View Full Version : Early spring--when does everything open?

We have really enjoyed coming to Ocean City in early October for a long weekend, when there's cooler weather and fewer people. This year we were thinking of maybe coming in early spring instead. When do the boardwalk and many of the shops and restaurants officially open? Doe they open well before the peak season, similarly to when they don't close until later October? What would be a good time to come when we can still do things but it isn't very crowded yet?

I'm not real sure, I'd suspect a good number of shops may reopen around Easter weekend but give it time, somebody with more knowledge than I have will reply. We've been there early May before and a fair amount of places were open on the Boardwalk but a lot depends on weather. Ocean City has SpringFest sometime in May so many places will definately be open by then. The rides most likely will not reopen until at least Memorial Day weekend, not much earlier.

If I had a recommendation, I'd say come down in September and most everything is opened and the weather is perfect. For your own sanity, try and avoid the VW crazy weekend or you'll regret it big time. Tons of rude colleage age animals drivng very dangerously.

The majority of shops on the boards open by Springfest in May. But rides and such don't open till later. You won't find the water sports open yet either until Memorial Day. But in May , you'll find some mini golf courses open, ad there's an event nearly every weekend then.
Some places are open in April, but mostly just on weekends. Check out events at www.ococean.com/events

Things open slowly over time. Many places will reopen the week before Easter and will be open on weeknds into May. Sprngfest in mid May marks the start of the season, and alomost everything is open for Cruisin' the weeknd before Memorial Day. As of Memorial Day weekend everything is open.

As far as the shops on the boardwalk, most have no regular schedule. This weekend over half of them at the south end were open, because the weather was nice and there were many people around. Many are open year round on weekends when the weather is decent. The slowest time is early January until mid February when business picks up for President's Day and Valentines Day.

We will be going down the week of Easter. It's my daughter's spring break and wanted to try it out. There are a lot of things to do you just have to look a little harder. It's so easy to go up and down Costal Hwy. that time of year.

As the others have stated, there's no one date when everything actually opens up. Weather plays a role in this equation as well ...

We've been visiting during Easter for years, and while the town sorta looks at Easter as the "beginning" of the season, and business owners do their very best, to be open for this weekend, you have to keep in mind that the Easter date changes every, and in 2015 the Holiday falls in the beginning of April, so that means there's a chance that the weather could be less than ideal. If the weather is not cooperating, less places will open... However if it warms up faster than usual, look for doors to be open ahead of schedule - at least on the weekends.

We've been down in March for St. Patrick's Day and some restaurants are opening for weekends only. Some boardwalk shops open if weather is good but it's hit/miss. Rides not open yet. Have been down for early Easter with boardwalk shops, Trimpers kiddie rides and more restaurants open weekends only (mainly Friday and Saturday). By late May most things are open, but still some only for weekends (lots still closed Mon-Weds) until Memorial Day weekend.

Early May for Springfest is a good time. Beware the 3rd weekend in May when the OC Crusin' car show is in town - it's very, very loud and crowded.

It's mostly weekends only from St. Patties until Springfest. A lot of North OC opens up full time around Easter though. Us residents get restless around this time. During May most things are open 7 days, with a few exceptions south of like 6th street.
