Harpoon Hanna’s Restaurant has been a beach staple for over three decades now. Its soothing scenery, vibrant atmosphere, refreshing cocktails, and contemporary cuisine (which includes fresh seafood, prime meats, elevated local favorites, and all-you-can-eat feasts that appeal to all palettes) have helped Hanna’s become not only one of the premier hangout spots in the Ocean City area, but a dining and drinking destination in its own right. Located on Route 54 and the bay, right along the Maryland-Delaware line, the restaurant and tiki bar are just as easily accessible to those vacationing in Ocean City, Md or points north; and those arriving by boat.
Becoming one of the best known brands at the beach didn’t happen overnight, however. It has taken years of hard work and dedication by Frank Hanna and his family to turn the restaurant into the widely popular and well-run machine it is today.
“It’s incredible to see how much we’ve grown,” said Wes Hanna, Frank’s son who now mans the helm of the family business (which also includes sister restaurant, Brew River, in nearby Salisbury). Harpoon Hanna’s has certainly experienced its share of growth over the years- most recently in 2013 when the bar was redone with a new draft beer system that includes 12 tap lines for locally brewed craft beer– but the best may be yet to come.
Looking to kick off the 31st season, and the next 30 years, in a big way, Harpoon Hanna’s is undergoing renovations to remodel and expand in early 2014. The new look will keep with traditional nautical and beach themes, but offer a more modern experience for patrons.
The existing dining room will be updated and refurbished for a brighter, fresher look and the “Maryland” room, which has been primarily used as a banquet hall, will be expanded and renovated with hardwood floors and a first class feel to better accommodate weddings, rehearsal dinners, banquets, reunions, company parties, and other group gatherings. In addition, the renovations will add a brand new, 1200 square foot dining room. This three-season room will open up like outdoor seating in the summer and remain closed and heated during the cooler months- giving guests the ultimate dining experience, regardless of the weather. All in all, the renovations will add approximately 160 seats to Harpoon Hanna’s already large operation, raising its seating capacity to over 800.
The updates and expansions to Harpoon Hanna’s are scheduled to be finished this spring and be fully functional in plenty of time for the 2014 summer season; but you don’t have to wait to get your fix on mouthwatering food and amazing drinks, as the restaurant is open 365 days a year, even during construction.
