This week in OC: May 15-21, 2015

Cruisin’ Ocean City is celebrating its 25th anniversary this weekend, as over 3000 classic cars, Hot Rods, trucks, crusiers, and more roll into town. With over 500 awards up for grabs, celebrity appearances by Tom Wopat (Luke Duke) and Christine Brimberry from Fast N’ Loud, hundreds of vendors, live music, and more at the Inlet and Convention Center parking lots, Cruisin’ Ocean City 2015 is poised to be one of the biggest years in the event’s history.

Whether or not you’re in town for Cruisin, there are plenty of exciting events to keep you busy all week long. Here are some of the other highlights:

-Friday, May 15, marks the return of a favorite event as the 7th annual Pirate Party to benefit the Lower Shore CASA takes place at Sunset Grille. The event, featuring a silent auction, gold bar auction and 50/50 raffle, will raise money for the Berlin-based program, a division of Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services, which recruits and trains volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children. Tickets are $15 and include entrance to the event and food. Animal House will provide live entertainment.

– The Ocean City area craft beer scene is growing so much that even out of town breweries are tying to get in on the action. This Friday, May 15, Sweetwater Brewing from Atlanta is teaming up with the Assateague Coastal Trust to present the 2nd annual Toast for the Coast event at the West OC Bottle Shop. The event starts at 6pm and includes free samples of locally crafted beer, wine, and spirits. along with snacks provided by Barn 34 and OC Wasabi. Admission to the event is free and will benefit ACT’s fundraising efforts.

– In honor of Bob Dylan’s 74th birthday, local artists will gather at Fager’s Island on Wednesday, May 20, for a night of tribute to the musical icon. Local artists Nate Clendenen of Eastern Electric and Saltwater Stringband (Ocean City), Nancy Micciulla Curry of Ginger (Rehoboth Beach, Del.), Sean Loomis of Drymill Road (Winchester, Va.), Darin Engh of Opposite Directions and Saltwater Stringband (Ocean City) and Chris Demone of Test Kitchen (Salisbury) will all be on hand to celebrate the life and legend of Dylan.
