Rehoboth Beach Overview
Rehoboth Beach, Delaware is less than an hour from Berlin, Maryland and less than 30 minutes from most of Ocean City, MD, yet it seems very different. Historically, Rehoboth was the favorite beach resort town of Washingtonians and developed with many homes clustered inland from the beach itself. There are palatial oceanfront houses, small inns, and hundreds of single family vacation rentals. Hotels are clustered downtown. There are not the accommodation options offered by Ocean City, MD, however. If you are going to stay in Ocean City, Maryland and are ready to make a reservation, go to hotels.oceancity.com for the best deal and free coupons when you book. If you want to browse options, go to OceanCity.com/hotels to get the most information and link directly to the hotels in Ocean City’s own sites. Make sure you look for hotels in north Ocean City so you have a shorter trip to Rehoboth.
Downtown Rehoboth offers a wide variety of dining options. There are restaurants that have been honored for traditional fish and chips, Japanese cuisine and sushi, organic and local concoctions, and anything in between. Rehoboth is home to Dogfish Head beer and restaurant. Although not actually brewed on the premises, the beer is fabulous and the 60 minute IPA only one of many options. If you don’t like beer, don’t worry. Flavored vodkas and more are also brewed/distilled by this company and offered for sale in their restaurant on the main drag just a couple of blocks off the ocean. If you don’t like waiting in line, then try the German restaurant next door. You don’t have to wait, the food is good, and the beer the same. Many more casual dining options exist all over town. If you want fine dining, again, Rehoboth offers a vast array of options. From Italian, to seafood, to eclectic American cuisine, Rehoboth serves it all.
Shopping in Rehoboth:
Because Delaware doesn’t have sales tax, Rehoboth offers endless shopping opportunities where you can save some money. Tanger Outlets has seemingly endless shopping centers along Route 1 just west of Rehoboth Beach. If you are looking for great deals from kitchenware to high fashion, Tanger Outlets is a must. You can devote an entire day to back-to-school shopping as most of the people do who live within striking distance. There are also many shops tightly clustered in the multi-block downtown area. If you eschew large chains and massive outlet shopping, then go downtown. You will not be disappointed.
The beach in Rehoboth has been a favorite with Washingtonians for decades. Some complain that the sand and water are not quite as spectacular as the beaches farther to the south, but that doesn’t appear to thwart the hundreds of thousands who flock here each summer.
