(Feb. 8, 2013) The Stephen Decatur wrestling team came up short of a title in the 4A/3A East Regional Duals tournament Wednesday, falling to South River 39-27 in the semifinal round.
The Decatur Seahawks were seeded second in the four-team competition, held at River Hill High School in Clarksville, while the South River Seahawks were ranked third.
Decatur seniors Ryan Kail (285 pounds) and Alex Schiffer (152) and junior Adam Bargar (195) pinned their opponents.
Kaelan Patterson (160), a senior, junior Andrew Borradaile (170) and sophomore Joseph Rodriguez (113) won their matches by decision.
Despite the loss, Decatur Coach Todd Martinek was pleased with the Seahawks’ performance.
“They wrestled very well. I’m real proud of them overcoming lots of adversity this season,” he said.
The top seeded River Hill Hawks battled the No. 4 Bel Air Bobcats in the semifinals and scored a 39-30 victory.
River Hill then met South River in the finals. South River won 34-27 to capture the 4A/3A East Regional title.
