After one evening at Kalamata Mediterranean Cuisine in Ocean City, I can confidently say it was one of—if not the—best dining experiences I've ever had in Ocean City.

From the moment the first appetizer hit the table to the last flaky bite of baklava, every dish looked like it belonged on the cover of a food magazine. Pair that with handcrafted cocktails, live entertainment, and warm Turkish hospitality, and it's easy to see why Kalamata has earned a loyal following.

The Backbone of the Restaurant

Owned by the Kucuk brothers, three brothers from Turkey, Kalamata is much more than another upscale restaurant. It's a true family business. Behind the scenes, parents Mustafa and Nese Kucuk help make every guest feel like family while the restaurant delivers an elevated take on modern Mediterranean cuisine.

Here We Go...The Menu!

If you're the type of person who likes ordering several appetizers for the table, prepare yourself. The roasted cauliflower was packed with flavor, while the buttered shrimp practically melted in your mouth. The lahmacun, a traditional Turkish flatbread topped with seasoned beef, tomatoes, and onions, disappeared almost as quickly as it arrived. One of the most visually stunning dishes of the evening was the Borani—a colorful combination of bok choy and broccoli finished with creamy yogurt and rich butter. It was almost too beautiful to eat...almost. Tender lamb chops and juicy chicken chops practically fell off the bone, served alongside perfectly buttery rice that complemented every bite.But if I had to choose just one favorite? The stuffed grape leaves. Filled with fragrant rice and bursting with flavor, they were unlike any grape leaves I've ever tasted. I'll be going back to Kalamata for those alone. No Mediterranean meal would be complete without hummus, and Kalamata doesn't disappoint. Their generous serving arrives with warm, fresh pita bread that's impossible to stop eating.

Then Came Dessert

The Baklava Trio is exactly what every dessert lover dreams about—a traditional pistachio baklava, a classic milk chocolate, and an indulgent double chocolate variation. Three different takes on one iconic dessert, and honestly, I couldn't pick a favorite.

Adding another layer to the experience is Kalamata's beautiful Turkish tea station, where tea is prepared right in front of guests—a nod to the restaurant's rich cultural heritage.

Drinks that Deserve a Spotlight

If your phone eats first, you're going to love Kalamata's cocktail menu.The Pornstar Martini arrives topped with a glamorous smoking bubble that's almost too pretty to pop. The Barbarossa is dramatically served flaming inside a hammered copper mug, turning heads throughout the dining room.

After dinner, don't skip the Hey, Mr. and Hey, Mrs. sipping shots. One offers a fruity finish while the other delivers a warm cinnamon spice that's the perfect ending to an unforgettable meal.

Sweet and Spicy

Looking for something with a little kick? The Hurrem Sultan strikes the perfect balance between sweet and spicy, leaving just enough warmth on the back of your throat. Fans of black licorice should order the Bosphorus, a cocktail that embraces those bold, distinctive flavors.

The Total Experience

As if the food wasn't enough, Kalamata transforms into an even more memorable experience Thursday through Sunday when a professionally trained belly dancer performs beginning at 7 p.m. The lively entertainment, elegant décor, and welcoming atmosphere transport you somewhere far beyond Coastal Highway.

Fine dining isn't just about expensive ingredients. It's about creating an experience you'll remember. Kalamata does exactly that. My advice? Make a reservation, bring your appetite, and don't skip the appetizers. Trust me—you'll be talking about this meal long after your vacation ends.
