This area, also known as Ocean City’s Commercial Fishing Harbor, is rich with fishing history. The ideal location will be packed with exhibitors, educational displays, stages, and several docked boats on the canal. Demonstrations to watch will include knot-tying, fish cleaning, and survival suit preparations. Interested in seeing some oceanic wildlife? Check out the “touch tank” to see and touch local fish, shell fish, and other creatures that live in the Ocean City waters.
The event focuses on water-related traditions such as: Commercial fishing, sport fishing, marine aquaculture, safety at sea, and local seafood processing. Highlights from the event will include: Seafood cooking demonstrations, fish cleaning techniques, several contests, maritime storytelling, children’s games, and live entertainment. Local favorite, Opposite Direction, is scheduled to play on the harbor from 12 noon to 4 p.m.
Nearby restaurants like The Shark on the Harbor, Sunset Grille, and Harborside will have drink and dinner specials during the day of Harbor Day at the Docks. The Shark on the Harbor is known for their use of the Commercial Fishing Harbor and local produce. Talk to the staff at the restaurant to discover why they choose to use local fish and home-grown goods.
The event planners want to encourage people to educate themselves about Ocean City’s coastal heritage. Hopes to stimulate interest in Maryland’s maritime culture will give guest a look inside of Ocean City’s coastal and local businesses, tackle shops, marinas, hotels, restaurants, marine trade, docks, commercial fishermen, and other waterfront related services from the area.
