(May 15, 2015) Three people were killed in a single-car crash near Girdletree Monday evening, when the car in which they were traveling went off the road, the Maryland State Police at the Berlin Barrack reported.
According to the report, Nicole Earnest, 25, was driving north and approaching Onley Road a little before 8:30 p.m. in Worcester County when preliminary evidence at the scene indicated she lost control of her car at curve in the road.
Her vehicle left the road and traveled through grass and mud before striking three trees. One of the trees was uprooted and cut in half, with part of the severed tree landing on top of the car, police said.
Amanda Phillips, 22, was in the front seat and Sean Mobley, 45, was riding in the back, all three were from Chincoteague, Va. and pronounced dead at the scene.
The road was closed and the State Highway Administration along with fire department personnel set up a detour.
The Maryland State Police Crash Team was still investigating as of midweek to determine more precisely what happened.
