German immigrants who settled in Bucks County before moving to Overton, later West Overton, Pennsylvania in 1800, the Overholts (anglicized) helped pioneer rye whiskey in the U.S. today. They came from a region in Germany known for distilling “korn,” or rye whiskey, a tradition Henry continued in America. The name captures the spirit of craftsmanship and authenticity and that legacy lives on in every glass poured here—Old Overholt Rye is the foundation of Dry 85’s house Old Fashioned, a cocktail lauded as one of the best in Maryland. Although no longer distilled in Pennsylvania and with a higher corn content to more closely resemble bourbon, Old Overholt Rye is “America’s oldest continually maintained brand of whiskey.“

After 13 consecutive rainy weekends, Ocean City, Maryland is finally drying off and heating up — and not a moment too soon. The early start to summer 2025 was nothing short of a washout, quite literally. Rainclouds rolled in weekend after weekend, canceling beach plans, delaying events, and even shutting down one of the city’s biggest annual attractions: the Ocean City Air Show.

For many, the soggy start put a damper on the excitement of summer, especially after a winter that refused to let go, with multiple snow days extending the school year well into June. But now, school is finally out, the sun is out, and Summer — with a capital S — is making a dramatic entrance.

Temperatures into the High 90s

This week, forecasters are calling for temperatures to soar into the upper 90s, with some days flirting with 100 degrees. It’s the kind of heat that demands flip-flops, frozen drinks, and long afternoons by the water. Luckily, the ocean is still cool and refreshing, offering the perfect relief for beachgoers eager to beat the heat.

Beachgoers can finally relax in the sand while listening to the ocean waves.
Families are trading in their backpacks and pencils for beach toys, coolers packed with sandwiches and drinks, and umbrellas big enough to shade an entire crew. The boardwalk is buzzing once again with the sounds of laughter, roller coasters, and waves crashing in the distance. The long-awaited return of sunshine has flipped a switch in the town’s energy — summer isn’t just back, it’s booming.
Restaurant Summer Specials
The Angler offers two-for-one drinks every day during their 3-6pm Happy Hour- and it’s on the water with a sunset view.
Local businesses are embracing the seasonal comeback with open arms. Restaurants and bars are pulling out all the stops to welcome the crowds. Guido’s Burritos is back with its popular Taco Tuesday deal — 25% off your entire bill every Tuesday at both their Boardwalk and Coastal Highway locations. The Angler is keeping spirits high with two-for-one drinks every day during their happy hour (3-6pm), and The Shrimp Boat is drawing in seafood lovers with its all-you-can-eat shrimp special.
We’re Not Just a Beach
New pickleball and basketball courts are calling athletes of all ages.
It’s not just food and drink that are adding to the fun. Ocean City’s 4th Street Park just unveiled brand-new pickleball and basketball courts, giving locals and visitors even more ways to stay active between trips to the beach and bites of Thrashers fries.

Welcome back, Summer — we missed you. Now, let’s make up for lost time.
On the morning of Thursday, June 19, the beach at 40th Street in Ocean City, Maryland became the heartwarming site of a joyful homecoming. Two Kemp’s ridley sea turtles, affectionately named Mothman and Icky, were released back into the ocean after months of intensive rehabilitation at the National Aquarium in Baltimore. The release, attended by Mayor Rick Meehan and around 100 spectators, was a celebratory milestone for both the turtles and the dedicated team that helped them recover.
An East Coast Story

Mothman and Icky, both between 3 and 5 years old, were victims of a phenomenon known as cold-stunning—a condition similar to hypothermia in reptiles, caused by prolonged exposure to cold water temperatures. Mothman was found in Dundalk, Maryland, while Icky was a transferred patient from the New England Aquarium. In both cases, the turtles were unresponsive and in shock when they arrived at the National Aquarium’s Animal Rescue facility in Baltimore.

Cold-stunned turtles require extensive care, including rehydration, gradual warming, nutritional support, and close medical monitoring. The National Aquarium is well-equipped for such efforts, rehabilitating an average of 75 turtles each year. Its state-of-the-art facility includes pools where water temperature can be carefully adjusted to match the needs of recovering patients, helping them regain strength and return to a healthy lifestyle.
Ocean City Loves Their Sea Life
Icky was released first onto the sand and was gently scooped away with the waves as crowds cheered him on.
While Ocean City does have a small rehabilitation center near the uptown police station, it’s mainly designed for seals and used as a quick triage point for sea turtles in need before they are transferred to larger facilities like Baltimore. During their treatment, both Mothman and Icky showed resilience and adaptability. Like many sea turtles, they can remain out of the water for up to 24 hours if necessary, which proved useful during parts of their care and transport.

The release event drew in families, beachgoers, and turtle lovers alike. Children gathered around the turtles with wide eyes and eager questions as National Aquarium staff introduced Mothman and Icky to the crowd. The staff took time to answer questions and explain the journey of rehabilitation, turning the moment into both a celebration and an educational experience.

An encouraging Mayor Meehan pointed the way to the water. We think Mothman was just saying thank you.
As the time came for the turtles to return to their ocean home, Icky wasted no time, racing toward the waves with enthusiasm. Mothman, however, had a brief change of heart, turning back toward the beach. Mayor Meehan, ever the supportive cheerleader, waved and encouraged the hesitant turtle. In a touching moment, Mothman paused, then turned again—this time sprinting toward the surf, where the waves gently carried him back to the sea.
Their story is a testament to the importance of marine wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts. Thanks to the collaboration between the National Aquarium, Ocean City officials, and other regional partners, Mothman and Icky have a second chance at life in the wild—a fitting ending to one chapter and the beginning of another beneath the waves.
Annapolis (June 16,2025) – The Maryland Agricultural and Resource-Based Industry Development Corporation (MARBIDCO) has announced it is once again offering its popular Maryland Producer Cold Storage Grant Program to help farmers and watermen purchase necessary cold storage equipment for their operations.
MARBIDCO will match up to 50% of the cost of the project purchase, with a maximum grant awardamount of $2,000. The minimum grant award is $500 (meaning therefore, the minimum project orequipment purchase size is $1,000).
“Following last year’s success in helping agribusinesses and commercial seafood businesses with access to adequate cold storage, we are happy to offer this program again. Cold storage is frequently cited as a need, especially by smaller farm operations, so hopefully the availability of these grant funds will incentivize cold storage equipment purchases by food producing enterprises,” said MARBIDCO Executive Director, Steve McHenry.
Eligible applicants include farmers and watermen with at least $1,000 in agricultural or seafood productsales in calendar years 2024 or 2025. The eligible applicants can include sole proprietorships, partnerships, cooperatives, and LLCs. Agricultural products include produce, livestock, shellfish, or horticultural products that are grown on the applicant’s farm. Seafood products include finfish and shellfish products that are harvested in Maryland.
The grant funds and matching funds must be used to purchase and install cold storage equipment. Eligible tangible equipment that may be purchased include:
• Large coolers
• Ice machines
• On-boat or On-dock cold storage
• Reach-in refrigerator/freezer
• Walk-in refrigerator/freezer
• On-truck cold storage (does not include costs related to purchase a truck)
• Third-party costs related to installation of cold storage unit or construction of cold storage
facility
Purchases made prior to June 16, 2025 are not eligble. The application deadline is August 27, 2025. Applications will be processed as they are received while funds are available. All applicants should expect to purchase or order equipment by September 30, 2025. Funding is limited and applications will be processed on a first come, first served basis. Funds will
be disbursed as a reimbursement based on proof of payment or directly to vendors based on submitted invoices. Application forms are available on MARBIDCO’s website: www.marbidco.org.

OCEAN CITY, MD – The annual Ocean City Air Show, a much-anticipated event that draws thousands of visitors each year, hit unexpected turbulence this weekend—not from the skies, but from the weather. Despite eager crowds and high expectations, Mother Nature had different plans. Rain, persistent cloud cover, and a low ceiling forced organizers to cancel the weekend’s main performances, including the highly anticipated Blue Angels showcase.
Safety First
Visitors lined up along the boardwalk, hotel balconies, and seawall to watch this weekend’s show.
The disappointment was palpable across the resort town. Sunday was set to be the grand finale of the Air Show, a celebration of aviation, patriotism, and summer fun. However, gray skies and unsafe flying conditions left performers grounded. The Federal Aviation Administration requires a minimum cloud ceiling of 2,000 feet for the jets to fly safely; this weekend, it barely reached 600.
Delays Lead to Cancellations
People huddled under umbrellas and towels to protect from the downpours along the beach.
Visitors had traveled from miles around to catch a glimpse of the U.S. Navy’s elite Blue Angels and other thrilling aerobatic displays. Instead, they found themselves waiting in vain as delay after delay gave way to official cancellations.
Sad, Mad, and All the In Between
Some air show patrons took the news in stride. “Safety should always come first,” said one visitor huddled under an umbrella on the packed boardwalk. “No air show is worth risking lives.” Many spectators stayed put, hoping for a break in the weather. They wrapped themselves in towels and ponchos, braving the wind and drizzle in an attempt to hold their place and keep the spirit alive.
Others, however, weren’t so understanding. With rising costs of travel, hotel rooms, and dining, many voiced frustration over the cancellations. “We drove three hours, spent hundreds of dollars, and barely saw a plane,” said a disappointed day-tripper. “It’s hard not to feel let down.”
Day visitors in particular expressed frustration, having come in for just one day and leaving without seeing any aerial displays. “It’s just our luck,” one family said. “This was supposed to be the highlight of our summer.”
A Silver Lining in the Low Clouds
Still, the show wasn’t entirely a wash. Organizers scrambled to provide alternate experiences. One silver lining came when several pilots took to the front stage at 17th Street for interviews, autographs, and photo opportunities. For many fans, the chance to meet the aviators face-to-face helped soften the disappointment.
East Coast Wash Out
After the cancellations Saturday and Sunday, traffic steadily streamed out of Ocean City along the Route 50 Bridge.
And it’s not just Ocean City feeling the wrath of the skies this season. Al Roker of NBC’s Today Show recently noted that the last 13 to 15 weekends have been near-total washouts across the East Coast, with steady rain disrupting events large and small.
Hopeful for Next Year
In the end, the skies refused to clear, and the jets stayed silent. While the weather proved to be the ultimate air show headliner—stealing the spotlight and grounding the thrills—Ocean City remains hopeful for clearer skies next year. Until then, patrons are left with wet towels, soggy shoes, and a memory of what could have been.

OCEAN CITY, MD — June 11, 2025— The Ocean City Film Festival will screen eight films with historical significance to the Town of Ocean City on Saturday, June 21, on the 94th St. tennis courts next door to the Ocean City Center for the Arts. Doors open at 6 p.m., and admission is free. In the event of rain, the screenings will move indoors to the Arts Center.
The eight films to be screened were originally part of the “Historical Film Challenge,” a contest with the goal of producing short films that celebrated Ocean City’s 150th anniversary as a premier beach resort. The films were previously screened once at the Ocean City Film Festival in March 2025, and were one of the most popular film blocks during the festival.
The films to be screened include:
– The Henry Hotel, directed by Marlon Wallace, about Charles Henry who went through segregation to create the now famous landmark that bears his name. 18 minutes.
– The Conner Stories, directed by Don Lehman, about brother and sister Bob and Barbara Conner who were born and raised at the Conner’s Inn on 10th St. 15 minutes.
– Tales from the Dock: The Legacy of Hooper’s Crab House, directed by Maurice Waters, about a cherished family-owned establishment.13 minutes.

The Air Show runs from noon to 3 p.m. each day (June 14-15). Headlining this year are the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. Other featured acts include the F-16 Viper Demo Team, E/A-18 Growler Team, A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, Navy Legacy Flight, Air Force Heritage Flight, West Point Parachute Team, Mark Meredith, and more.
Admission to the OC Air Show on the Boardwalk is FREE. However, various ticket packages for special viewing areas, including “Sand Boxes,” “VIP Penthouse,” “Flight Line Club,” and “Drop Zone Beach,” are available for purchase online, ranging from $60-$600.
Navigating the Air Show: Traffic, Parking & Transportation
Visitors should anticipate significant traffic, limited parking, and street closures in the downtown area throughout the weekend.

Street Closures: Several downtown streets will be impacted by closures:

12th Street to 20th Street: Portions will be closed and barricaded starting June 13 for ground exhibit and display setup, remaining closed through June 15.
15th Street and 17th Street: These specific streets will remain closed until noon on June 16.

This year’s event will be headlined by none other than the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, one of the most iconic and popular flight demonstration teams in the world. Their thrilling formations, tight maneuvers, and thunderous jet engines never fail to wow the crowds—and if past years are any indication, their presence is sure to draw thousands.
Planes That Serve a Purpose
A-10 Thunderbolts II CAS is one of the military planes that will shake, rattle, and rock the sand June 14-15.
Joining the Blue Angels in this year’s lineup are other military marvels, including the F-16 Viper Demo Team, the E/A-18 Growler Team, A-10 Thunderbolt IIs, and the West Point Parachute Team. These aircraft aren’t just flashy—they serve and protect our country every day, making their performances both breathtaking and meaningful.
The Epicenter of the Show
The West Point Parachute Team is scheduled to take on Ocean City, Maryland this weekend.
The aerial action will be best viewed from anywhere along the Ocean City boardwalk and beach, especially between 14th Street and 17th Street, where the show’s center point is focused. And for those lucky enough to be on a boat in the bay—yes, you’ll absolutely be able to catch the show from the water.
This year, the show returns to its traditional June time slot, after a brief departure last year. “This is the typical time frame for the show,” say organizers. “Last year was an exception to the rule.”
While Ocean City visitors can count on sunny skies, there’s always the chance of weather disruptions. Organizers note that tickets are non-refundable, but if the event is canceled entirely due to conditions outside their control, they may offer accommodations for next year or discounted admission. Still, the show usually goes on—even if slightly modified. Note: Tickets are only needed if beachgoers want to sit at the center of the show. As mentioned earlier, the show can be seen all along the beaches and boardwalk.
The Need for Speed
Coming in the a landing, The Blue Angels are always a top crowd pleaser.
And what exactly can fans expect? High-speed passes, loops, rolls, and thunderous fly-bys that shake the sand. Many of these aircraft have become famous not just for their missions but also their appearance in movies and around the world. While the show doesn’t require pilots to apply, booking performers is a strategic effort made years in advance to align with tour schedules.
Fans might even catch a glimpse—or selfie—with a pilot or parachutist, as performers will be walking the boardwalk and mingling with fans throughout the weekend. For families, this up-close access is part of what makes the event so uniquely engaging.

Ocean City, MD – June 4, 2025 – The Town of Ocean City has officially implemented new regulations for its beaches, effective immediately, aimed at significantly improving safety, visibility, and overall enjoyment for all visitors. The updated ordinance now prohibits all tents and places strict limits on canopy use.
Under the new guidelines, any structure defined as a “tent” (having sides) is no longer permitted on Ocean City beaches. However, open-sided canopies are still allowed, provided they meet the following criteria:
Must be open on all four sides
Size limit: no larger than 10ft x 10ft
Keep at least 3 feet of space between your canopy and your neighbor’s
Anchoring must stay within the footprint of the canopy
No canopies left unattended before 10:00 a.m.
Canopies must be placed behind the lifeguard stand
Baby tents are permitted but no larger than 3ft x 3ft x 3ft
Mayor Rick Meehan commented on the necessity of these changes, stating, “Our beaches get extremely crowded, and we want to make sure that we’re able to provide an experience that everybody can enjoy. We realize that canopies are important for sun protection. We just want to make sure that what we’re not doing is making it so other people can’t enjoy their time out on the beach as well.”

Town officials emphasize that these new rules will greatly enhance emergency access for first responders, maintain crucial clear sightlines for lifeguards and beach patrol, and reduce crowding during Ocean City’s busiest summer months. These updated policies are consistent with successful practices adopted by other popular beach destinations in the region.
All beachgoers are strongly encouraged to familiarize themselves with and adhere to the new regulations to help ensure a safer and more enjoyable beach environment for everyone this summer.
OCEAN CITY, MD — June 2, 2025 — The Art League of Ocean City, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, is seeking instructors in all media to teach art classes, both in-person and online. The Art League offers their teachers fair compensation, flexible scheduling, and support from staff.
“If you have an artistic talent that you would like to share with others and enjoy leading students in creativity, we need you,” Dr. Mary Anne Cooper, Director of Education at the Art League, said. “We welcome any and all ideas for new art classes that we can offer our members and everyone in our community, as well as classes aimed at engaging children.”

The Art League invites instructors in all media for both adult and children’s classes to apply. Class topics include painting, sculpture, pottery, glass, drawing, paper art, fiber art, jewelry, wood, mixed media, photography, journaling, “or anything you can dream up that’s artistic, fun, and educational,” Cooper continued. Classes can be as brief as 90 minutes, as long as all day, or presented as a workshop over several days.
