Free “Creative Connections” Returns to the Art League of Ocean City Friday, September 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

OCEAN CITY, MD  — August 31, 2026 — The Art League of Ocean City’s Creative Connections continues to provide adults ages 60 and over with an opportunity to explore art, share ideas, and build community in a welcoming and relaxed environment.

Launched earlier this year, Creative Connections is a free monthly art club for those who believe that creativity has no retirement date. Whether participants are lifelong artists or interested in art, the program offers a welcoming space to discover, connect, and enjoy creativity together with others.

The next Creative Connections gathering will be held Friday, September 11th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Art League of Ocean City Center for the Arts. The program is free, and registration is encouraged but not required.

Each meeting features an engaging, peer-led presentation from a fellow creative, with topics ranging from art history and artists to contemporary techniques and creative practices. After the presentation, participants are invited to join an open conversation and discussion, ask questions, share ideas, and enjoy light refreshments with other art lovers.

September Program: A Reconsideration of Degas’ Little Dancer

The September program will feature local artist David Hollander, who will present “Edgar Degas’ La Petite Danseuse: A Reconsideration.”

When Edgar Degas unveiled Little Dancer of Fourteen Years in 1881, audiences were shocked by the sculpture’s realism. Today, the work is considered a classic work of contemporary sculpture. Hollander will take a fresh look at the iconic sculpture through the life of its young model, Marie van Goethem, the social world of 19th-century Paris, and his own interpretive drawings.

The presentation will offer fresh perspectives on the artwork, its historical background, and the human story behind one of Degas’ most recognizable sculptures. Participants are encouraged to join a discussion and Q&A following the presentation.

Creative Connections meets on the second Friday of each month at 11 a.m. Upcoming sessions are scheduled for October 9, November 13, and December 11.
