It seems like just yesterday we were wearing flag t-shirts and celebrating America’s birthday. July flew by like it always does and August is right around the corner, but there’s no time to dwell on the past here in Ocean City, Maryland and there’s still plenty of summer excitement to be had in the East Coast’s favorite resort town. Charity events, surfing competitions, free things to do- there really is something for everyone this week in Ocean City. Here are some of our recommendations:
The Hogs and Heroes Foundation is a national community of motorcycle riders who sponsor fund raising events to support Public Safety workers, the military, and Wounded Warriors. Friday July 26 the foundation is holding an event at Hooter’s in West Ocean City to raise money for the families of PFC Josh Adickes and OFC Tom Geoghegan, two Ocean City police officers who tragically died in a plane crash several weeks ago. The event takes place from 3-10pm and will include food and drink specials, guest bartenders, Drink Drank Drunk live on stage, and a live broadcast by 93.5 The Beach. This is a great event for a great cause, please come support our local community and its fallen heroes.
The Eastern Surfing Association is the largest amateur surfing association in the world and has been the proving ground for many professionals, including 11-time world surfing champion Kelly Slater. This week, the ESA’s Summer Surf Series returns to Ocean City for a weekend of competition for all ages and skill levels. The event takes place all day Saturday and Sunday on the 30th St beach and is open to all who want to participate.
July may be winding down, but the Lucky Summer of 13 is still going strong. In fact, there’s a free, family friendly event just about every night of the week to help you have an amazing and affordable vacation. Whether you want movies, live music, fireworks and light shows, or Beach Olympics, Ocean City has you covered. See our Lucky Summer 13 Free Events listings for complete schedules and locations.
While we are talking about free events, don’t forget to stop by the Life-Saving Station Museum at the inlet for daily programs at 10am (Monday-Saturday). Bring the family to learn about aquarium feeding, beach safety, knot tying, sharks, and other beach related topics. When you’re done, browse the museum exhibits to see how Ocean City evolved from a desolate fishing community to one of the largest tourist towns on the East Coast.
