Things to do in Ocean City, Maryland January 31-February 5

If you are in Ocean City this week, you may notice a couple of changes as you drive down Coastal Highway. The speed limit, normally 40 mph through North Ocean City, has been reduced to 30 mph, and Downtown, the speed limit has also been reduced. This is due to the expected, unauthorized H2Oi Pop-Up Rally.  It is reasonable to expect heavier than usual traffic, noise and strict enforcement of vehicle laws during the week and weekend.

With a month of 2012 gone, ask yourself if you’ve started off the year the way you wanted. Have you enjoyed beautiful views? Have you eaten at quality restaurants? Have you listened to live bands while sipping whatever drink suits your fancy? If not, Ocean City will jive up your February and prepare you for the rest of the year. Ocean City, Maryland hotels, restaurants, and bars serve up lots of fun this week so try them out!

Entertainment by the Ocean

DJ Hook often frequents Fager’s Island, and this time, he’s there on Friday night to kick off the weekend. He starts switching beats at 9 p.m. inside. On the first weekend in February, Fager’s gets a new round of entertainers. Comprised of five talented artists, Dead Poets plays on stage at 10 p.m. inside. If you’d rather be on the Fager’s deck, DJ Groove will be doing a mix of international music mixed with popular beats of today. Groove will be there at 8 p.m. On Sunday, Everett Spells plays jazz at 11 a.m. inside.

Seacrets offers exciting musical groups this week, like on Friday with The Fold. This group plays 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. On Saturday, February 4th, Jenny Boyle entertains dinner guests from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. After dinner, Star 69 plays on stage from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. If you’re more interested in the food at Seacrets, make sure to go when they have specials. The restaurant offers drink specials on Thursday, Friday, and Sunday all day long, and Saturday until 7 p.m. Food specials occur Thursday, Friday, and Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. Naturally, Seacrets has happy hour specials like half-priced jerk chicken, Jamaican fries, onion rings, and steamed shrimp Thursday all day and Friday and Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m.

Ocean City, Maryland Restaurants

If you’re looking for a calmer, more intimate night of entertainment, Ocean City has plenty of restaurants that offer weekly specials. Call the restaurant you have in mind and check for specials, or consider one of the ones discussed here. The Shark on the Harbor is a fantastic restaurant, with spectacular views of a marina and Assawoman Bay. Their food matches the upscale yet comfortable views, too. At lunch, The Shark serves up $5.99 specials from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The restaurant also has a “Harbor Plate” every day in which visitors can enjoy a $12 entree special until 5 p.m. Waterman’s Seafood Company also has specials on their specialty–succulent, plump, healthy, delicious seafood. The restaurant offers Fish Fry Fridays, in which diners have a choice of a platter of fish, fish n’ chips, or fish tacos. On Sunday, Waterman’s has stuffed flounder or stuffed jumbo shrimp. If you’re feeling lucky and especially brilliant any given Thursday, Waterman’s has team poker trivia from 6-9 p.m. in the bar. Perhaps engulfing hoards of seafood improves brain function…

Ocean City, Maryland Hotels

Imagine a hotel right on the boardwalk that has a gym, spa, rooms with views and hot tubs, an elegant dining room, a classy yet fun bar, and an arcade. If you can compute all these things at once, you will recognize that this hotel must be phenomenal. Indeed, it is; it’s the Grand Hotel & Spa in Ocean City, MD. You have probably driven by the circular and massive building before and ogled over it’s fascinating structure. What’s great about this hotel is that it is aesthetically pleasing and offers great promotions. Right now until February 23rd, visitors can do the “Stay & Play” promotion that includes a two night stay. An oceanfront room is $129, an ocean view room is $119, and a side view is $99. With all the amenities offered through the hotel and the fun to be had in OC’s various restaurants, this package is perfect for those who want to get away.
