Meet the Captain: Mark Scott of Island Parasail

He takes you on a tour of Ocean City, Maryland's back bay by air! Captain Mark Scott from Island Parasail. Let's get to know more about the captain of Knotted Up.

1. Name: Mark Scott

2. Business/Boat Name: Island Parasail / Knotted Up 

3. How many years have you been a captain? 10 years 

4. When did you know you wanted to become a captain? I have always enjoyed working on the water. One of my first jobs was working as a jetski guide. I started working towards obtaining my captains license while working there as well as at Island Parasail. That winter, I moved down to Captiva Island, Florida and started training as a parasail captain. 

5. What is your favorite part about being a captain?  I enjoy the day to day of being out on the water and showing guests the sights and getting to experience everything that parasailing and the water has to offer. You never know what you will see out on a trip and every day is different which keeps you on your toes. "Never the same twice" as we say. 

6. What's the most memorable experience you've had out on the water? In Siesta Key, they call me the "Dolphin Whisperer". Driving through the intracoastal there's a 99.99999% chance dolphins will jump in the wake of our boat. They always put on a show and it makes for a memorable trip! 

7. What do you hope guests take away from a trip with you? Whether you're a "first-timer" or a "twenty-fifth timer" we hope guests recognize the passion that myself and my crew bring each and every day. We truly love what we do.

8. What is one thing visitors are always surprised to learn about Ocean City or the surrounding waters? The one thing people are always surprised to know is how shallow our bay is (5-6 feet all the way across!). Also - how warm the water temperature is in comparison to the ocean.

9. When you're not on the water, how do you spend the off-season or unwind? I parasail year-round and spend my winter in Siesta Key, Florida. When I am not on a parasail boat, you can find me fishing, or working in the yard/garden.  

10. Just for fun: If you could take anyone (past or present) out on your boat for a day, who would it be and why? Johnny Depp, because we are big Pirates of the Caribbean fans and would love to spend a day with "Captain" Jack Sparrow.
