(July 12, 2013) Sixty-eight boats carrying anglers of all ages competed in the Ocean City Marlin Club’s 31st annual Canyon Kick Off Tournament, held July 5-7.
“This really kicks off bill fishing in Ocean City,” said Tournament Chairmen Bill Regan before the competition. “Most other tournaments are based for sharks or inshore fishing but this is really the first true kind of tournament to bill fish and it has been for many years.”
All fish were weighed at Sunset Marina in West Ocean City and the tournament ended with an awards banquet on Sunday evening, July 7. A total of $42,210 was paid out to tournament winners.
The results are as follows:
• Billfish Release: First, 200 points, Last Call, $1,260; Second, 150 points, Grande Pez, $756; Third, 100 points, Streaker, $4,374.
• Bluefin Division: First, 129.2 pounds, Greg Garman on Gret’s Three J’s, $3,006; Second, 121.8 pounds, Jeff Peregoy on Foul Hook, $1,026; Third, 121.2 pounds, Jason Courtney on Jezebel, $4,698.
• Tuna Division: First, 209 pounds, Jenny Wright on Albedamn, $6,548; Second, 207 pounds, Jamie Romero on Absolut Pleasure, $5,638; Third, 203.8 pounds, Austin Josephson on White Lightning, $1,359.
• Dolphin Division: First, 18.8 pounds, Chuck Egan on No Quarter, $11,835; Second, 15 pounds, Jim Hughes on Nontypical, $1,026; Third, 14.4 pounds, Mike Levasseur on Kylee’s World, $684.
