Summer may be winding down, but Ocean City is going out with a bang. From glowing hot air balloons and Jeeps on the beach to living history and a final night of ice cream and fireworks, there is plenty happening this weekend.

The Summer Send-Off is bringing a spectacular glow to the beach between Dorchester Street and 3rd Street. The event takes place on two days between August 27 and 30, with the exact days determined by weather and wind conditions. Balloon setup begins around 4 p.m., with glowing hot air balloons or giant kites taking over the beach depending on the wind. Then, at 8 p.m., a laser show lights up the night.

The event is free, and visitors are encouraged to check Ocean City's social media for afternoon updates about which elements will be featured each evening.

The weekend features beach crawls, an obstacle sand course, a Show & Shine competition, vendors, live entertainment and more. The Convention Center will be a major hub of activity, while Jeeps will also be hitting the beach for the popular beach crawls. Want to bring your own Jeep? For a change of scenery, head to nearby Vienna on Saturday, August 29, for the Battle of Vienna Living History Event. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and brings the Revolutionary War era to life with a military encampment, reenactment demonstrations, a replica 18th-century ship, traditional music, exhibits, food and family-friendly activities. The event takes place at the Handsell Historic Site and Vienna Waterfront.

The Final Sundaes in the Park

From 7 to 9 p.m. on August 30, enjoy free live music, family activities and ice cream before sticking around for fireworks over the bay. Even when you're not checking out one of this weekend's big events, there are plenty of ways to keep the fun going in Ocean City. Take to the sky with Island Parasail, hop aboard a cruise with Seacrets Cruises Ocean City, Maryland, or get out on the water with a Sea Rocket adventure. You can also rent a SUP, test your teamwork at Trapped Escape Rooms OCMD - Uptown 118th st, or rent a boat from Bayside Boat Rentals. Bayside offers both pontoon boats and jet skis.

For even more family fun, challenge your crew to a round of mini golf, race around the tracks at Baja Mini Golf or Grand Prix Amusements, or hit the water with Odyssea Watersports.

In other words, there is no shortage of ways to make the most of one last summer weekend at the beach.
