Arthur SachsOCEAN PINES — Retired Col. Arthur “Art” Sachs, 81, of Ocean Pines died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at his home. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., Mr. Sachs earned a bachelor’s degree from NYC and a master’s from Richmond University. He also studied Mandarin Chinese at the Presidio of Monterrey.
Mr. Sachs served with the 1st Infantry Division in the occupation of Germany. He also served in Vietnam and was awarded a Bronze Star. He was a member of the National Society of Pershing Riffles.
Mr. Sachs moved to Northern Virginia in 1970. When he retired from the Department of Justice, he and his wife, Billie Jo, moved to Ocean Pines. There, he was a member of the Ocean Pines Anglers Club and he served on the Ocean Pines Association Board of Directors. He was active with Make A Wish foundations and his Temple Bat Yam
He enjoyed his retirement by staying active in the community, watching the Redskins, fishing with his friends and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Billie Jo Sachs; daughters, Deborah L. Kelley and Sharon L. Sachs; and grandson, Ryan Cook, all from Northern Virginia area.
Mr. Sachs will be truly missed by his friends and family. He was a man of integrity with a love for life and an easy laugh. Burial and services to follow at Arlington Cemetery.
