It’s an unusual time in Ocean City, Maryland. The calendar and retail stores tell us we should be gearing up for the winter holiday season, but the thermometer keeps telling us to wear shorts and flip flops. Christmas decorations and celebrations are starting to take over the town, yet the beaches and golf courses are seeing as much action now as they ever have in November. Whether you’re already in winter mode or still clinging to the warm weather while it lasts, Ocean City has plenty to offer you this week.
Here’s a look at some of the highlights to help plan your OC fun:
– Indian Summer won’t stick around forever (we think), so while it does, join the hundreds of locals who are taking advantage by playing one of Ocean City’s 20+ golf courses. We recommend Deer Run, in Berlin, which is still in amazing condition and offers great value and fun play for all skill levels.
– It may not be winter weather yet, but there is no shortage of holiday spirit in Ocean City. This Saturday, November 10, two holiday favorites return for 2013. The first is the Wicomico Street Winter Festival, which takes place between the Boardwalk and Baltimore Avenue from 4-8pm. The celebration includes games, prizes, raffles and activities for children and adults; as well as live music by Journey tribute band, Back Alley, and an appearance by Santa (yes, before Thanksgiving) at 5:30 p.m.
The second holiday themed event this weekend is the 35th Annual Holiday Bazaar and Luncheon at Atlantic United Methodist Church on 4th St. Activities start at 10am and feature a boutique, Christmas Place, bake shop, silent auction, and lunch of barbecue pork or chicken salad and chicken corn chowder. All proceeds benefit AUMC missions.
– If you’re looking to expand your horizons and explore outside of Ocean City, you are just moments from Maryland’s Coolest Small Town. Berlin has become its own destination over the past few years, offering superior shopping, excellent eats, and awesome events all year round. This weekend marks the return of the 2nd Friday Art Stroll. The action kicks off at 6:00pm in Downtown Berlin and features local artists, live music, fabulous food, and fun for the whole family.
– Speaking of Berlin, this weekend is also the Wings and Wheels Display and Competition at the Ocean City Airport to raise money for the maintenance and care of the Huey Memorial Display, from 10am-3pm. Ocean City is known for its car shows, but this one takes the concept to a whole new level with the addition of aircraft displays. Add delicious food, beer, and air craft rides for only a $5 admission fee and you have an amazing, can’t miss event.
