Ocean City Amusements and Attractions
If your idea of a great vacation consists of soaring through the sky on a giant Ferris Wheel, circling the track on go-karts, jetting down a water slide or floating down a lazy river, screaming with others on a roller coaster, trying to score the big prize at the arcade, or putting your way around clowns and other silly distractions, you’re in luck because Ocean City, MD is home to pretty much every amusement and attraction under the sun.
Since I was a child, I can always remember going to the Ocean City boardwalk to ride the rides at Trimper Rides and Amusements. In fact, I’m sure many that frequent the Ocean City area in the summertime are familiar with memories of riding rides at Trimper’s.
Amusement parks and rides
You can’t visit Ocean City without spending a day at the boardwalk, the famous home of Trimper’s Rides. With scintillating rides inside and out, including icons like the ornate carousel, old-fashioned Fairy Whip and kitschy haunted house, Trimper’s has been entertaining Ocean City vacationers for almost a century.
Also on the boardwalk is one of two world famous Jolly Roger Amusement Park locations. Come see the Jolly Roger himself by the beach or on 28th street, where the world’s first cart coaster and other thrills reside.
In addition to rides, games and mini golf, Jolly Roger also has its own Splash Mountain Water Park, with 18 different attractions that’ll help you cool off from the heat.
For the cowboys and cowgirls seeking a splash, Frontier Town has a water park, too (in addition to campsites, a high ropes adventure course and all kinds of Western-style fun).
Venture down Coastal Highway for a bit and you’ll soon end up on the outskirts of OC in Fenwick, DE, where Thunder Lagoon offers water rides, Viking mini golf and go-karts.
Arts, arcades and other fun
The Trimper’s Haunted House at the south end of the Boardwalk is as iconic as the teeth-barring bat that adorns the ride’s second story. For over five decades, kids and adults alike have fallen in love with the Ocean City Haunted House (OCHH)’s neon-painted walls, kitschy stunts and decapitated Count Wolf Von Vinderstein who guards the ride’s entry.
If live performances are your pleasure, catching a show at Ocean City’s state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center (located in the Convention Center) should be high on your list of attractions. Featuring national recording acts, traveling theater performances, art exhibits, book signings and more, the Performing Arts Center is the epicenter of fine arts in Ocean City.
When it comes to Ocean City amusements, Ripley’s Believe it or Not on the Boardwalk is a must-see. Based on the TV show, Ripley’s Believe it or Not’s museum of oddities will entertain all members of the family and leave them questioning what is possible.
Miniature golf is a time-honored tradition in Ocean City, and you can’t think of Ocean City mini-golf (or drive more than a few blocks) without taking notice of the legendary Old Pro Golf. With multiple locations all over town, Old Pro sits atop the leader board when it comes to Ocean City mini-golf.
After a few rounds of golf, head back to the boardwalk for games (and air conditioning!) at Fun City Arcade and Marty’s Playland. Or, if you find yourself in West OC, check out the arcade, go-karts and other outdoor activities at Baja Amusements.
From the arcades and games along the Boardwalk to live music venues, water parks, go-kart tracks and mini golf all across town, Ocean City has all you need to make sure every member of the family has a time they’ll never forget.
