Riding a motorcycle isn’t just a hobby, it’s a way of life for many. Each September, as the sun sets on another summer of excitement, Ocean City, Maryland pays tribute to those who believe 2 wheels are greater than 4 through the annual celebration known as OC Bikefest. Bikefest coincides simultaneously with the annual Delmarva Bike Week, which brings upwards of 150,000 bikers to the lower Eastern Shore, and is designed to bring many of those bikers to the beach for a final summer blowout.
Traditionally, OC Bikefest is known for bringing national recording acts, celebrities, stunt shows, custom bikes, and great food to the Inlet and Convention Center parking lots. The 2013 edition on Bikefest will be no different, and will also feature a poker run hosted by the Hogs and Heroes Foundation– a community of motorcycle riders that supports public safety workers, military personnel, and Wounded Warriors through fundraising events. This year’s poker run is a weekend long event that will end with one lucky participant taking home $1500.
Bikefest may be a celebration of motorcycles, but few things are as synonymous with biker culture as the sweet sounds of classic rock music. This year’s Bikefest entertainment features three of the genre’s heavyweights headlining the Inlet stage. You can rock out with Jackyl (featuring Jesse James Dupree from truTV’s Full Throttle Saloon) on Thursday September 12, War on Friday September 13, and Three Dog Night on Saturday the 14th. All headlining acts begin at 5:30 with opening concerts prior to them, including the legendary Foghat on Friday afternoon. See below for the full entertainment schedule and admission rates.
When you’re not cruising your chopper up and down Coastal Highway, one of the biggest challenges you’re likely to face at Bikefest is that of parking. This year, event officials have taken extra steps to ensure you spend less time searching for spots and more time enjoying the festivities. Your Bikefest wristband/ticket gets you free access to Ocean City Beach Buses in town, as well as to the West OC Park n Ride across the Route 50 Bridge, all weekend long to get you to and from the Inlet and Convention Center without hassle and give you the best Ocean City experience possible.
From the Blessing of the Bikes through the last awe-inspiring stunt show, OC Bikefest offers visitors plenty to rev their engines at. So saddle up your Harley, chopper, or sport bike and cruise down to the inlet and Convention Center for a wild September weekend you won’t soon forget.
