Ocean City

This Week in OC: June 28-July 4, 2013

America’s birthday is almost upon us.  Is there a better way to celebrate than with loud explosions and bright lights?  The answer is yes- a long weekend!  This year July 4th falls on Thursday, so you get both!  Ocean City, Maryland will host simultaneous holiday celebrations downtown at North Division Street and at Northside Park on 127th Street.  The FREE festivities kick off with a concert at 8pm and conclude with fantastic fireworks displays at 9:30.  If you’ve been to Ocean City on July 4th before, however, you know it’s more than just fireworks, it’s the biggest party of the summer.  Whether you choose to commemorate our nation’s birthday by lounging in the sun, splashing in the surf, boating on the bay, cooking out, shopping on the boardwalk, or bar hopping, Ocean City offers all the attractions and accommodations you need for a star spangled celebration that will make our Founding Fathers proud.

Here are some other recommendations for your holiday week:

-For over 15 years they have brought you Wine on the Beach each fall.  Now, for the first time ever, they bring you a new annual wine tasting event: Wine in the Park.  If you crave the finest wines from all over the Eastern Shore and Mid-Atlantic region, Northside Park on 125th Street is the place for you on Friday and Saturday this weekend.  Your $25 ticket gets you a commemorative wine glass and samples of the best wine in the area.  There will also be craft beer tastings, local food, arts and crafts for sale, and live music headlined by Byrd Dog and the Road Kings.

-If you’re looking for something to soak up the booze in your belly after a long day of wine sampling, head next door to the brand new OC Abbey Burger Bistro on 126th St for an unforgettable burger experience you, and your taste buds, won’t soon forget.

-Maryland may be known for crabs, but the produce is just as delicious.  This and every Saturday through October will be the weekly Farmer’s Market at White Horse Park in Ocean Pines, so stop by and pick up some fresh produce for your July 4 cookout.  Local farmers and vendors will also be providing eggs, cheese, milk, flowers, honey, organic foods, baked goods, a variety of crafts, soaps, and more.

-As one of Ocean City’s original surf shops, Quiet Storm makes a point to support the local surfing community, that’s why it’s hosting a night of surf and skate movies and a local artist slideshow every Saturday throughout the summer.  Join them on North Division Street this weekend from 8-9:30 for surf films and a Dew Tour slideshow.
