Sunfest is not only Ocean City, Md’s biggest and most popular festival, it also provides one of the best weekends of music of the entire year. Top local and regional acts will be on hand throughout the four-day event, playing free concerts for festival goers, and each night Sunfest is happy to host national recording acts on the Inlet Stage. Headlining acts have become a favorite Sunfest tradition and the entertainment at the 40th anniversary edition of the event will be nothing short of spectacular.
The Righteous Brothers made a name for themselves in the 60s and 70s with their emotive vocals that gave them a distinct sound like no one else of their time, landing them numerous Top 5 hits in the US and UK. This year at Sunfest, you have the chance to see one half of the Righteous Brothers live by the seas as Bill Medley brings his smooth and soulful baritone style to Ocean City. Medley will be the lead act on the first night of Sunfest ( Thursday, September 18), performing classic Righteous Brother tunes such as “You’ve Lost the Lovin’ Feelin”, “Just Once in My Life”, “Ebb Tide”, and “Rock and Roll Heaven”, as well as his solo songs, like the 1987 #1 hit “Time of My Life”, making his performance truly one for the ages.
If the sounds of contemporary country are more to your liking, you’re in luck as Sunfest 2014 hosts not one, but two for the most exciting up and coming acts on Friday, September 19. Eric Paslay began his career as a songwriter, composing hits for Jake Owen, the Eli Young Band, Rascal Flatts and Lady Antebellum, but has recently emerged as sought after performer as well. His song “Friday Night” reached the Top 10 on country charts and this year, on Friday night, September 19, Paslay will bring his party to Sunfest.
Joining Paslay at Sunfest will be country-rockers Parmalee. Best known for the #1 hit, “Carolina”, Parmalee’s sound combines bluegrass, traditional country, southern rock, and blues with lyrics that echo the sentiments of small town America- a style that resulted in Clear Channel naming the group Country Music Artist to Watch in 2012. Now in 2014, Parmalee is well on its way to big things on the country music scene. Catch them live and in person at the Ocean City inlet and you’ll certainly see why.
Few artists are as synonymous with 80s rock and roll as Australian singer/songwriter Rick Springfield. Nominated for numerous awards for songs like, “I Get Excited”, “Don’t Talk To Strangers”, “Affair of the Heart”, and “Love Somebody”, and winning ‘Best Vocal Performance’ for his smash hit “Jessie’s Girl”, Springfield was a mainstay on the rock charts in the mid-80s. Not only has Springfield toured the world and entertained millions with his songs, he also is an accomplished actor who has been a mainstay on General Hospital on multiple occasions. This year Springfield headlines Sunfest Saturday night (September 20), helping celebrate the end of summer with his timeless tunes of love and good times.
All featured Sunfest concerts begin at 8pm. Tickets for Thursday run from $15-$39 and tickets for Friday and Saturday start as low as $25. Events are likely to sell out, so advance purchases through Ticketmaster are suggested.
