Join the Assateague Coastal Trust on Saturday, March 5th, 2011 for a Winter Wildlife Safari in Ocean City.
Meet your safari guide at The Shark on the Harbor in West Ocean City at the Commercial Fishing Harbor at 8:30 am. You’ll meet your guide, board your boat, and take a trip through the local waters of Ocean City.
The boat caravan will return to the fishing harbor at 11 am. At this time, you’ll board the Lucky Break, a 27-foot Carolina Skiff operated by Captain Jason Mumford. The Lucky Break will take you on a 1-hour boat ride through the bay of Ocean City and return to The Shark. An on-board guide will help you identify and located local wildlife like harbor seals, gray seals, loons, and several species of waterfowl.
You are encouraged to dress for whatever weather we are expecting that day. Make sure you’re nice and warm considering this is the Winter Wildlife Safari and it’s still chilly in Ocean City in March. The boat has an open-deck. The boat trips may be postponed due to rain or rough seas; safety first, of course. Also, feel free to bring binoculars and cameras so you can easily see the animals pointed out.
After the trip, you can head back to The Shark on the Harbor and enjoy delicious local dishes and yummy drinks.
This is a family-friendly event and is a great way for children to learn about wildlife in the marine and marsh areas of Eastern Maryland.
A second boat trip has recently been scheduled due to popularity of this event. This trip will leave the dock at 12 noon. Make reservations now! Contact the Assateague Coastal Trust for more information or reservations at 410-629-1538.
