With just over a week left in August and some schools already back in session, the summer season is slowly winding down here in Ocean City, Md. If your family is lucky enough to be taking a late August trip to the beach, you’re in for great weather, plenty of live music and favorite events, and even the chance to stay for discounted rates if you time it correctly.
Here are the highlights:
– This week is capped off by two events that have grown in popularity each year since their inception. OC Sandfest kicks off Monday and brings some of the world’s best sand sculptors to Ocean City. Free to attend. OC Sandfest is a spectacle you do not want to miss, so head down to the beach at N. Division St. any day next week to see works of art that will blow your mind.
– Also next week is the 6th Annual Jeep Week, which starts Thursday and lasts all weekend. With events at the Convention Center and in ‘America’s Coolest Small Town,’ Berlin, Jeep Week is comprised of a series of events and competitions, including Beach Crawls and Jeep Jams. – Ocean City’s free weekly events are winding down along with the summer season, so make sure to take advantage of them while you still can. This week, create your own sundaes at Northside Park from 7-9pm with Sundaes in the Park; check out a spectacular laser lights show along the Boardwalk with OC Beach Lights shows at 9:30, 10, 10:30pm; enjoy beach fireworks on Monday and Tuesday on the beach at N. Division St; listen to the sweet sounds of Bluesman Tom Larsen at Wednesday’s Concert on the Beach on the Caroline Street Stage; and rock out with Sunset Park Party Nights on Thursday from 7-9pm. – Finally, each August, Ocean City hosts the annual Hotel Week, which gives our guests the chance score big savings on one last summer trip to the beach. Running from August 30-September 10, many of the town’s top hotels are offing accommodation packages for 15, 20, or even 25% off.
