Ocean City

This Week in OC: September 20-26, 2013

You think the good vibrations of summer are gone in Ocean City, Maryland?  Think again.  Last week’s Bikefest drew record numbers, and the fall festival season only gets hotter this weekend as Sunfest returns for the 39th year, bringing the iconic Beach Boys to the Inlet stage for a headlining performance.  Don’t miss this weekend long celebration of summer that includes national recording acts, over 300 food, craft, and specialty item vendors, and activities for all ages.  This year’s Sunfest will also host a Kite Festival from third to sixth streets, featuring master kite fliers from around the world showcasing their amazing aerial displays, kite making workshops, and kite battles.  Check out our Sunfest guide for information on events, activities, show times, and more!

For those of you looking for other options other than Sunfest this upcoming week, here’s a look at what’s happening around Ocean City:

–  If you feel like venturing away from the sights and sounds of Sunfest for a more environmental experience, the Delmarva Discovery Center in nearby Pocomoke, MD is  hosting a “Feathered Fiesta” to celebrate birds, wildfowl, and birding on Saturday, Septemeber 21, from 10am-4pm.  This event includes live bird displays by Scales and Tales, a bird migration discussion with falconer Andrew Bullen, a live presentation at the Salisbury Zoo from 1-2pm, a bird walk on the Discovery Nature Trail with a DDC naturist, and a craft table run by the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art.  This is a great opportunity for an educational and exciting look at the millions of birds who call the Eastern Shore home, or travel over it each year as they navigate the Atlantic Flyway.

–  Time is running out on the weekly Ocean City Farmer’s Market at White Horse Park in Ocean Pines.  Don’t miss your chance to score some amazing Eastern Shore produce while it’s still in season.  Local farmers and vendors will also be providing eggs, cheese, milk, flowers, honey, organic foods, baked goods, a variety of crafts, soaps, and more.  The farmer’s market will only be open through the end of October, so remember to stop by this Saturday from 8am-noon.

–  Thursday, September 26 is the return of the Bluegrass By the Bay music festival at Castaways in Berlin.   Join thousands of bluegrass fanatics and some of the top bluegrass acts in the nation for this four day festival full of great music, amazing food and drinks, and awesome times in an awesome scene.  Come for the day or camp and stay the whole weekend, just make sure you don’t miss your chance to see the biggest and best bluegrass festival on the Eastern Shore.
