Where can I see the wild ponies on Assateague

0

The wild ponies of Assateague Island can be seen throughout the island. ย They are frequently on the ocean side of the Verrrazano bridge to the island. ย We find the drive to the National park offers ample sightings. ย Some popular viewing areas include:

The OSV (Over Sand Vehicle) zone:

This area is located on the Maryland side of the island and is a popular spot for pony viewing.

The areas near the roads, campsites and trails:

Ponies often graze near the campsites and trails, so it is possible to see them while driving, hiking or camping.

Please remember to keep a safe distance from the ponies and never feed them

Guided Tours

You can also take a guided tour to enhance your viewing of the ponies and learn more about their history and behavior. Several companies offer tours of the island, including a Coastal Bays tour on the OC Bay Hopper.

Keep your distance from the ponies. Be warned, they will approach you.

Near the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge:

This area is located on the Virginia side of the island and is home to a large population of ponies.
