What makes it great: If you want a beach wedding, then Assateague Island provides everything you want – wide open beaches, the ability to get a special permit to host the wedding there inexpensively, you can even get a permit to hold your wedding there AND have a reception with alcohol! Bonfires on the beach for the rehearsal dinner? no problem. If you like it wild and wonderful in a natural kind of way, Assateague Island National Seashore is a great location. Don’t forget the permits, however.
Rackliffe House Behind the Visitors Center, 11800 Marsh View Ln, Berlin, MD 21811
What makes it great: Do you want an elegant beach wedding on the water, but the sand and surf are a little much for your guests? Try Rackliffe House, it’s an old farm mansion located behind the Visitors Center on Assateague. You enter down a long, winding road that can be lined with lights. The bridal party has the use of the mansion for getting ready and a tent can be constructed outside for the wedding and reception. You can also choose to be married under the trees with a flower lined aisle facing Assawoman Bay and Assateague Island. Then, stop at your raw oyster bar on the way to the tent for your reception.
