Ocean City Penguin Swim 2013 – Getting Wet For A Good Cause

In just a few short days the Ocean City beach will be swarming with Penguins.  These are not the same Penguins you will see when visiting the National Zoo, these are one-of-a-kind Penguins found only on Ocean City, Maryland’s white sand beaches on New Year’s Day each year.  People calling themselves Penguins will be taking a plunge into the cold Atlantic Ocean in an effort to raise money for Atlantic General Hospital, a non profit hospital providing services to those in Worcester, Wicomico, Somerset and Sussex Counties on the eastern shore since May of 1993.

Now in it’s 19th year, the Penguin Swim raises thousands of dollars each year.  This year 1000 participants are expected at the event hoping to raise at least $71,500.  This year’s swim is Tuesday, January 1st at 1pm on the beach at 91st Street and whether you are watching from afar or wading in the cool waters the event promises to be lots of fun; just ask those who come back year after year.  Trophies will be given to individuals and teams raising the most money for the event.  There will also be a contest for the “best costume” and recognition of the oldest and youngest penguins.ite sand beaches on New Year’s Day each year.
