Rayne’s Reef in Berlin, MD

Rayne’s Reef in downtown historic Berlin has a great diner atmosphere with a real soda fountain and all the ice cream treats you might want.  This restaurant is located across the street from the more famous Atlantic Hotel and attracts visitors and locals alike.  It was featured in "Runaway Bride," the movie with Richard Gere and Julia Roberts that was filmed in this historic town in 1999.  The current owner has improved the facade as well as the interior.  There is booth seating, ice cream bar seating on the old-fashioned round bar stools that spin — a favorite with the kids — and table seating.   You can expect large portions and typical diner type food.  Thursday is half price burger night which makes your meal very affordable.

The turkey reuben is good and is served with potato chips.  You can upgrade to french fries.  The rootbeer floats are fabulous and just like the ones I remember when I was a kid.  Just like the ones my mother remembers from when she was a kid for that matter.  The milkshakes are hand dipped and yummy.

Rayne’s reef is great place for a quick business lunch, a family ice cream treat outing, or an inexpensive burger night meal for the kids.  You can’t beat the small town feel of fabulous historic Berlin with its farmer’s market, antique shops and boutiques or the proximity to Ocean City.  Stop on your way to or from Ocean City or when you need a break from the hustle and bustle of the beach resort.  Berlin is worth the trip.
