After a weather-challenged start, the 53rd Annual White Marlin Open wrapped up in Ocean City with an extra day of fishing, plenty of action and some serious money on the line.
An Additional Day
The tournament added Day 6 to give anglers more opportunities to choose the best weather window and get offshore. That decision paid off, as Days 2 through 5 brought some simply great days on the water. Strong winds early in the week kept many boats at the dock, but once conditions settled down, crews took full advantage.
For the final day, just 79 boats headed offshore, but those crews still managed to bring plenty of excitement back to the scales.
Big Fish, Big Money
The biggest white marlin of the tournament came from Mister Pete, which weighed in an impressive 80-pound white marlin on August 6. The fish earned a massive $3,503,891.54. Other top white marlin included Reel Hunter — 71.5 pounds — $360,721.49 and Bull Pen — 70 pounds — $1,818,546.84.
And the Winner Is...
The blue marlin division also had a heavyweight winner. MaxBet landed a 607.5-pound blue marlin, taking home $1,271,797.04. The tuna division saw some serious fish as well, led by Gray Fox with a 179-pound tuna worth $1,018,653.29. Speculator followed with a 146.5-pound tuna, while See Legs landed a 110.5-pound fish. In the wahoo division, Gray Fox struck again with a 69.5-pound wahoo, earning $72,380.50. BAR South followed with a 64-pound wahoo worth $49,443. The dolphin division was topped by Today's The Day, with a 45-pound dolphin worth $22,602.20.
And That's a Wrap
After a rocky weather start, the White Marlin Open finished strong. From waiting on the wind to finally getting those beautiful offshore days, anglers made the most of every opportunity — and Day 6 gave them one final chance to make their mark.
That’s a wrap on another unforgettable White Marlin Open in Ocean City!
