hectic day, enjoying some of the best gourmet comfort food around.”

While Dry 85 is known for its lively, modern bourbon bar atmosphere, Overholt offers the same full food and drink menu in a more serene setting. It’s perfect for guests looking to connect over a well-crafted cocktail without the usual bar bustle.

A Menu Worth Whispering About

charcuterie board at dry 85

Overholt doesn’t rely on exclusivity alone—it delivers with a full menu that balances indulgence and innovation. You can build your own charcuterie board from selections like wild boar and pork belly salami, mozzarella-stuffed prosciutto, and spicy chorizo, or start with crispy Brussels sprouts, fried green tomatoes with Chesapeake beurre blanc, or spicy street corn tots laced with jalapeño, queso fresco, and avocado crema.

specialty margarita at Overholt Speakeasy

Signature entrées include pork ossobuco served in a cast iron skillet with scalloped potatoes, shrimp and grits smothered in house-made bacon mushroom sauce, and fall-off-the-bone pork ribs finished with a blueberry glaze. The Dry85 burger, stacked with pulled pork, bacon, and slaw, brings smoky depth, while the crab cake sandwichdelivers a taste of the coast with tropical aioli.

And if you’re feeling celebratory? Go all in on the cheeky indulgence of “Champagne and Fries”—Veuve Clicquot paired with truffle-salted hand-cut fries. Because why not?

Getting In: No Code, Just Good Taste

more great drinks at the overholt speakeasy inside dry 85

You don’t need a secret knock or password to access Overholt. Just ask to be seated there when making an online reservation, or let the host know when you arrive at Dry85. The speakeasy is open Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 p.m. to close, and while reservations are recommended, walk-ins are welcomed as space allows.

A private entrance is available for private events, which are growing in popularity for bachelor and bachelorette parties, rehearsal dinners, and corporate gatherings. To book, guests can reach out to info@dry85.com.

A Favorite New Discovery

burger at dry 85 and overholt speakeasy

There’s no live music, secret menu, or over-the-top theatrics—just the timeless pleasure of good food, great cocktails, and a space that lets you slow down and enjoy both. “Diners love it,” Bolter shares, “and the private event crowd is discovering their new favorite space.”

For those looking to experience Dry85 in a new way—or for newcomers wanting a laid-back but elevated dining experience—Overholt offers the best of both worlds: full-throttle flavor in a setting that whispers rather than shouts.

Welcome Back, Summer: Ocean City, Maryland Is Ready For You

0

After 13 consecutive rainy weekends, Ocean City, Maryland is finally drying off and heating up — and not a moment too soon. The early start to summer 2025 was nothing short of a washout, quite literally. Rainclouds rolled in weekend after weekend, canceling beach plans, delaying events, and even shutting down one of the city’s biggest annual attractions: the Ocean City Air Show.

Michele Cirillo – Rainy Days in Ocean City, Maryland are no more!

For many, the soggy start put a damper on the excitement of summer, especially after a winter that refused to let go, with multiple snow days extending the school year well into June. But now, school is finally out, the sun is out, and Summer — with a capital S — is making a dramatic entrance.

And she’s hotter than ever.

Temperatures into the High 90s

Ocean CIty weather
Beautiful weather is coming our way, courtesy of Summer!

This week, forecasters are calling for temperatures to soar into the upper 90s, with some days flirting with 100 degrees. It’s the kind of heat that demands flip-flops, frozen drinks, and long afternoons by the water. Luckily, the ocean is still cool and refreshing, offering the perfect relief for beachgoers eager to beat the heat.

Like Alice Cooper Say: “School’s Out for Summer”

ocean city maryland
Beachgoers can finally relax in the sand while listening to the ocean waves.

Families are trading in their backpacks and pencils for beach toys, coolers packed with sandwiches and drinks, and umbrellas big enough to shade an entire crew. The boardwalk is buzzing once again with the sounds of laughter, roller coasters, and waves crashing in the distance. The long-awaited return of sunshine has flipped a switch in the town’s energy — summer isn’t just back, it’s booming.

Restaurant Summer Specials

the angler ocean city maryland
The Angler offers two-for-one drinks every day during their 3-6pm Happy Hour- and it’s on the water with a sunset view.

Two Rescued Sea Turtles Released in Ocean City, Maryland

On the morning of Thursday, June 19, the beach at 40th Street in Ocean City, Maryland became the heartwarming site of a joyful homecoming. Two Kemp’s ridley sea turtles, affectionately named Mothman and Icky, were released back into the ocean after months of intensive rehabilitation at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. The release, attended by Mayor Rick Meehan and around 100 spectators, was a celebratory milestone for both the turtles and the dedicated team that helped them recover.

An East Coast Story

National Aquarium, Ocean City, Maryland, Sea Turtles
Aquarium staff transport the sea turtles towards the beach.

Mothman and Icky, both between 3 and 5 years old, were victims of a phenomenon known as cold-stunning—a condition similar to hypothermia in reptiles, caused by prolonged exposure to cold water temperatures. Mothman was found in Dundalk, Maryland, while Icky was a transferred patient from the New England Aquarium. In both cases, the turtles were unresponsive and in shock when they arrived at the National Aquarium’s Animal Rescue facility in Baltimore.

Cold Stunned

National Aquarium, Ocean City, Maryland, Sea Turtles
Mayor Rick Meehan and aquarium workers show off Mothman on his way to the waters edge.

Cold-stunned turtles require extensive care, including rehydration, gradual warming, nutritional support, and close medical monitoring. The National Aquarium is well-equipped for such efforts, rehabilitating an average of 75 turtles each year. Its state-of-the-art facility includes pools where water temperature can be carefully adjusted to match the needs of recovering patients, helping them regain strength and return to a healthy lifestyle.

Ocean City Loves Their Sea Life

National Aquarium, Ocean City, Maryland, Sea Turtles
Icky was released first onto the sand and was gently scooped away with the waves as crowds cheered him on.

While Ocean City does have a small rehabilitation center near the uptown police station, it’s mainly designed for seals and used as a quick triage point for sea turtles in need before they are transferred to larger facilities like Baltimore. During their treatment, both Mothman and Icky showed resilience and adaptability. Like many sea turtles, they can remain out of the water for up to 24 hours if necessary, which proved useful during parts of their care and transport.

Drawing a Crowd

National Aquarium, Ocean City, Maryland, Sea Turtles
Beachgoers were excited to see these turtles up close and personal.

The release event drew in families, beachgoers, and turtle lovers alike. Children gathered around the turtles with wide eyes and eager questions as National Aquarium staff introduced Mothman and Icky to the crowd. The staff took time to answer questions and explain the journey of rehabilitation, turning the moment into both a celebration and an educational experience.

Mayor Meehan- the Cheerleader

National Aquarium, Ocean City, Maryland, Sea Turtles
An encouraging Mayor Meehan pointed the way to the water. We think Mothman was just saying thank you.

As the time came for the turtles to return to their ocean home, Icky wasted no time, racing toward the waves with enthusiasm. Mothman, however, had a brief change of heart, turning back toward the beach. Mayor Meehan, ever the supportive cheerleader, waved and encouraged the hesitant turtle. In a touching moment, Mothman paused, then turned again—this time sprinting toward the surf, where the waves gently carried him back to the sea.

Their story is a testament to the importance of marine wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts. Thanks to the collaboration between the National Aquarium, Ocean City officials, and other regional partners, Mothman and Icky have a second chance at life in the wild—a fitting ending to one chapter and the beginning of another beneath the waves.

Maryland Producer Cold Storage Grant Program Assists Farmers and Watermen with the Purchase of Needed Cold Storage Equipment

“Following last year’s success in helping agribusinesses and commercial seafood businesses with access to adequate cold storage, we are happy to offer this program again. All applicants should expect to purchase or order equipment by September 30, 2025. Funding is limited and applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis. Funds will

MARBIDCO was established by the Maryland General Assembly more than 18 years ago to help enhance the sustainability and profitability of the State’s agricultural and resource-based industries in order to help bolster rural economies, support locally produced food and fiber products, and preserve working farm and forest land. MARBIDCO is a nimble, quasi-governmental financial intermediary organization that has a mission to serve exclusively the commercial farming, forestry, and seafood industries of Maryland. Young and beginning farmers are a special focus for MARBIDCO, as is farm operation diversification. In delivering its financing programs, MARBIDCO works cooperatively with commercial banks and farm credit associations, as well as a host of federal, State, regional, and local government agencies, and universities. Since 2007, MARBIDCO has approved some 1,459 financings totaling over $116.5 million for food and fiber business projects located in all of Maryland’s 24 counties – and in the process has leveraged more than $237 million in commercial lender financing. Mother Nature Had Other Plans: Rain Cancels Ocean City Air Show Weekend

OCEAN CITY, MD – The annual Ocean City Air Show, a much-anticipated event that draws thousands of visitors each year, hit unexpected turbulence this weekend—not from the skies, but from the weather. Despite eager crowds and high expectations, Mother Nature had different plans. Rain, persistent cloud cover, and a low ceiling forced organizers to cancel the weekend’s main performances, including the highly anticipated Blue Angels showcase.

Safety First

Air Show Ocean City, Maryland 2025
Visitors lined up along the boardwalk, hotel balconies, and seawall to watch this weekend’s show.

The disappointment was palpable across the resort town.  Sunday was set to be the grand finale of the Air Show, a celebration of aviation, patriotism, and summer fun. However, gray skies and unsafe flying conditions left performers grounded. The Federal Aviation Administration requires a minimum cloud ceiling of 2,000 feet for the jets to fly safely; this weekend, it barely reached 600.

Delays Lead to Cancellations

Air Show Ocean City, Maryland 2025
People huddled under umbrellas and towels to protect from the downpours along the beach.

Visitors had traveled from miles around to catch a glimpse of the U.S. Navy’s elite Blue Angels and other thrilling aerobatic displays. Instead, they found themselves waiting in vain as delay after delay gave way to official cancellations.

Sad, Mad, and All the In Between

Some air show patrons took the news in stride. “Safety should always come first,” said one visitor huddled under an umbrella on the packed boardwalk. “No air show is worth risking lives.” Many spectators stayed put, hoping for a break in the weather. They wrapped themselves in towels and ponchos, braving the wind and drizzle in an attempt to hold their place and keep the spirit alive.

Others, however, weren’t so understanding. With rising costs of travel, hotel rooms, and dining, many voiced frustration over the cancellations. “We drove three hours, spent hundreds of dollars, and barely saw a plane,” said a disappointed day-tripper. “It’s hard not to feel let down.”

Day visitors in particular expressed frustration, having come in for just one day and leaving without seeing any aerial displays. “It’s just our luck,” one family said. “This was supposed to be the highlight of our summer.”

A Silver Lining in the Low Clouds

Still, the show wasn’t entirely a wash. Organizers scrambled to provide alternate experiences. One silver lining came when several pilots took to the front stage at 17th Street for interviews, autographs, and photo opportunities. For many fans, the chance to meet the aviators face-to-face helped soften the disappointment.

East Coast Wash Out

Air Show Ocean City, Maryland 2025
After the cancellations Saturday and Sunday, traffic steadily streamed out of Ocean City along the Route 50 Bridge.

And it’s not just Ocean City feeling the wrath of the skies this season. Al Roker of NBC’s Today Show recently noted that the last 13 to 15 weekends have been near-total washouts across the East Coast, with steady rain disrupting events large and small.

Hopeful for Next Year

In the end, the skies refused to clear, and the jets stayed silent. While the weather proved to be the ultimate air show headliner—stealing the spotlight and grounding the thrills—Ocean City remains hopeful for clearer skies next year. Until then, patrons are left with wet towels, soggy shoes, and a memory of what could have been.

Safety Reminders

To help everyone stay safe and enjoy the weekend, we encourage all attendees to follow simple but essential safety tips. If you’re walking, remember to Walk Smart: cross only at marked crosswalks, stay alert, obey all traffic signals, and use sidewalks instead of crossing mid-block. Always make eye contact with drivers before stepping into the street.

Drivers, please Drive Smart. Stop for all pedestrians in crosswalks—it’s Maryland law. Slow down, especially when turning, and stay focused by avoiding texting or using handheld devices while driving. Be extra mindful of people riding bicycles or scooters, and do not drive in designated bike or bus lanes.

If you’re riding a bicycle or scooter, be sure to wear a helmet, follow the flow of traffic, and obey all traffic signs and signals. Use bike lanes where available, and always stay visible to drivers, especially at intersections.

Whether you’re on foot, behind the wheel, or on two wheels, remember that safety is everyone’s responsibility. Staying alert and following the rules of the road will not only make this Air Show weekend safe but also ensure that everyone can enjoy the event without any worries.

Let’s work together to ensure the 2025 O.C. Air Show is safe and enjoyable for all. Arrive early, plan to stay late, and enjoy everything Ocean City has to offer.

Ocean City Air Show Returns for Its 18th Thrilling Year June 14–15, 2025

Ocean City, Maryland is set to roar to life once again with the return of the 18th Annual Air Dot Show Ocean City, taking to the skies on June 14 and 15, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This beloved summer tradition, which began in 2008, continues to dazzle beachgoers and aviation fans alike with jaw-dropping aerial performances and patriotic displays that capture the spirit of the season.

The Famous Blue Angels

air show ocean city 2025
Members of the the US Navy prepare to wow the crowds with precise maneuvers.

This year’s event will be headlined by none other than the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, one of the most iconic and popular flight demonstration teams in the world. Their thrilling formations, tight maneuvers, and thunderous jet engines never fail to wow the crowds—and if past years are any indication, their presence is sure to draw thousands.

Planes That Serve a Purpose

air show ocean city 2025
A-10 Thunderbolts II CAS is one of the military planes that will shake, rattle, and rock the sand June 14-15.

Joining the Blue Angels in this year’s lineup are other military marvels, including the F-16 Viper Demo Team, the E/A-18 Growler Team, A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, and the West Point Parachute Team. These aircraft aren’t just flashy—they serve and protect our country every day, making their performances both breathtaking and meaningful.

The Epicenter of the Show

air show ocean city 2025
The West Point Parachute Team is scheduled to take on Ocean City, Maryland this weekend.

The aerial action will be best viewed from anywhere along the Ocean City boardwalk and beach, especially between 14th Street and 17th Street, where the show’s center point is focused. And for those lucky enough to be on a boat in the bay—yes, you’ll absolutely be able to catch the show from the water.

This year, the show returns to its traditional June time slot, after a brief departure last year. “This is the typical time frame for the show,” say organizers. “Last year was an exception to the rule.”

While Ocean City visitors can count on sunny skies, there’s always the chance of weather disruptions. Organizers note that tickets are non-refundable, but if the event is canceled entirely due to conditions outside their control, they may offer accommodations for next year or discounted admission. Still, the show usually goes on—even if slightly modified. Note: Tickets are only needed if beachgoers want to sit at the center of the show. As mentioned earlier, the show can be seen all along the beaches and boardwalk.

The Need for Speed

air show ocean city 2025
Coming in the a landing, The Blue Angels are always a top crowd pleaser.

And what exactly can fans expect? High-speed passes, loops, rolls, and thunderous fly-bys that shake the sand. Many of these aircraft have become famous not just for their missions but also their appearance in movies and around the world. While the show doesn’t require pilots to apply, booking performers is a strategic effort made years in advance to align with tour schedules.

Fans might even catch a glimpse—or selfie—with a pilot or parachutist, as performers will be walking the boardwalk and mingling with fans throughout the weekend. For families, this up-close access is part of what makes the event so uniquely engaging.

An Annual Summer Kick-Off

As part of the 2025 Air Dot Show Tour, which also visits cities like Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, and Augusta, the Ocean City event continues to be a patriotic and family-friendly way to kick off the summer season. Here’s a clip of our interview with Major Kristin “Beo” Wolf from the 2023 Air Show.

Looking for Accommodations?

One final tip: While organizers don’t have info on hotel discounts, it’s worth checking with nearby oceanfront accommodations—because nothing beats a room with a view when the sky becomes the stage.
