What is a Foam Wrecker?
Foam Wreckers take on New Jersey in 2021.
Red Bull Foam Wreckers is an open surfing competition that offers only one rule! You must use a foam top board. Sounds fun, right?! Back in 2021, free surfer Jamie O’Brien came up with the event that sounds exactly like it is- fun, fun, and more fun!
The Wheel of Shred?
Pick your board by spinning the wheel of shred before your heat.
This unique anti- traditional surfing competition begins when you show up to the beach. You can bring your own board or wait for it…you can spin the wheel of shred to decide which board you’ll be out riding on. Red Bull Wreckers has teamed up with Catch Surf to provide boards for surfers if they dare to challenge the wheel. After you pick up your board, you get to paddle out with 6-10 of your new closest friends on various boards to take on the waves for your heat. Then begins the fun part! Remember I said- fun, fun, and more fun! Proceed to stake your claim as the most unique softboard surfer for the next 15 minutes. There really are no rules so no one knows exactly what the judges are looking for! Go out, have fun, and shred as best you can!
Big Names Wreck the Waves

In the past some pretty epic celebrities have joined, competed, and just enjoyed the camaraderie of the event. Major surfers like Kalani Robb, Jamie O’Brien in addition to skate legends such as Eric Koston and Bucky Lasek have enjoyed the event, too! This year Rob Kelly and Ben Gravy, who has officially surfed all 50 states, will be here in Ocean City, Maryland.
Four on the Tour
Red Bull Foam Wreckers is making Ocean City, Maryland their first stop on this years tour. There are 4 locations total this year. After Ocean City, they charge across the states to San Clemente, California in August. Following that, a trip to Sandy Beach on Honolulu, Hawaii will take place in October. And to wrap up their 2024 tour they take it all the way back to the southern east coast to Cocoa Beach, Florida in December.Who Can Register?
A fun surfing environment for everyone- surfers and spectators alike.
In order to participate, surfers must be at least 16 years of age. Girls and guys are both welcome! And the registration fee is a mere $20! If spectating is more your style, please come down and join the fun! All are welcome to watch, make signs, and cheer on your favorite surfer girl or guy. We are expecting around 100 participants this year. But the more the merrier.
