Celebrating More Than 32 Years — and Over $2.5 Million Donated to Breast Cancer Research

The Poor Girls Open is more than a fishing tournament—it’s a celebration of women in angling, a cherished Ocean City tradition, and a powerful force for change.

For more than 32 years, the tournament has brought together talented female anglers from across the country to compete in the waters off Ocean City, Maryland, while supporting an important cause.

The Poor Girls Open is a ladies-only billfish release tournament benefiting breast cancer research, with additional entry levels for tuna, wahoo, and dolphin.

What began as a fishing tournament has grown into an incredible community event, welcoming more than 250 boats and nearly 1,000 anglers. And you don’t have to fish to be part of the excitement. Raffles, an online silent auction, 50/50 drawings, official tournament merchandise, and other special events give everyone an opportunity to join in the fun and help make a difference.

Most importantly, the Poor Girls Open has turned a passion for fishing into a lasting impact. To date, more than $2.5 million has been donated to breast cancer research through the American Cancer Society.
