What To Do In Ocean City Week of January 11th to 17th

Winter in Ocean City, Maryland (or anywhere for that matter) never promises anything, so when unseasonably warm temperatures hit in January you better take advantage while you can!

The combination of low off-season rates and terrific weather make for a perfect weekend at the beach!  Forecasters are calling for 60 – 65 degree temperatures all weekend into the beginning of next week.  Start planning your getaway by booking your room right here right now!  Rates range anywhere from $50 on up depending on the hotel and location.

You might be wondering what there is to do at the beach in January.  The answer: plenty!

The ocean is gorgeous no matter what the season.  Waking up and watching the sun rise over the beach while taking in the clean salty air is certainly the best way to start any day.  Take a stroll on the boardwalk and peruse the shops that are sure to be open on such a beautiful weekend.   You might even enjoy a bike ride on the boards.  There are several place to rent bicycles, such as Dandy Don’s Bike Rentals on 12th Street and Boardwalk.

You might consider a carriage ride around town.  From 11am to 5pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday, horse drawn carriages carry passengers from the inlet on the boardwalk and around the pier.  The cost to ride is only $10 per person with children under 3 FREE.

Head over to Assateague and watch the wild ponies frolic while catching a glimpse of Ocean City from a distance.  You might walk one of the nature trails or even take a picnic lunch.  In addition to pristine beaches, Assateague is the home to many deer, foxes and thousands of birds so be sure to take your camera.

Catch some first of the year sales while spending some time at the Tanger Outlets located in West Ocean City.  Stores include Coach Factory, Aeropostale, Gap, Kitchen Collection, Crocs and many more.  If you are an AARP or AAA member get a free coupon book by visiting the Tanger Shopper Center.  Tanger Outlet winter hours are 9am to 9pm Friday and Saturday, 11am to 7pm Sunday and 9am to 7pm Monday thru Thursday.

While some restaurants do close during the winter months, there are plenty of restaurants open with many offering great money saving specials.  The Captain’s Table located inside the Courtyard by Marriott on 15th Street and the ocean is open year round with daily happy hour and early bird dinner specials.  Click here for a printable coupon good for a complimentary draft beer, house wine or Maryland Crab Chowder with the purchase of 2 appetizers or an entree. Seacrets is open Thursday thru Sunday and offers half price entrees from 5pm to 10pm.  Horizon’s Oceanfront located inside the Clarion Resort Fontainebleau on 101st Street oceanfront is also open year round serving breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Hubba’s located in the 123rd Street Shopping Center is also open year round and is a great place for BBQ.  In fact, Hubba’s was voted Best BBQ in the OceanCity.com 2012 Best of Ocean City Contest.  Click here to receive $5 off at Hubba’s.  For more information on restaurants visit the Ocean City restaurant guide.  If you need help selecting a restaurant read one of the many restaurant reviews on restaurants from Tex Mex and Beyond to the Satellite Cafe.  You might also receive help from some of the OceanCity.com forum members.  They constantly write reviews on the their trip to Ocean City and include tips on where to stay, where to eat, best happy hours and more.
