Ocean City

This Week in OC: June 14-20, 2013

The Air Show and derecho have come and gone and the Dew Tour Beach Championships and Delmarva Chicken Festival are only days away.  If you’re looking for something to occupy your time before checking out Bucky Lasek and the original world’s largest frying pan, fear not, Ocean City, Maryland is gearing up for another exciting June week.

Ocean City is home to some of the best deep-sea sport fishing on the East Coast and hosts some of the most prestigious annual tournaments.  The OC Shark Tournament casts off this weekend and attracts anglers from all over because of its potential for large fish and even larger payouts.  The region’s best big-game fisherman will board their boats and search the sea for Mako, Bluefish, Tuna, and Dolphin as they show off their skills and compete for cash prizes.   Those who choose not to bait their own hook on the Atlantic Ocean can still get in on the action by attending the weigh-ins to watch as the drama unfolds and champions are crowned.

On Saturday June 15 Lindy Promotions and Coors Light host the ‘Explore the Shore: Ocean City Scavenger Hunt’.  This second annual event is a team competition that is part scavenger hunt, part bar crawl, and all fun.  Teams will convene at Macky’s Bayside at noon before embarking on an all day adventure that will take them to bars across town as they search for items, solve puzzles, answer trivia, take pictures, and enjoy $2 Coors Light aluminum bottles.  Prizes will be awarded to the top teams at the after party at the Blue Ox from 6-8pm, but anyone who participates will walk away feeling like a winner (or at least buzzed).  See adjacent flyer for full event details and registration information.

Senior Week is still in full swing, and a new group of graduates will be migrating to Ocean City this weekend for their beach getaway.  If you are looking for ideas for a memorable beach week, our Top 10 Activity guide is for you.  If you’re an OC local, you can rejoice in the fact that June is half over!

Early next week, thousands of firefighters will travel to Ocean City for the annual Maryland State Firemen Association Convention.  This multiple day event includes training programs, exhibits, and meet and greets at the Roland E. Powell Convention Center.  The convention culminates with the annual parade on Wednesday where rescue vehicles, floats, and live music will be on display to pay homage to these everyday heroes.
