Things To Do In Ocean City Week of February 8th

With February upon us there is no doubt that winter is about to get its groove back. When you also take into account the fact that football is on hiatus until Autumn, and March Madness is still several snow storms away, you begin to appreciate the people that created the calendar and how they deemed February to be the shortest month of the year. However, just because major sporting events have taken a break doesn’t mean you have to become a recluse. There are plenty of things to do in Ocean City and the surrounding areas to beat the winter time blues and help you get your own personal groove back.

Ocean City Activities

On Friday from 6-9pm there is a Country Music Murder Mystery Dinner at the  Woodlands of Ocean Pines. The show is put on by Get a Clue Productions and sponsored by Ocean Pines Chamber of Commerce. You and your friends can enjoy a great dinner while gathering clues to solve a mystery. Guests are welcome and encouraged to wear western attire. Tickets are $40 and that price includes dinner and the show. Cash bar is available and prizes will be offered too.  For more information contact: www.OceanPinesChamber.org or give them a call at 410-641-5306.

On Saturday Carolyn Outlaw Khun -a local author- will be meeting the public and promoting the release of her first book, “Suffering in Silence.” The focus of the book deals with a family and how they learn to work through the hardships of life such as alcohol abuse, imprisonment, dereliction, and other factors that test the mettle of those involved. If you are interested in meeting the author or learning how to purchase a copy of the book Ms. Khun will be at local Ocean City restaurant JR’s Ribs. JR’s is located 131st Street, Ocean City, and the event is on Saturday evening from 5-7pm. The book will be available for sale on several media platforms -including e-books-  and a portion of the proceeds from each book will be donated to charity. For more information call 410-487-1183.

If you do not mind taking a short day trip from Ocean City the Mar-Va Theater and Performing Arts Center, located at 103 Market St., in Pocomoke City, will be hosting The Ballet Theatre of Maryland as they present their production of ‘FRONTIER: THE WAR OF 1812’. This will be a live dance and multi-media performance that captures the fiery independence of colonial America as it forges itself into a nation. Tickets cost $6 and can be purchased at all branches of the Worcester and Somerset County libraries. There will be two shows on Saturday -the first at 2 pm. and the late show beginning at 7 pm.- for more Info please contact: Lisa Outten Stant at 410-632-3970.

Ocean City Entertainment

For those of you who would rather dance your way through February, Ocean City nightlife is still going strong, and there are plenty of places to catch great live entertainment.

Johnny’s Pizza & Pub has Opposite Directions playing on Friday, and Lauren Glick will be featured on Saturday. The Ocean Club Nightclub, located inside the Clarion Ocean City Hotel, has On the Edge -a fantastic live group- taking the stage both nights this weekend. Hooters, on U.S. Route 50 in West O.C., has live music on Saturday starring local favorite Randy Lee Ashcraft from 7-11pm. The Captain’s Table, located on 15th Street & Baltimore Avenue, has a live performance by Phil Perdue -on piano- on Friday Feb 9th. Check out www.captainstableoc.com for more information.
