OC Air Show 5th Highfliers and Fireworks

If you are in Ocean City this week, you may notice a couple of changes as you drive down Coastal Highway. The speed limit, normally 40 mph through North Ocean City, has been reduced to 30 mph, and Downtown, the speed limit has also been reduced. This is due to the expected, unauthorized H2Oi Pop-Up Rally.  It is reasonable to expect heavier than usual traffic, noise and strict enforcement of vehicle laws during the week and weekend.

If you didn’t “hear”, the Air Show was in town this past weekend for its 5th anniversary. There were a number of highflying performances by the nations best pilots, both military and civilian.  The festivities kicked off on Wednesday, June 6th at 7pm with the Miller 64 Taxi before Take Off Party, which was held at Sunset Grille.  Wednesday through Sunday, there were a number of events for the public to come out and have a good time and meet the performers.  At noon on Saturday everyone’s attention was drawn to the 101st Airborne Scream Eagles flag jump. This amazing performance was one of many to come throughout both Saturday and Sunday. As the jets spiraled the parachuted performer who held the American flag for all to see, people cheered and were excited for what was in store. The jets twisted and turned in unimaginable ways. There were near misses at insane speeds that made your heart drop. It was truly an exhilarating experience for all those involved. The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds headlined the show. Putting on a wonderful performance as they flew threw the air, and shocked the audience with their mind-bending maneuvers. Other performances from this exciting weekend included, the U.S. Navy Seals “Leap Frogs”, the Black Diamond Jet Team, A-10 Warthogs, GEICO Skytypers, Mike Goulian in the Goodyear Extra, C-5 Galaxy Flyover, Rob Holland, Mike Wiskus in the Lucas Oil Pitts, an F-18 Hornet Demo, Goulian and Holland going head to head, a U.S. Coast Guard SAR Demo, and as mentioned earlier the U.S. Army 101st Airborne.  This was the 5th year of the OC Air Show, and was one of the best yet. An amazing finale at the Ocean Downs Casino capped off the event with a joint team parachute jump by the 101st Army Screaming Eagles and the Navy Seals Leap Frogs, as well as an amazing fireworks display. Ocean City is looking forward to next years Air Show which already has plans to include the world famous Blue Angels. The Air Show looks to draw an even bigger crowd next year than they had this year, which was in the tens of thousands.  For more photos, please visit the entire album on our Facebook Page.
