St. Patrick’s Day

If you are in Ocean City this week, you may notice a couple of changes as you drive down Coastal Highway. The speed limit, normally 40 mph through North Ocean City, has been reduced to 30 mph, and Downtown, the speed limit has also been reduced. This is due to the expected, unauthorized H2Oi Pop-Up Rally.  It is reasonable to expect heavier than usual traffic, noise and strict enforcement of vehicle laws during the week and weekend.

Are you green at heart? Then you can’t miss the the  St Patrick’s Day Parade in Ocean City, Md. This is an Ocean City tradition sponsored by the Delmarva Irish-American Club and falls directly on St. Patrick’s Day this year. Buck Mann, the chairman for the event, is quoted as saying, “It will be HUGE this year!”  The annual parade and festival includes marching bands, floats, and Irish dancing.  Some of your Ocean City area businesses will be sponsoring floats this year including the Greene Turtle, Smitty McGee’s, Seacrets, BJ’s on the Water, Pepper’s Tavern, K-Coast Surf Shop, Old Pro Golf, the OC Parrothead Club, the  Ravens Roost, Maryland Coastal Bays, and the newcomer, Burley Oak Brewery in Berlin.  (Pictured: The Downtown Association Float in the Parade)

The St Patrick’s Day Parade starts at noon on Saturday March 17th, moving south from 61st street to 45th street and Coastal Highway. The parade travels down the South-bound side, so expect significant delays during the event.  It’s better to come into town early, find a place the park and leave your car for the day.  Bus transportation is available and you can always walk from your favorite pub to the ocean and back!  Remember, weather.com is predicting 63 degrees and partly sunny so what better way is there to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than with a huge parade in Ocean City with more money-saving specials from virtually every bar and restaurant in Town?  Whether you like corned beef and cabbage, bangers and mash, or sushi, you can find what you want and save money doing it during the 31st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and celebration in Ocean City, Maryland this year!
