Unbelievably it’s already the second weekend in March and spring is trying as hard as it can to get its foot in the door. Even the fierce nor’easter that just blew through can’t stop thoughts of the warmer weather and good times on the boardwalk and beaches. Ocean City is gearing up with some events this weekend to help you shake off your winter blues and make plans for losing that winter coat.
This weekend at the Ocean City Convention Center the Home Condo & Outdoor show is taking place. The show features workshops and displays for indoor/outdoor renovations, landscaping ideas, and even new home construction. There will be more than 150 vendors there with various specialties including: outdoor living, interior decorations/furnishing, energy conservation, and kitchen/bath treatments. There will also be an arts & crafts fair for those of you who are feeling extra creative. There will be free drawings, door prizes, and the chance to participate in a raffle. Tickets for adults are just $6 and there are discounted ticket prices for seniors and children. The show is from noon-6pm on Friday, 10am-6pm on Saturday, and 10:30am-3:30pm on Sunday. You can visit www.oceanpromotions.info or call 410-213-8090 for more details.
Finnegan’s Wake is a critically acclaimed novel written by renowned author James Joyce. The novel took Joyce nearly 17 years to write and is highly polarizing to say the least. This Saturday at one of the most well known Ocean City bars Finnegan’s Wake takes on an entirely different meaning. At 5pm the Worcester County Developmental Center (WCDC) will be hosting a fundraising event -focused on the Finnegan’s Wake theme- at Seacrets in Ocean City. The premise of the event is a mock funeral based loosely on Joyce’s novel and is an early celebration of St. Patrick’s Day for those who can’t wait until next weekend. The wake runs from 5-9pm in Seacrets’ world famous Morley Hall. There will be a funeral procession and for $1 guest will get the opportunity to tell Finnegan a funny joke or a story. Whoever can make Finnegan chuckle will receive a drink on the house. There will be classical Irish music selections performed by the Ocean City Pipe Band and Patrick McAllorum. A “wailing” contest will also take place with the most stylish/loud/heartfelt contestant taking home top honors and a cash prize. Seacrets also happens to be one of the best restaurants in Ocean City and they will be running happy hour specials at the bar featuring an “Irish” menu. Admission to the fundraiser is just $20 with a percentage of the proceeds going to the WCDC. For info: 410-632-2382.
There gets to be a little buzz in the air in Ocean City this time of year. Winter no longer seems to be interminable and more and more restaurants and bars in Ocean City begin to open for the season.
