Ravens come here to roost

(May 31, 2013) Thousands of football fans dressed in purple and black participate annually in the Council of Baltimore Ravens Roosts convention and parade in Ocean City.

Formerly known as the Council of Colts Corrals, the Council of Baltimore Ravens Roosts has converged in the resort area since 1968. This year will mark the organization’s 49th celebration in Ocean City and it will include a convention, parade and an assortment of other activities.

In 2012, even more people gathered in the resort as the Baltimore Ravens NFL organization sponsored the inaugural Beach Bash, presented by Miller Lite.

“Last year was a huge success and a fun event for all involved,” Heather Harness, marketing, advertising and game entertainment manager for the Baltimore Ravens said last week.

Added Sue Draper, chairwoman of the Council of Baltimore Ravens Roosts

Convention, “Having the two groups in town at the same time truly paints the town purple. The Ravens continue to be very supportive of our convention as they have dating back to the Baltimore Colts days.”

Harness said several professional players, as well as some coaches, cheerleaders and Poe, the Ravens’ mascot, are scheduled to attend the second annual Beach Bash, which began Thursday and will conclude on Saturday.

Radio station 98 Rock, the broadcasting partner of the Baltimore Ravens, will conduct live broadcasts throughout the weekend.

Although activities, which are free and open to the public, will take place all over Ocean City, Ravens Beach Bash headquarters is the Clarion Resort Fontainebleau Hotel on 101st Street.

Events scheduled this weekend include family fun night at the Jolly Roger Amusement Park, the Ocean City Purple Friday Caravan, bar crawls, a beach bonfire and football tournament.

The Council of Baltimore Ravens Roosts 49th annual parade will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, from 19th to 26th streets along Baltimore Avenue.
