As we inch closer and closer to warmer weather (we hope) innumerable awesome Ocean City events loom on the horizon that we are sure have you itching to spend time in the sun and on the sand. But why wait another month for Springest to start celebrating the upcoming season? Many Ocean City, Md establishments are already up and running, with more opening up every day, so if you’re looking for an April escape, Ocean City promises plenty of live music and events to keep you occupied while waiting on higher temperatures.
Here’s a look at this week’s highlights:
– Do you love strolling the scenic Ocean City Boardwalk, and helping raise money for a god cause? This Saturday you get your chance to do both as the “Let’s Walk the Boards for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital” returns for the 11th year. Join dozens of your kind hearted neighbors as they take a 4.5 mile seaside stroll while raising money to benefit research efforts at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Registration is just $15, all of which goes to St. Jude’s, and begins at 9am. All walkers receive a certificate of participation; and those who raise $35 earn a T-shirt, those raising $75 earn a shirt and backpack and those who raise $150 take home a St. Jude blanket. Snacks and drinks await all those who finish the walk.
-One (possibly the only) bad thing about the temperatures rising is that it means oyster season is rapidly drawing an end, so make sure you take advantage of these delicacies while local ones are still fresh. One place you can do so is at the Greene Turtle in West OC this Sunday, April 6, as the OC Surf Club hosts an oyster-fest and membership drive. The event takes place from 1-5pm and your $25 ticket gets you all you can eat oysters- raw, fried, or steamed, oyster stew, side dishes, draft beer, and music from Ocean 98’s DJ Wood.
– Do you run a business that operates under green practices, or know someone who does? Now through April 11 Worcester County is accepting nominations for the 3rd Annual Worcester County Green Awards. The Worcester Green Awards pay homage to community leaders, businesses, restaurants, and teachers that demonstrate extraordinary performance related to sustainable environmental practices, such as water conservation, wastewater management, the promotion of alternative transportation and transit, recycling, energy conservation, on-site renewable energy production, use of local products and food sources and the purchase of renewable energy. To nominate yourself or another business, please go to: visitworcester.org.
