Imagine staying in a hotel that not only is in a central location and has great views, but also has a history of hospitality. You know that Dunes Manor Hotel (and Dunes Manor Motel) offers comfort and style thanks to its family operation, but did you know that Park Place Hotel offers that same family feeling? What’s more, Park Place even has a similar start to Dunes Manor–the hotel began in the Conner family. Below, we’ll hear from Caryl Cardenas, Park Place’s General Manager, on what else makes the hotel so special.
As mentioned above, the hotel has a fantastic history. “My great grandmother bought the Hastings Hotel which was on the lot in 1923 and then built the hotel in 2000” Cardenas remarks. Cardenas’ great grandmother, Willye Ludlum, was a Conner by her first marriage, which kept the Conner family’s hotel hospitality alive. “Our family has been in the hospitality business since the early 1900s in Ocean City,” Cardenas says. Willye Ludlum’s birthplace of Snow Hill even shows that the hospitality comes from a familiar, nearby place. The significance here is that the hotel’s foundation and its current staff are committed to the area, giving you the best experience possible.
Cardenas keeps the hospitable tradition alive at Park Place through her mindset and love of Ocean City. “It’s always good to work at the beach,” Cardenas says, “It’s the best of both worlds.” During the summer, Park Place is home to bustling vacationers, while the off season months bring a slower pace and allow the staff to rest up for the summer again.
Aside from the lovely views and feeling the beach at Ocean City can bring, Cardenas loves the hotel business there. She remarks that meeting new customers and seeing the ones that come back every year is part of what she enjoys at Park Place. “Guests that come back become family,” Cardenas says. Those at Park Place keep the tradition of quality hotel service alive, and for some, like Cardenas who has been there since 2000, the fun and great guests keep coming.
