This Week in OC: February 21-27, 2014

-Relay for Life may not be for a few more months, but it is never too early to pull together in the battle against cancer.  On Friday, February 21, ‘Marvel’s Marvels,’ a North Worcester County Relay for Life team, will host a ‘Pouring for the Cure’ event at Sister’s in historic downtown Berlin where members of the team will guest bartend.  The drinks will start flowing at 6pm and a percentage of all sales will go to benefit the American Cancer Society.  Get there early and help make a difference as you sip your way into the weekend.

-After a tease of temperatures in the 60s this week, it looks as if Mother Nature has some more chilly weather in store for us before she really brings us spring.  What better way to warm up this weekend than with a hot bowl of flavorful chili? This Saturday, February 22, is the 2nd round of the Chili Cook-off at American Legion Post 166, 2308 Philadelphia Ave., from 1-4pm.  Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door and include chili, hot dogs, cornbread, salad, cheese, bread, draft beer and soda.

-By Wednesday, there is a very good chance that Berlin will be named ‘America’s Coolest Small Town,’ but before voting ends on Tuesday, come support Berlin’s Main Street Program with a fundraiser at Burley Oak Brewery this Sunday.  The event kicks off at 6pm and will feature guest bartenders, live music, and a Chinese auction.  Proceeds will help benefit the restoration of the visitor’s center and help fun future beautification projects of downtown Berlin.
