To say that White Marlin Open week is a big deal in Ocean City, Md would be a gross understatement. Ocean City hosts hundreds of events the summer that draw tens of thousands to our resort town, but only one of them is the largest and most lucrative fishing tournament in the history of the world. The White Marlin Open returns for the 41st year next week, bringing the best anglers on the planet to Ocean City for their chance to land a prize winning fish and part of the multi-million dollar purse. Boats head out on Monday, so make sure to attend the nightly weigh-ins at Harbor Island and stay tuned to our Facebook page for updates throughout the event.

Before the White Marlin Open casts off next week, however, we have an exciting weekend to get through first! Here’s a look at the highlights from around town:

– After a highly successful stay in 2013, the Spanish Tall Ship El Galeon Andalucía is back in Ocean City for a month-long visit. Arriving Wednesday afternoon and docking between 3rd and 4th streets, bayside, El Galeon Andalucía will remain in town until September 1. Board and tour the ship daily from 10am-6pm to experience 16th century culture first hand. Regular tickets start at $16, but discounted rates and VIP packages can be purchased at http://tallshipevent.com.

– The Art League of Ocean City is happy to host one of the area’s most renowned artists on Friday, August 1. An Eastern Shore resident for 30 years, Kevin Fitzgerald is exhibiting 30 of his finest landscape paintings – large evocative studio images that are almost blurred to the abstract and smaller “plein air” paintings he produces in the field.  Nationally known, Fitzgerald’s paintings are included in private collections throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia. Fitzgerald will hold the reception for his first every Ocean City gallery show from 5-7pm at the Ocean City Center for the Arts on 94th St. More information available at http://artleagueofoceancity.org.

– Saturday is the 6th Annual Peach Festival in America’s Coolest Small Town. Head to historic Downtown Berlin from 11am-4pm for a bake-off, pie eating contest, historical displays, food vendors, arts & crafts, live music, and children’s activities. The event is free to attend and is hosted by the Calvin B. Taylor House Museum.

– Finally, don’t forget to take advantage of the town’s free family events while they are still being offered! This week you can catch a free movie on the 27th St. beach on Friday at 8:30, OC Beach Lights on the Boardwalk on Sunday starting at 9:30, Beach Fireworks on the beach at N. Division St. on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 10pm, Family Beach Olympics on Tuesday at the 27th St. beach from 6:30-8:30, and a free concert on the N. Division St. beach on Wednesday at 8pm.
