As of January 4th, The Casino at Ocean Downs will be open. Gov. Martin O’Malley and several state and local dignitaries will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on opening day. The $45 million casino/gaming facility is open to the public starting the first Tuesday of the new year.
The Casino at Ocean Downs features more than 700 video lottery terminals, also known as slot machines. The nearly 34,000 square foot casino will be filled with games, food options, and beverages.
“The Location Commission is thrilled with the announced opening of the slots facility at Ocean Downs,” said Donald D. Fry, chairman of the Maryland Video Lottery Facility Location Commission.
The casino is bound to become one of the best entertainment facilities and will be a large asset to the Eastern Shore and Maryland.
Over 200 new employees have been hired and trained well before opening day. Most employees live in the Ocean City area.
The casino had planned to open months ago but some challenges arose in the construction process. Since then, the construction staff and employees have worked hard and quickly to ensure a quality opening in a relatively quick period.
The Casino at Ocean Downs offers an entertainment facility with 40 days of live seasonal harness racing. This season will mark the 62nd consecutive year of night racing for large audiences in the Ocean City area.
